Wow, lofts are seriously jacked these days. Pitching wedges are stronger than my 9 iron. No wonder everybody I know carries 4 wedges.

You didn't plan to fail, you failed to plan!

Y'all call em strong, I call em standard...
All new gi irons have "strong" lofts
6 iron is somewhere around 27 degrees
It's just the way it is nowadays
G25 6-iron is 29 degrees. Not exactly weak, but weaker than the majority of GI irons these days.

titliest ap1 45*

714 AP1 44* Could do worse than bag a set of Titleists.

But really who cares that the OP's mate wants strong lofts, if he has just picked up the game, is improving, is enjoying himself, and plans to continue playing the great game of golf, if this is what keeps him coming back, then great :)

Maybe as he grows into the game he'll develop an interest in other nuances of golf, beyond distance.

Hopefully he never gets paired with golfers who outwardly project their self-satisfaction with their weak lofts and instead just congratulate him on a well struck approach with his PW without needing to point out they hit an 8I.

Tell him to buy a set of forged irons and he can get them bent to whatever he wants them to be.
You can only do this within 2 degrees or so before you start inducing or changing the offset of the club. Equally bad, as you bend strong you loose a comparable amount of bounce, which becomes problematic over 1 or 2 degrees as well.

It's not a great solution, you're are far better off starting with stronger lofts if that's where you know you want to end up.

My buddy will probably salivate with those cobra lofts. I think he might find those wilsons an off brand. He's a brand ho also. Lol!
Wilson an "off brand"? Now THAT is a sad indicator of where things are at in golf today. I'm a Wilson man and I guess I'd have to agree with you, at least from a modern super-marketing standpoint.

Maybe I should get with the program and trade my FG-17's for a flashy new set of Slippery-SLDR's or whatever they call the next monstrosity. At least then the GI guys would leave me alone about my blades.

That being said, I would also suggest the Cobra's. Get em' bent 2 or 3 degrees stronger yet if you really want to step on the gas. Good luck and have fun!

I looked at the specs for these clubs. They have a 44* PW, which is the pitching wedge and a 54* SW, which is the sand wedge. So far so good. Between those two, they have a 49* DW. What does the D stand for? GW is gap wedge, AW is approach wedge, but what is DW? Dynamic wedge?

It won't matter what the loft is, it won't go as effectively distance wise if he don't produce an ideal trajectory.

You can cranked the pw to an 8 iron loft to make it fly 20-30 yards further, how about on the long iron? Can he launch it to an ideal trajectory? Can he produce a consistent gaps between irons? I'm not saying that he won't, but technically it won't work that way. That's why fitting is important if it done properly.

Just FYI, fourteen golf has some of the strongest loft I've seen in stock specs.

My 2 cents!

Joe

DW is a "Dual Wedge"....Just a different term for "Gap Wedge".

I personally prefer to use a 4-9-iron set of the 588 TT's in combo with Niblick Wedges. My PW, DW, and SW are the 2011 Niblick Hybrid Wedges. (PW=42*, DW=49*, and SW=56* with a 14* bounce). I also find it useful to carry a conventional 60* low bounce wedge (8* of bounce). For me that is the Cleveland CG-16 Black Pearl 1-dot Wedge which is also happens to be a cosmetic match with the 2011 Niblicks.

The 2011 Niblick SW is fantastic for most most sand and lob shots, but for downhill sand lies, buried sand lies, or for hardpan lobs from the fairway, the conventional CG-16 60* low bounce wedge comes in quite handy.

I strongly recommend this particular strong-lofted combo of clubs. My scoring is better than ever with these!
