Would love to see the 006 back in production again! Appears to me more elegant than the 615, just my opinion.

 

The 006 was the BEST head shape Byron ever made. The 615 was a big down grade in the looks department.

I’m a DH89 guy (who has two), but for the greater good sign me up for this. The world is a better place with independents like Byron doing what he does.

I live close to Byron's shop. I'm trying to make some time over the next couple of weeks to get over to his shop to order a another DH89. I'll ask him if this is a possibility and what kind of volume we would have to promise.

Anybody have a really detailed pic of a standard face, no "extra face mill". Basically, just want to see what a plain face looks like. Keep in mind, I'm not taking about a perfectly flat or polished one, I'm interested in what the face looks like fresh off the CNC. Thanks

Here is his standard Tuna#4 face. Not too much, not too little. 1st is a DH-89 and the second is a 615.

Correct.

 

You get whatever stock mill pattern comes on the head you ordered.

 

What that pattern is changes from time to time. Seems likes every couple of years he has something different.

Last question, he seemed fairly adamant that face and sole reduction is necessary to achieve anything close to 330g. Is it safe to say the milling will be gone and left smooth if this is indeed the process?

I'd ask him personally by email but would rather the info get out to the masses.

If he has to take material,off the face, the tuna milling will be gone, but you still have the option of hand milling. Search for “fly cut” or “deep” milling.

Cool, that's kinda what I thought. I requested a flat face, really like the feedback and click. I'm trying to do a cheap build and get a really functional putter this go around.

 

The longneck in my avatar has a really tight fly mill, and one I owned previous to it had a deep cut face. I was just confused as to what happens when hand milling is left out of the equation. The other curiosity of mine was about his method for reducing a face, if not by milling. Is it just ground down, thus kinda making it an imperfect flat surface? Heck, maybe it'll be milled down in the end anyway.

Yeah nothing special about this head so I'd imagine the top line thickness is the same any any other 615.

 

The finish was glass blast when I ordered it. Byron's glass blast finish is a bit aggressive, grey looking for me. I wanted a bit more of a matte silver look. I took a dremel with some stainless steel brushes and gave the head a light polish. I love the look. Gives the head more of a smooth, silver look without being polished and shiny.

I have no idea what the # number of putters ordered would need to be for Byron to make up a run of 006 putters, BUT back in 2010/2011 when we wanted a heavier DH89, and Byron did a preorder for the DH11 it was a run of 10 I believe. But that was at $500 a piece I believe. The 006 when I ordered mine "I think" was around $300-350ish range. So I'd guess going off that I'd imagine a run of at least 15 if the price equaled roughly the amount of 10, DH11 (well in the ball park at least).

 

Again this is just an absolute guess, and I'm just going off the DH11 1st run info that I remember and that may even be wrong....

I would commit murder to get another 006. The 615 doesn't have the same classic lines.

 

Please Byron! Bring back the 006.

I miss the old milling pattern back in the day. I'm totally blanking on the name of the swirl pattern on the face of the round neck putter in the pic...? You did a good job capturing it in the pic, but I find no pic really shows off how great it looks in person.

 

Curious to why Byron ditch that milling pattern? I'm guessing it maybe was to much work to do for a bunch putters, or maybe traditional milling gave a softer feel maybe?

Put me in for an 006.... I am in Long Beach and will make my way over to his shop one of these days. I have a had a bunch of 89s and a 615... The 006 looks like the perfect blend and shape of what I'd be looking for in another blade... Some nice ones above!

Great looking putters there! The 006 looks very close to the Anser 2, the 615 looks like the bumpers are extra blocky and the heel is longer and more pointed? I can’t figure out what it is but the 006 just looks great! But would also love a DH89 with a sight dot so who knows...

What finish is that? It looks really great with the fly mill. It's kind of hard to tell from the pics -- is the finish applied over the milling?
