Turning 50 next month and I have played almost 475 different courses in my lifetime

I did this same post years ago, cool to see it again as my list has changed a whisker

Royal Melbourne Composite

The Old Course

Cabot Cliffs

Bethpage Black

Muirfield Village

A big part of it for me was the course but also the experience and the atmosphere. The town of St. Andrew's is incredible if you are a true golfer

It was hard for me to leave off Carnoustie, Kingsbarns, TPC Sawgrass, and a medley of awesome and very MEMORABLE golf courses in North America

California - Torrey Pines South

Florida - Camp Creek, Shark's Tooth, PGA National

South Carolina - True Blue

Hawaii - Mauna Kea

Alabama - Kiva Dunes

Canada - St. Georges, The National, Kananaskis, Royal Montreal, Shaughnessy

The worst was getting winded out of Muirfield GC when my pals and I were in Scotland. Had a scotch with the starter and we left on his advice

1 Pine Valley

2Castle Pines also GreatCourses Bear Club,Harbor Town , Jupiter Hills,Medinah #3, Pine Tree CHARLEY PENNA

3 Shoreacres

4 Seminole

5 Chicago Golf Club

Buddy! I'm free the rest of my life for Pine Valley and Seimnole....)

I think there is another thread somewhere about this and I'll copy that:

The highest rated courses I have played are:

1. Pebble Beach-history, views, 6 easy holes to stroke your ego!

2. Winged Foot West - old money and a beast, need to bring your air game to hit the greens

3. Chicago Golf Club (birdied opening par 5 into the wind!) :D

4. The Country Club at Brookline-very laid back and maybe my best caddie ever there

5. Pacific Dunes-love this location and views of the ocean, 4 club wind

My favorite courses to play were:

1. Carnoustie - played with 2 guys from the US I didn't know who said they were sub 5 handicaps......... and both were over 100!

2. Baltursol - first class experience all the way, love the clubhouse

3. PGA West Stadium - just plain hard

4. Pasatiempo - love the layout, quirky but fair

5. Butler National - no women around!

6. Turnberry Ailsa - history here big time and wonderful layout IMO, recreated Tom Watson's approach and chip

7. Whistling Straits - great views, bunkers everywhere, wind, great times

8. Bel Air CC - The aura of the membership is a little intimidating; as when I was there met John Williams the composer just hanging out in the bar, Lute Olson former basketball coach playing just ahead of us, etc.....Course is in great shape, but very quirky running up and down through elevation changes, even needing elevators believe it or not.

I tend to follow the course rankings each year. I have been fortunate enough to play a handful of them, but have been surprised that my experience and opinions haven't always matched up with their rankings. There is a lot of subjectivity here, so this should be fun for discussion purposes.

So for ease of discussion, list the top 5 courses you have played and list your most overrated course you have played.

Here are my top 5:

Pine Valley

Merion East

Whistling Straits

Doral

Blackwolf Run

I would say that Merion (based on it's high ranking) was the most disappoing of the five. Get my vote for most overrated.

Buddies and I are planning a trip to Kohler in late September. Seeing this on this pumps me up.
