Why do you play where you do?

I'm curious to why everyone plays where they do? Do you and your playing partners play wherever the best deal is? Do you play a somewhat shoddy course because that's where the money game is at? Let me know and why please?

 

For me it's a combination of all. I like to go where it's convenient and where I can afford at the moment, but I don't want to play a layout I don't like or a course in rough shape.

Because I get a great rate at a RTJ Jr. design which is impeccably maintained. Fun course to play, too.

Because it's an awesome track, with a fantastic practice area, and i literally have the place to myself during the week, in the late afternoon and evenings. As a member I can also get any tee time needed on the w/ends.

I usually play on short notice, therefore, I usually play somewhere close to home where I can get a decent tee time.

The course I play regularly was chosen for a mix of reasons:

- It is close by my home
- It is reasonably priced
- The conditioning is good
- They have a well run men's club

But the primary reason is that it is a course design that is interesting and fun to play repeatedly.

My home course is recognized as the best track in my area, and one of the best in the whole of Yorkshire.....I'm proud to be a member....it isn't cheap though....but it is definately good 'value'....

All of the above except the big money game bit. As a father of two kids under 5 and with a busy work schedule, my golf is limited and I want to get quality rounds in. I sometimes need courses with last minute availability as well, because I never know when a free morning or afternoon will come up, which is why I checked "other".

I prefer challenging tight and fast courses that demands me to think and place shots; overall length is almost secondary. Besides, hitting the ball as far as we can in no way measures our ability to get the ball in the hole in fewest strokes.

I chose my course for all of the reasons above...

-my course has hosted two european tour events (Irish Open) and is one of the best in Ireland
-the course is a links and can be a real challenge when the wind picks up
-the membership is good value (for a junior!)
-the course is the nearest course to my house (except for a run down nine holer!)
-there are excellent practice facilities there.

Itsreally simple for me because it is the one and only golf course in my county, LOL .
I guess i really do live out in the sticks but , there are a few other reasons :

It is about 5 mins from my house (that is convenient but then again it doesnt really matter cause its the only one here LOL) .

The staff and other players are very nice and , the old guys are a riot , i love teeing it up with those grumpy old men . They have told me some of the funniest stories i have ever heard , they really have seen and done it all .

It is maintained and manucured very well and , i like the layout and the mix of trees , hills and wildlife .

And even though its the only course in the county i can go tee it up at anytime during anyday .

I am a member and , members get drinks for half price and i am a sucker for Jack & Coke and screwdrivers ,LOL .

Most of the time its driven by convenience and price, a father of 2 who get's out randomly and sparingly, I take what I can get.

The few times I plan ahead and make something I happen, its condition and layout, with a max price ... for me its about $50 (which can get a you nice public round here in Tulsa, OK!).

2. it's cheap (and I have a season pass)
3. it's a nice looking and playable 69.5/120
4. I can get in most rounds in less than three hours

condition isn't very important and I don't play for money

i play where i play because i play for free (because i work there)
and because we have 8 courses to choose from.
even tho i have 8 different courses to choose from i rarely play 4 of them as they are a half hour to 45mins away from home
the 4 courses that are located across the street from my house,( and where my store is) are great layouts and WAY more convenient.
On that note...golf is not quite officially over here even though they are firing up the snow guns tonight to get ready for Ski season...i have a tournament on Sunday that we call "The Orange Open" due to the fact that many playing will be dressed in their Deer hunting best!

1) I am a member at the club and can play there as much as I want for EUR 1.200,- a year.
2) It takes me 8 minutes by car or 45 minutes walking to get there.

The course i play, Monarch Bay is the best one in my area for the money. It used to be a tour stop in the 70's. When i lived in the city, I had a resident card and could play Harding Park for $45..... that was also a sweet deal. I would have no problem driving an extra 30 minutes, for a nicer condition course for equal or lesser money. Condition counts for a lot when your talking public courses, and i am.

$ 106 a month, toughest course around here ( only three + 1 nine hole regulation) Never very crowded.
Only 6100-6300 yrds (northwest wet = no roll and cool temps), but OB both sides on every hole, most very close in. Small, fast greens.
I play a couple of times a week, plus we have the best range in the area.
It's 25 minutes from my house and it rains less over there.
I try to play the other courses once a month at least, but my other favorite is over crowded in the afternoon and overpriced in the morning.

I selected 'Other'. For me, one of the main criteria is the ability to get an early tee time. I almost always play on Saturday mornings. If I can't get a tee time within a half-hour of sunrise, I find somewhere else. The conditions of the greens would be another prime criteria. Frankly, I'm not all that concerned with the condition of the rest of the course as long as the greens are good.

i like a course that lets me hit a lot of drivers, which without trying to be boastful, was a challenge at my last place. It has to be in good shape, have nice greens and have a good clubhouse/locker room...i also want a challenging layout...basically all of the above i guess. My new course was a great price and meets all the criteria, so i chose it despite that it's a bit of a drive

Still playing the course I grew up on and played in High School.....almost 20 years now. I seem to have an attachment to it that probably began when my pops used to drop me off on the weekends and I'd play till dark.

It is close (less than 3 min.), but it is a fun layout. You have to hit a variety of shots, and they keep the course in great shape.

Glad I'm not the only one who thinks this way.


My 'home course' is because it is close to my home and is a good combination of the things I like about golf. ...and it's reasonably priced.

I play 2 places a majority of the time. First place is the course I live on. Its obviously most convenient to play since you can't get any closer. The second place I play is about 15 minutes away. Its the course at the college I went to. I play there because its a nice course and Alumni get great rates. Memberships are a sick deal to so I'm gonna get one in the next 2 years or so.

1) It's the nicest (public) course in the area, leaps and bounds better than anything close.
2) The fact they give students stupid cheap membership doesn't stop me from coming everyday of the week.

Yes, it is a little bit of a drive, but I figure if I am going to be spending hours of my time there, what does 20 minutes on the freeway (each way) hurt?
