Since I have not been playing any golf for the last 8 months, I have had a lot of beer drinking time. And believe me I have been drinking a lot of beer. One that has really stood out to me is a brewery in Fresno CA. called Tioga Sequioa brewing. Their General Sherman ipa is fantastic. Very similar to the Russian River stuff. Anybody heard of it , or tried it ?

I've never heard of it but if it's comparable to the RR stuff it must be good.

Winter is my least favorite craft beer season.

I'm just not a huge fan of heavy, overly spiced beers.

I'm drinking a Sam Adams Merry Maker(it was a gift) right now and it's tough to drink but not that bad.

I drank a Brooklyn Sorachi earlier, that was pretty damn tasty.

Finishing off my last barley wine from the bourbon county release. The coffee stout was by far my favorite this year.

Now I have to clear some room in the fridge for Hopslam and Founders imperial stout that will be in store Thursday.

Well I've officially got the homebrew bug haha. Bottled up my first batch last night of an American pale ale, can't wait to try it with a little carb. This next week or so is gonna take forever haha.

Actually went to my brew store and picked up the ingredients for my 2nd batch, the Deception Cream Stout posted on homebrew. Seriously cannot wait to get deeper into brewing. If it's anything like I've ever been in to, then I will soon enough be completely immersed in homebrew

Keep us up to date. I was reading about some of the 1 gallon kits and thinking of going that way to start.

This is just my opinion, but if you think you're gonna brew more than just one batch, ever, invest in the nice kit. You can always sell it on Craigslist. Better yet, look on Craigslist for used kits!!!

I like the idea of a small batch I can put in two growlers and be done and not have to worry about my kids breaking bottles. But as you said I'm sure after once or twice I will want to amp up. Good call on craigslist. I will look tonight. Post some pics of the set up if you have a chance.

Now that I think about it, a small batch would be cool to play around with for experimental recipes, that way if it sucks you don't have 5 gallons of crap haha.

I'll post some up soon, along with my first beer. I put one in the fridge today just to taste a cold one, and though the carbonation is low, it is delicious!!!

Tried Dogfish Head 90 Minute at the pub the other night for the first time and it's a winner. Not a big fan of IPA's, but this one is so smooth and flavorful at the same time. Almost addicting!

Attended a local event last night called Stoutuary - they featured all the Goose Isalnd Bourbon County stouts e.g. Backyards, Barleywine, Lollita, Coffee etc...

The Backyards was my favorite - at first it was a bit too berry but I got use to it and it blended with the stout very nicely. Excellent beer - wish I had some at home.

Just found this thread. Best time of the year. Lagunitas Sucks is out and Nugget Nectar will be here in a month. Will probably go for some Hopslam this year as well, seeing how I have never tried it.

Other faves: DFH Burton Baton and 90 (I think the 60 is a bit malty for my taste), Lagunitas IPA, Bell 2 Hearted. On the lighter side, Magic Hat #9 is a great post-round beer. Local (DC metro area) fave is Starr Hill Northern Lights IPA.

Was out to dinner with the fam at the Bavarian lodge outside Chicago - had a FFF dreadnought & zombie and surly smoke. Makes the food taste awesome

Zombie Dust is one of my favorite beers. I'm assuming since you are in Chicago you have had Pipeworks beers? Their stuff sounds really good. The Abduction stout and it's variants sound good.

Zombie Dust is one of my favorite beers. I'm assuming since you are in Chicago you have had Pipeworks beers? Their stuff sounds really good. The Abduction stout and it's variants sound good.

Pipeworks for me is hit or miss - I really enjoy the Citra Ninja, one of the best IPAs around IMO

One of the few perks, craft beer wise, of living in Ohio is the abundance of Head Hunter IPA. It's nice to know that I can actually get my hands on one of the better beers - can't get Pliny, Heady, Zombie Dust, etc...

Looking forward to some Hopslam as we are supposed to get some in my area next week. Also looking forward to next month when Nugget Nectar comes out, one of my all-time favorite beers.
