Sweet collection you are building. I found my first late last year and now trying to find a few more. Just a great piece of history that brings you back to the way the game should be played.

I've played two rounds with my new MacKenzie Original Walker. The first round was really dewy and I wanted to see how it did. To my delight, no problem. Second round was the bluebird spring day in the low 60s... a perfect day for a bag of this type. I must say, I love this thing. It is so soft and comfortable, I feel like hugging it when I pick it up. I got a matching valuables pouch as well. Super high quality, and a real conversation kicker. It's yet another piece of golf equipment that will be with me to my dying day.

That's really nice - what trim colour is that ? Tan ? Mahogany ?

Had my first round with the new Ballistic today - it's a fantastic bag, well balanced, easy to use with 14 clubs, no problems with morning dew (and even a bit of heavy frost in places), no problems with keeping the towel dry ... etc etc

You feel like a better golfer toting one of these round the course - I shot 10 under my handicap this morning as well. It's all the bag I tell you ... they have magical powers ... lol.

Mine is the black 2-pocket ballistic nylon with tan trim, and a metal MacKenzie plate. It's a combination that looks great - two pockets is ample room for everything you need - I only used one of them this morning!

These are undeniably expensive but they are pure class and if you can afford one then get one. They're just brilliant. In fact, I think the only carry bag that might be better would be the leather version :)

Mine just came in last week!

I'm yet to use it on the course as I played twice and it was cold and raining so I rode and just used my old Titleist. Excited to get this thing in the course

Exactly, ballistic with chocolate trim. Put my initials on the ball pocket. I just got a 1 pocket. I figured I would only use it when I carry. I'm about 50/50 on carry v. walking. Ill just keep balls and tees in both and flip the clubs between the bags. I leave my sticks in my house as I can only play on weekends due to my job.

I love the leather Mackenzie's but I'm not at a stage in life where I have the disposable income to drop $800+ on a golf bag... Got a wedding and honeymoon in the next 6 weeks to pay for first haha

I've used mine twice in the last week and I didn't even use the second pocket.

I hear what youre saying about the leather one, though I think once you've seen how nice these bags are, you sort of want 5 of them ... a couple of leather, a couple ballistic and one for sunday best ... and then it becomes "how can I afford it" rather than "I can't afford it" - LOL

I'm hankering for a leather one made up in red/white/blue to mimic the Hogan "Caddyshack" bag - that would be ace for carrying around a nice set of Hogan blades I reckon.

Congratulations on getting married anyway! Trust there is a nice links at the honeymoon destination ;o)

haha I wish man... I thought about trying to find a destination where we can play golf too but we wanted to go somewhere new.. somewhere no one in my family has been... settled on the Greek Islands. I think I can survive without golf for 2 weeks if I'm in the greek islands haha.

I have had a couple of the original walkers and the only issue I have is the strap cutting into my shoulder during a round. Anyone know if the newer ones are any wider?
I can't say I've noticed that as a problem, but I'd fix it with one of these.

Might get one anyway as I think they're pretty cool!

I suppose that I may be missing something here, but I really don't understand why anyone, given the improvements in carry bags in the last 30 years, would want to shoulder one of these heavy, poorly designed, relics of 1940's amd 50's golf, and walk 18 holes. I n that era I did, because that was the only kind of carry bags around. Thankfully, I'm 73, still walking and playing to a single number hdcp., and doing it in reasonable comfort, thanks to the improvements
Carl,

Here's what you are missing, a MacKenzie bag is not remotely heavy or poorly-designed. My first Walker arrived today, and when I picked up the box off my front porch, I honestly thought it was empty. The bag weighs virtually nothing, and unlike all the current stand bags, it actually has a padded strap. It's like carrying air. I have a slightly older Ping Hoofer and a 2-year-old women's Ogio here for comparison, and it's far lighter than either. The strap on the MacKenzie is superior to the Ogio, and equal to the Ping... and current Pings have worse straps.

To answer the questions about the water bottle sleeve a few pages back; if you order from The Walking Golfer, the sleeve is added by default. If you order from MacKenzie directly, as I did, they will add the sleeve "if you insist" ;) I get the impression MacKenzie feels the sleeve takes away from the pure vintage feel, and they'd rather you skipped that option.

Can't wait to play tomorrow. Waking in just a few hours to get out early bird.

I assume the leather bags are more heavy, but the Ballistic walker is significantly lighter than my lightweight Titlist stand bag. The straps on my Titleist are fairly crappy too. The backpack strap is really the biggest benefit of the current carry bags, but, the nostalgia of the Mackenzie is second to none... Coming from my 25 year old self, I feel like Im becoming golf's version of a hipster

I was under the impression that a full leather Walker weighed 4.5 lbs, which is as much as most stand bags these days.

Might have to ask for one of the Ballistic Nylon Sherpa bags for my birthday this year. Unfortunately my birthday is not until October. Blast.

I just weighed by ballistic/leather Walker, empty and it's 2.07 pounds. The rain hood is a further .39 pounds. My Walker has the optional bottle pocket, and leather trim, so a full ballistic is probably under two pounds. I calibrated the scale by weighing a half-dozen balls, which were all 1.60 or 1.59 ounces. I also weighed my empty (and extremely well-worn) Ping Hoofer Extreme at 4.78 pounds.

In other words, my bag weighs a bit more than 20 golf balls.

If anybody is interested in owning a MacKenzie bag but is gun-shy about the price tag, you can win a MacKenzie Sunday Walker bag as part of this Hundred Hole Hike Twitter contest: http://www.hundredholehike.com/blogs/enter-win-hundred-hole-hike-twitter-contest (I apologize for the shameless plug, but it's for a bunch of good causes.)

My club is mainly a walking club but with caddies...thoughts on a caddie using the MacKenzie bag, meaning with no stand would it be a pain or otherwise. Second question: is there a place that sells the bags where you can actually see what youre buying without having to go to Oregon. Not sure I would want to order just from an online pic.

I was a caddie in the late 1980s and much of the 1990s. There were a couple of members who had the original MacKenzie bag -- believe Peter Jacobsen was involved with the company at that time. Trust me when I tell you that NO caddie is going to complain about carrying one of these bags. The only time it was a bit odd was when my other player insisted on a full leather staffer bag, but being imbalanced was preferable to humping two staff bags!

Just don't be hyper-sensitive about the bag. Even the full leather ones look really good when they start getting the well-worn look, and they last forever. Short of dragging it behind your car, I don't think they'll ever wear out.

I have never seen one in a retail store, unfortunately. I do remember the mail-order catalog Herrington used to carry them.

Sorry to being this thread back from the dead, but I scored a used one ebay recently, and I can't believe how great is! If you have a bag, please tell me how you clean it, and how often you blacken it up (i.e: polish, if you do?) Feel almost like i cheated buying it used, but hey, half price used is better than none at all. :partytime2:
