I'm thinking of an order and just had Steve do a quote for me. DH 89, welded short round pipe, brushed stainless, site line and some cool stamping.

I love iridescent red on brushed stainless, tour satin or glass blast. I was thinking this stamping in the cavity, a face tour dot and something cool on the sole (don't want to give it all away until she's finished).

Don't want it to be too busy (have made that mistake before) but do you think I need the bumpers stamped? Nowhere on the putter will it say 'DH89' or SSS but Ilke the idea of clean bumpers for a change.

Thoughts anyone?

Maybe leave them blank to show off the lines and curves on the bumpers....? Also the Tai treatment I'd recommend too (the extra softening of the edges)

Yeah I think leaving the bumpers clean would be a nice touch. That simple cavity stamp, tour dot & stamping on the face and a sole stamp will be enough.

What I love about a Byron order is you essentially get all the features of a 009 without the price tag. That said, this order (incl shipping to Oz) will still be $800. Tai treatment is now an additional $150.

As much as I like the aesthetics and not to skimp but another $150 that only my brothers here will appreciate might be stretching me a bit far.

To stay on topic, this was one of my orders from 2013. I eventually sold it as I have realized over time that I'm just not suited to a plumber's neck.

I've posted up pics before but of course they've vanished with the change in policy on photobucket.

I was really happy with this tour satin DH89 and didn't drop too much moving her on. Byron did a great job but was thinking a little less stamping next order, as per comments above.

Edit: And before anyone asks that is tight tuna hand milling.

Well with $150 more for the Tai treatment now and add in a few Tour dots plus the cost for a finish and you’re fast approaching what 009 prices were before the Spieth bump. Yes once upon a time you could order a custom stamped up 009 for 1900 and plain janes sold for much less than that. I remember paying 1200 on eBay for one :) Forget college tuition or inflation scottsdale shaped Anser putters have gone up in price much faster than those things.

I understand your position and maybe this is for another thread but Scotty 009's really are at the extreme end of pricing. You can't even get a new Tour Rat for $1900 ($3K+ out of the Gallery now), and second hand 009's start at $3000 and climb pretty quickly.

More on topic, the Byron DH89 I'm proposing would be $725 in brushed stainless with the welded short round pipe neck ($75 to ship to Oz). Add Tai treatment and say deep water finish is another $250 together. So we're around the $1K mark for a top shelf custom putter made exactly as you want. The same 009 order would be $4 - $4.5K and you're not guaranteed to get all the stamping you want!

I agree the Byron is still better priced than an 009 it just isn't as good a value as it used to be.

This one is in progress... It already has it's own thread, so if you want more details click on the link below. I thought I'd toss a couple photos up here, as well.

Even with the tour dot/dots the Byron Morgan is just about 1K and way less than a Spieth which is not custom, just OTR.

Byron is working on an 89 for me right now and even with full Tai treatment, welded neck ( gonna be a short plumbers neck), and a tour dot my total was only $900.

I could never find a “stock” 009 for $1900 much less $900!!

While I have to admit spending way too much money on a couple Cameron putters, I am in total agreement that Byron's sticks deliver way more bang for the buck. Below is another shot of my "Speith-ish" DH89 and it is Byron's stock 89 (no Tai treatment here). I'll try to get an updated photo in here soon with all of my Byron Morgan Flatsticks together.

I received a package yesterday and want to thank zman and Byron for this beautiful putter. This one is for making putts so minimal stamping just enough to personalize. The Tout Blast is the easiest for me to aim. It is a 612, 365 gram, sound slot with the long neck. :)

Congrats maverick that’s a beautiful putter. Did you have it softened at all? Or custom grinding done?

It had the Tai treatment. I believe you would call this a straight long neck and it has the Tuna #4 milled face same as my DH-89. So far I am putting great with this one, it sets up so nice and square.
