Year round golfing -- why not move?

My family lives here, plus my job. I don't think it's all bad I play almost every day from march to November so the break is good, it makes me appreciate the days I can play more.

I live where I can play golf pretty much year round. I had my priorities in order when I moved to Texas...a place where I could play golf year round, women were attractive, real estate was less expensive and I could find a way better than average paying job.

Job? Family? Friends? You call yourself a golfer? What kind of priorities are these? Next thing, you'll be telling us that these sort of excuses for not playing 24/7 are somehow rewarding or valuable. You probably eat and sleep too, don't you? These activities are totally NOT golf-related. Get a grip.

I live in Canada. Packing up and moving my whole life to a warmer climate just to play golf all year round would be a pretty idiotic thing to do in my situation. I really love to golf but there are so many other things that take priority.

I just had a beautiful round today. Sunny and mid-60s. But of course your golf round feels better.

I moved to Alaska from Augusta Ga a little over a year ago and it sucks! I moved because the Army said I had to, otherwise I would still be living somewhere that has year round golf. With any luck I will be enjoying warm weather again in about 14 months.

Job, crappy housing market and the politics/taxes of in the place I'd like to go (California) keep me from moving. We have looked at AZ, TX, NM. Our parents live in CA, and they ain't gettin' any younger.
We make pretty good $$ here and there's no state income tax.

Washington almost has year 'round golf. I'm a bit tired of being wet, though. December through early march can be a little cold for golf, but I should be snowboarding then any way.
Maybe in a couple of more years. We both work in medicine, so our careers are pretty mobile.

If I moved to another place I would not have my family around to drop my kids off for a few hours so I can play golf, Free babysitters are awesome!

I normally can play year round here in Georgia (or Gawja as some of the folks around here pronounce it). Course we have around 6 inches of the white stuff on the ground right now. This is the most we've seen (as in you could still see the grass the other times) since 93'.

Why play all year round? I'd be missing taking my kids out sledding and tubing on the hills at the course I play on the other 8 months of the year. Also skating on the ponds outside even playing a little hockey out there..... no way I'd give that up for an extra 16 weeks of golf. The break is awesome to get refreshed and usually gets rid of any flaws that were creeping into the swing.

I work from home, so I can basically work anywhere. If it weren't for family I would be off to Arizona or Florida in a heartbeat!!!

I choose to stay because golf is only a hobby? Its not like I have to shoot in the 60's to be able to keep my job and make money. I love golf as much as the next job but its still only a hobby/sport.

I moved to the Great Plains because Al Gore said it would be warmer with year round golf here in the near future. Just got done shoveling a foot of snow but I'm keeping the faith!

I just moved from year round golf to Nebraska. Not really liking it with 9" of snow on the ground. We moved for family reasons. I was working a job that required about 2 weeks of travel/month. Now I am on the road about 1 night a month. North-east NE was on of only 3 areas in the US that would allow me to be home with my chosen profession. The other two areas are already saturated with guys like me, so no more year round golf. But as I tell myself every morning, only 48 more days till March.

Dooooooood, you just gave me a new hope! I had this false impression that golf was so utterly far away, but when I saw you post there are only 48 days left until March (I hope you don't use the number 48 every morning though...) I actually got pretty excited considering that's about a month and a half.

See, I lived in NC for the past three years and this is my first winter being back in the midwest. Not having golf 12 months out of the year, while sucks at times, is actually nice now and then too. Allows for many, many other things.

I am trying to find a reason to stay here in NY.. NOT finding one especially at 12* today and the foot of snow out there... I love the summers and hate the winter, hmmm. I was all set to move to NC last January too, should have taken the chance and gone, but I got tentative when the job wouldn't get around to a formal written offer before they wanted me there.

I have thought about the perfect year-round golf climate many times.

Apart from some parts of California, I am not sure it exists in too many places.

Florida has a fantastic golf infrastructure, but it is too dang hot and humid to golf in certain months. Ditto Arizona.

So, the way I figure it, the secret is finding the ideal golf climate with the shortest off-season.

Simple - I like being married, and the woman I fell in love with and had little kiddies with loves Chicago. True story: the night before I was going to accept a position in my company that would have had me move to southern CA to be the director of a division for our business interests in California and Hawaii (a week in Maui every month!), my then fiance told me (over the phone - HQ was in another state) she was pregnant and didn't want to move away from her family right when we were going to be having a child. Marched in my boss' office @ 8 am the next day and told him he needed to find me something in Chicago because I wasn't moving. Haven't looked back - well, left that company eventually, but I don't figure I'll ever be leaving Chicago...besides, there's not a better summer city in the world.

We have the highest sales tax in the country, the highest gas prices in the country, a 66% increase in personal income tax (just passed), and the most crooked politicians in the world. This state xxxxxx sucks.
