The tee box is up on top of the cliff by the apartment building. The shot is a nail-biting 180yd SAND\Pitching wedge, and you are praying that an awesome shot won't spin back into the lake.

Yeah, great hole. Could be a 3 club difference depending where they decide to place the pin. I also like the 7th hole at Wild Turkey, another great quarry hole. Sorry, no pics.

My personal favourite has to be the 5th at Woodhall Spa (Hotchkin).
Accuracy off the tee is a must, or you will need the bunker skills of Seve to get back at the pin.

The 8th and 12th aren't bad either. I birdied them all in one round once. And only once.

I got #3 at Spyglass

DSCN0568.jpg

and #12

DSCN0571.jpg

I drove by 15 and 16 at Cypress, but me no get to play

I was lucky enough to play Spyglass this year and those are two great par 3's, visually they are gorgeous and they are both difficult without being overly long. I love downhill par 3's, I HATE uphill par 3's I have never seen one I liked. Played Pebble as well and have to say the #'s 5,7 and 17 are hard to beat!

I still think Cypress would be the holy grail of golf, along with Augusta of course.

Another favorite of mine is Pacific Dunes #14
Looks easy on the card and with one play of the course if you hit the green you will think its an easy hole. Play the hole 10+ times though in multiple winds and you really see why its such a great hole.

#7 at Pebble Beach is probably the toughest from a visual intimidation aspect.

#17 at Apple Tree is kinda fun.. Not overly difficult because the green is huge but it is fun, in a gimmicky pro wrestling sort of way.

Not my picture, but it gives the general idea. The drop from tee to green is a bit more than this picture shows.

While the Bandon resort has a great number of awesome par 3s, I think my favorite has to be a new one at Old MacDonald.

While visually it may not look impressive. The green is the biggest green imaginable. 75+ yards long and 40 yards wide and undulations everywhere.

Good call on Woodhall Spa.

This is another wonderful short heathland par 3, again a short flick with an 8 or 9 iron at 140 yards or so. Liphook's 3rd:

That is a fantastic hole (as are all the par 3's at Pacific). It's hard to believe that a 135 yard hole can be intimidating, but this one is to me. It's not very often you stand on the tee of a par 3 and just hope that you will be able to see the pin on your second shot.

Difficult to pick the best out of some that I've played but the 13th at Coyote Moon in Truckee, California comes to mind. Absolutely jaw dropping views. 227 yds, 200+ foot drop to what looks like a sliver of a green from the tee. The whole course is cut through the mountains. Visually stunning- a lot of fun to play...
Or the notoriously tricky uphill 14th at Wentworth...sorry no pic.
It is a tricky one. Usually a 4 iron or so up the hill and then you struggle to hold it on the top tier and usually end up with a stinker of a short chip off a downhill lie from the thick stuff over the back.

I've had much greater success on the 2nd in my time and so I, predictably enough, pick that one as the West Course's best short hole. Lovely, picturesque setting and you can take dead aim with a 7 or 8 iron.

Biarritz holes are a ton of fun especially on a firm surface like Bandon. Old Macdonald is a great addition to the resort.

Here is a pic of the first Biarritz that I played at Shoreacres in Chicago. This pic is from behind and to the side of the green. The green is 85y long with a 3 foot swale right in the middle. I have hit 3 wood then 9 iron in consecutive rounds on this hole which to me is alot of fun.

I played this hole in a 50 mile an hour cross wind...aimed about 40 yards right of the green and hit a knock down....and STILL ended up down in the scrub about 30 yards left of the green.

Pics are on my external HD (which is at school) so I found these on the net. A lot of great par 3's mentioned thus far, however not on the list:

Royal Troon #8: The Postage Stamp. I hit the stick and left it 1 inch from the cup- would have been an ace to remember. http://www.standrews-golftours.com/images/...Stamp%29700.jpg

Loch Lomond #5: Great views, damn tough to hold this green. Hit the stick on this one too.
http://www.golfclubatlas.com/wp-content/up...lochlomond5.jpg

Loch Lomond #17: Can't find a great picture, but it's over marsh all the way 190 to the green.
http://www.golfclubatlas.com/wp-content/up...ochlomond17.jpg

Prestwick #5: Himalayas. You have to aim over the dot corresponding to the color of the tee box. The caddie told me people often play a trick on the group behind them by placing the ball in the hole.
http://www.ontgolf.ca/scotland/2008/06/gal...hole-himalayas/

Mauna Kea #3: A monster- around 250 all carry!
http://www.kohalacoastweb.com/Mauna-Kea-Golf5-450.jpg

Punta Mita #3B: Need an amphibious golf cart during high tide and sometimes it's not accessible at all.

It may not be anywhere near the best, but at 145 yards, this little dude in Charleston, SC at Patriot's Point Links is certainly one of the trickiest holes I've ever played. I've hit anywhere from sand wedge to 4 Iron, and the 4 Iron was just a little short on the fringe!!

patriots_point_banner_1.jpg

As for the best par 3 I've ever played? There's a few. But it's a tie between the 7th at the Palmetto Club, the 17th at Ocean Forest GC, and the 4th at National Golf Links.

NGLA #4. Gorgeous view, but you've still got to play a diabolical classic 'Redan' design. Elevated green, with the surface sloping severely from front to back.

00000572.jpg

Palmetto #7. Without a doubt, the smallest target to play to from 178 yards, ever. Gorgeous golf hole. Great golf course.

7805.JPG

Ocean Forest Golf Club. 17th. 215 from the back tees. Almost always into you and left to right. Really mean green complex, too.
