mackenzie golfbags?

Recommended Posts

MacKenzie bag users, I have a question. I have a ballistic Walker which I really like and have used as my primary bag for a number of years. I have noticed, certainly did last year, that at about mud-way through the back nine I was really wishing I had a double strap. My home course is quite hilly and I usually only carry what I need (12 clubs, no jacket, no range finder, 4 - 6 balls). Has anybody else experienced this and what did you do, if anything?

For those that just can't see paying so much for a small carry bag, there is now a new option...The orignal Jones Bag is back! (Shown above in Black, but Blue, Red, Green, and Grey area also available). Available for order now with very quick delivery. - Do a search of this forum for more info about the Original Jones Bags! - Think of the Jones Bag as "the poor man's MacKenzie" :golfer:

I picked up this Jones bag they did in collaboration with Maide Golf (Bonobos). I love it. Gets comments without fail. Not my pic, from their website, but the same bag.

Are you using any type of leather conditioner on these bags - if so, what works well - or are you letting them age on their own?

Thanks in advance

I own two custom leather golf bags, one is a Mackenzie and the other an Elliot. I love them both.

Not sure how you can't love them. But then again I can't stand conforming to the norm. I like having something that is only mine and there is nothing quite like it.

One of my custom golf bags is made of Holstein Cowhide---black and white spotted cowhide fur.

Love mine, this one is my 3rd. All black everything, contrast straw stitching. I was going to try Leather Honey on it to keep it looking beautiful, anyone tried it?

I have one too...love this one. Let me know about honey. I have owned mine for 5 years and I could probably put something on it.

i have the Mackenzie with the pocket in front and one in back. I like the look better.

You don't need all of the modern day golf bag pockets. It's ok for you clubs to touch.

I have the same bag and love it. I carry 14 clubs and walk with no problems.

A question; How do you Jones and Mackenzie bag users carry a water bottle? Thanks.

I don't carry much in the way of ball, Tees, misc., so in the ball pocket works perfectly. What I do is have a few Ziploc bags in the ball pouch. I put my wallet and phone in a ziploc so they won't get wet if it is raining. Everything just in the one pocket. The big pocket on the back is for a jacket if I need one.

Of course that works great as well. You've only got two choices. It really depends on how you want access to the water bottle. If you take it out and drink it all, the jacket pocket is perfect. If you want access while walking, the top pocket is plenty big. These bags really are great thanks to their durability and simplicity...

I know right! This bag will look even better in 10 years after being used and abused. My 20 year old MacKenzie bag is still great, and worn. Just purchased a Jones Players bag to replace it, and I don't know, the 20 year old MacKenzie just feels more quality even after many many rounds in all weather...

I had a bottle holder sewn onto bag when it was made. Works great

Check out Elliott Golf Bags from Charleston SC. They are similar style to MacKenzie but ALOT more options, better customer service, MUCH shorter wait time and less money.

also respectfully disagree on more options. I don't want more options when I'm walking. 6 balls, a ball marker, a rain jacket; range finder and a water bottle.

I find so many tees that people throw away on the teebox that it's laughable.

I only have 1 pocket on my MacKenzie... When I have a smaller water bottle, I just put it in the big pocket like you mention. After moving to Arizona, I need more water and need cold water so I have a Yeti tumbler (the one with the big loop on the lid and not a open mouth hole)... It's a little too big for that pocket so I actually have been hooking it to a carabiner and hooking the carabiner to the handle on the outside of the bag. It works really well that way. I switch between my mackenzie and a Titleist Sta Dry. The '16 4UP Sta dry doesnt have a water bottle holder and I didn't realize that when I bought the bag. so I started the carabiner thing with that bag and would just hook it to the towel loop on the Sta Dry. I broke the MacKenize back out earlier this year and did it for the first time there and really liked it.
