Does anyone still game Ping Eye 2's?

I did that this past weekend. Shot a 77. Not to bad for a 25 year old set of EYE 2's. I just picked up another set too, just in case my wife want's to play them too

Yeah they will re-tumble the heads and you can choose the finish, standard, or guyson. It's not terribly expensive either from what i understand. They will also bend the lie and loft for i think 20 dollars? per 8 clubs and re-paint the color dot.

This is probably my favorite thread of all the forum and a testament that one need not fall victim and chase all the claims of "technology" with a great set of old Pings around. Today's technology seems somewhat overstated as it is, when essentially we are talking about a mass of metal shaped in various ways to propel the ball down the fairway, be it high launch, penetrating flight, degrees of forgiveness, etc. They simply work.

Two of the better players at my Chicago 'burbs club use old clubs, because they choose to, and still win club events. They each claim they have no desire to replace clubs as they've traveled the US and Scotland with their sticks which have become trusted companions. One of them has been gaming the copper Eye 2's since new, and they still look great today.

Ping offers great value, and although I never owned Eye 2's, these photos make me appreciate the principle in design behind the my Pings (I3's, G10's and G20's).

I still think these are the best playing irons I have ever owned. I played my Ping Eye 2's with the ZZ Lite shafts up until about 4-5 years ago. Since then I have played Callaway's (x16, x18) newer Ping models I3's and G10's but haven't like any as much as I loved my Eye 2's. Just wondering if anybody else who played the Eye 2's w/ZZ Lite shafts has found a set of irons that they liked as much or more and if so what are they?

I got 5, 6 and 7 at Goodwill for $4.00 a club. Then some nice fellow on here sent me the 9 iron for just the shipping. I traded in an Odyssey DFX I also got at Goodwill for $3.00 for the 4 iron, and I don't play a 3 so I am right there. I do have a 3 which isn't the + version and all the rest are, but I just don't really hit a 3 iron. And I just got the 8 off the 'Bay for about $20 so I've not paid much for them at all. I got some nice Golf Pride 'Patriot' grips which I intend to put on them.

I bought a ping eye 2 BeCu set a few years back after punching myself with a set of slingshots for years. I absolutely loved everything about them. I may have to sell them soon to help pay for things that will be more important but i someday i will purchase a set to keep forever.

Played a round with a Ping Eye 2 user today and he hit them just fine. I use the i15's. He was saying he demoed all the newer models over the years and couldn't justify changing what he has, seemed to be happy with them. I guess alot of the new model lines will be marketing hype to a large degree.

Update*

After fiddling with S59's for the last 10 rounds, i can say that there is no place like home... Welcome back Eye 2's. Played one round with the Eye 2's and it was like driving with the cruise control on.. I shot a 74 on sunday (half drunk) and i could have been napping. They got a new set of Ping 703 white caps, and a deep clean ( i even polished the shafts) this spring and feel like brand new clubs. I can't believe it took me 15+ sets of irons to come to the conclusion that i like playing with $100 clubs from 25 years ago. 59's I wanted to like you, and i kinda do... but your no daisy... your no daisy at all.

Plus no plus was a one year model, It had the head shape and lofts of the Eye 2 + with the larger grooves of the first generation Eye 2. They are hard to come by and fetch a pretty penny.

Eye2s to I5s, now I15s. I'll never trade/sell the Eye2s. Still play with them occassionally. One day I'm sending them back to Ping for the 'makeover.' They told me $30.00 something per club. Saw a set last summer that had been done. Looked brand new! May just leave the ZZs in them, cost even less to refurbish them.

I have a set of Eye 2 +'s sitting right behind me at my office as I type this. Got them off Ebay last year for $120 shipped, 3-PW with the KT shafts, in pretty darn good condition. I already had a SW (zz lite), which I use in my current setup. Love that club.

I pulled the trigger on these a little too quickly though as to play these I would need to send these to Ping to get lengthened +1" and bent from red to black. As a side note, Ping can bend these two "dots" I believe.

If anyone who needs a standard length red dot setup is interested feel free to hit me up (around $100 ???). It would be for the 3-PW.... nobody is TOUCHING my SW

If not, I'll eventually get some extra cash together and send them off for the adjustments.

Got a set of Eye2+'s 3-PW w/ DGS300 shafts .25" long. BeCU Eye2 LW. ISI 2-iron. The original shafts rusted out b/c of bad care from the previous owner. I gamed these for 10 years & they're still in decent shape. I recently bought a Titleist 712 CB/MB combo set, so these will be given a break for a while but I'll never get rid of them.

Great irons to get your game back on line if you ever lose confidence.

Also esed to have some ISI BeCu. Not as good as the Ping Eye 2 BeCu, in particular the SW. If you get you hands on some, hang on to it.

[/quote]I don't think the grooves wear AT ALL. Not at least compared to some of the older Miz MP stuff you will see where the grooves are literally rusted and gone entirely.

Another thing I like a lot about Eye2s.
