It wasn't epoxied properly to begin with I think. The ferrule separated a hair and I ignored that, but clearly should not have.

I told my wife what happened and she said something along the lines of "that's what you get for buying random clubs off the internet, besides, don't you have another 3 sets of irons somewhere?" Damn. She knows.

Cobra Bio Cell 2-3 hybrid with Motore Speeder TS 9.8 S flex, tipped 1". Will probably look to play it in the 17.5-18.5 settings.

Interesting. I've just had an original amp 2 hybrid 17º shipped. It's having a graffaloy pro launch red x fitted and set to open. The quest to not over draw or hook a hybrid may be over :D Fingers crossed anyway

I've used one of the original amp cells for a couple years now set to 18* as a tee club, nice stick I think you'll like it.

I passed up all the great Black Friday/Cyber Monday deals, including 25% off a Piretti putter, so no, nothing until after Christmas, haha.

However, I'm still open to a set of irons, maybe in January/February. While I have been very vocal about how good I think the J40 DPC are, and how much I like them, there's still something missing there for me. I'm contemplating whether to get them rebuilt (the previous owner did a shoddy job, hence the 5-iron head flying off) or pick up some combo of the 2014 TM CB/MC/MB or even with some RSi longer irons thrown in. Will wait to see how the RSi TPs look too. The new Bridgestone offerings are nice, but I'm still a "ho on a budget" so prices won't come down for a while on those.

Or I will play with these X-Protos until I die, because I just haven't found anything better.

Yeah, I think Cobra has always been somewhat underrated or unfairly criticized for various reasons, but at the end of the day, they still make a good club. Even the older Bafflers are still nice hybrids. I've hit the Bio Cell a few times now and really like the head. Haven't had a chance to hit this one, but I'm optimistic given the head and shaft combo.

Re-shaft the DPC's! Once I fitted the proper shafts in mine they came alive. I think a set of NS Pro Modus 3 would be a tasty setup for you. I've seen your vids and bag for some time now.

Thanks, I appreciate it. Keeping the DPC is definitely still a consideration. The Modus3 have been on the list, along with the Aldila RIP Tours. I still love my DG but if I'm going to try something different those would be it.

My 3W shootout is below. I was meaning to post a thread, but never got around to it.

 

From left TEE XCG3 with Accra Tour Z M5-85, TEE CB5 with Rombax P95, and Callaway DET with Fubuki AX f85. All 15*.

 

That is one All Star 3 wood lineup!! Beautiful! I know that's a few pages ago, via the link on post 543, but I couldn't resist!!

PM, that CB5 is just lovely. Currently, I have a G25 4 wood, but I need to try a CB series when I get a chance.

I lent my XCG6 to a friend, but that thing is just a miniature driver off the tee and WAY better than the Taylormade mini (non offense TM). I tried the TEE driver, but they didn't have the same magic. You see the tour guys with mixed bags like Sneds and Kuch with TEE 3 woods. They must be good if they choose to play them.

I'm in need of a bit of a WITB overhaul, so I just had them lock up my thread and let it sink. New irons are my #1 priority. There are a multitude of wonderful options out there now and even left over from last year.

Thanks. Unfortunately, the XCG3 was reverted to stock and given to my buddy. Great forgiving and straight hitting head, but I needed a 13* head in that one.

Thanks, the CB5 is a little higher spin that I wanted/expected but it's still a really nice FW. Looks and feels great, and it's a really consistent club. I can live with the fact that it isn't the longest out there.

I've always wanted a TEE driver, but like you said, they just don't perform the same. Something about them doesn't feel "right". Will still have to look into the XCG7 and E8 lines though. I tried the CB3 and CB4 drivers and they were pretty crappy to be honest.

Thanks, Ed. Sometimes a little TOO MUCH thinking goes into this, and I need to just go play more. Contrary to what my feedback score suggests, I'm actually pretty picky, which is why I try everything from 5 year old releases to newer releases to find something that I like. I'm one of those people who are glad that product cycles are short and resale values are low...
