How much would you pay to play Augusta National?

After reading through the Doral post about how expensive people thought it was, that got me thinking. How much would you pay to play Augusta National? Let's say you had the opportunity to play it, what is your breaking point?

I'd pay pretty much anywhere under $3,000, I know that seems extreme but that would be a once in a life time experience

To play on Augusta or Cypress I honestly do not think there is a number I'd shy away from, so long as it was within my ability to pay. I think I'd go up to $5k for either. Maybe more if I knew certain people would not be judging me for spending a large sum of money. I've spent that much and more on way less memorable vacations. And I'd hire a "caddy" to bring on my own, he'd be carrying quite a decent amount of photography equipment while I carried my clubs.

To me, ANGC is too much about many things I think are wrong with golf. Don't get me wrong, I love golf… just not this entity. I love the course, just don't think I would ever be comfortable there.

And while the pomp and circumstance of it all, and the weight the players put on this tournament make for good TV, I think that is a close as I want to get to it.

Being as I've walked the course dozens of times from watching the pros play live, I don't know that I wouldn't take out a considerable sized loan to play it.

I dont think it matters on a course that probably sees 3.2 people a year besides the masters

If I could pay to play it, a lot of the allure would go away...... It would still be great to play where all those champions did, but a big part of what makes it so great to me is how it's untouchable.

Augusta should hold a 1 or 2 day charity fundraiser event. $5-10k per per player and you get to play a full round at Augusta. Let's see $5k x 4 x 18= $360,000 x 2 since it's gotta be a shotgun with 2 groups on each tee = $720,000 x2 days = $1.4million plus. I'd go up to $5k.

A lot. A whole lot. Several thousands. But then I could see it being difficult to play well knowing how much you threw down to play there. Still, that wouldn't come close to stopping me.

I don't mind at all. I have played Torrey Pines many times when I lived in San Diego, and loved the course… just not the hassle of getting a tee time and the slow play.

I would love to play Pebble, but at the better part of a grand for tee time and guest accommodations, I don't know that I ever will. Plus I hear way too many horror stories of slow play and bad employee attitudes.

For me the whole course experience is tempered by rest the of the experience (staff, ease of access and the hoops you have to jump through, the folks in your group and the groups ahead and behind you). If the whole thing isn't pleasant, the course experience gets a lower rating in my mind. For me golf is escape from the things that stress me out, and a lot of hoopla, crowds, traffic, and waiting in line are those things. All reasons I don't live in L.A. or San Diego anymore.

I guess I have become a little spoiled in the last few years with my [url="http://applemountaingolfresort.com/index.php"]local course[/url]. The staff is so great, and the limited patronage makes me feel like I own the place. I can always get on at the drop of a hat, and the small town atmosphere pretty much insures we always play with pleasant folks.

I think I will make plans to visit a buddy in Oregon this Summer or Fall and check out Bandon Dunes. I also think many of the TPC courses look like great fun.

No doubt but you know there's people out there that think $50, $100, $200 is their Augusta with the same mindset. The "I paid $100 for greens fees so I'm gonna get my money's worth" kinda guy.

You are spot on, when AN was built Bobby Jones built it to be the most exclusive golf course in the world, I mean the whole principal behind private courses and especially AN (When opened, no blacks, no women) is everything that is wrong in the world and golf, games, and beautiful green spaces should be open for people to respect and enjoy, not shut away behind closed doors and made so exclusive that it is rarely ever seen.

All that said I still would do terrible terrible things to have a chance to play there hahahaha

I would try to get on with a member for no cost, then take alllll of the guys there out to an awesome dinner and drinks afterwards for the amazing experience. I think that would be much more worth while for us all and would cost me several thousand dollars im sure hahaha.
