Here's my $40 Craigslist Eye 2+ find... Had to have the heads pulled but they shined up nice. Thinking about sending them to Ping to be matched with a nice set of ZZ Lite's

Thats just sick!

Walter: Tell me Bobby, why do you play this game?
Bobby: I play because I love it.
Walter: Well I play for the money. I have to win. That is why every time we face each other I will always beat you.

Awesome. It's great to see this thread bumping, the Eye 2 is still a great iron and I think some of the heads out there will outlive us!

You still got the shafts?
They were so rusted that if you hit them you would be scared of the heads flying off... The heads were actually greenish (I will post a before pic).

I was just talking to my girlfriend about the rusted out DCI's (also with destroyed shafts) that I had to take with them and she reminded me that I payed $25 for the 4 sets not $40 ;) anyone know someone who could refinish the DCI's on the cheap?

Here are the before pics... took some elbow grease but I brought them back and saved them from the landfill :)

The 4 iron still has some battle scars from that nasty mark on the top right but very playable

Just wondering if anyone games Ping Eye 2's.

Or, do they just not compare, performance wise, to today's clubs? (I know the lofts are different, no comments needed there).

I know the technology is not the same, blah, blah, blah,.... but the bottom line question is: Do they perform as well as today's clubs?

I have a set of 3 thru the LW in Ping 350 reg. graphite that I bring out and play once in awhile I just like the newer stuff better. One of these days i will put them up for sale just never seem to do it.

I read on another forum were Ping will refurbish these for $17.95 ea. They look like brand new when done.
Thanks Greg, I already took my time cleaning them and got them pretty shiny but can't wait till I start gaming them so they can get that nice patina (previous page are pics). I did call Ping when I found them to check on the serial numbers and they said they would shaft and grip them for $30ish. I did hear somewhere that they don't make the ZZ Lites anymore though so I dunno what shaft I would go with :(

they do hit the ball rather straight, and some find that very important.
they do look horrible though...
Name one of todays irons that will be playable in 25 years, just one... Even todays cast irons looks beaten after a short while. Like every products made in recent years, there is nothing that is made to last.

That is where the Eye2's beauty is!

I love this thread. It is fun to see how many of us still use them. Mine will celebrate their 24th birthday this season. And i love how people are still trying to strike gold like Karsten did 30years ago. Epic. Mine = Box-groove edition. 2-LW. ZZ lites. Cushin or Sensicore inserts. WRX paintfill. The only thing I see that someone could complain about would be the relatively light swing weights (c9 - d0 ish). Which is why I sometimes sub out the SW and LW.

Ping re-issued the Eye 2 wedges with conforming grooves. Now they need to get on the ball and re-issue a full iron set of Eye 2s. Easily one of the most durable and consistent performing irons ever. I have seen well used sets of Eye 2s that pretty much look brand new.
The grooves do seem to hold up incredibly well as all the older sets I tend to see. Certainly don't deteriorate like Mizunos or other forged irons.

Eye 2s simply are the most important - probably greatest - irons ever fabricated.

My dad still uses his Eye 2s. He went to ping to get fittedfor new clubs, and they refused to get them for him, since he had the Eye 2s.
That's ridiculous! Tell him to find another shop. The Eye2's are great and all, but the current G-series is superior if forgiveness is important.

You mean they didn't find anything that justified purchasing a new set...right? C'mon. Those of us that ha e the irons love them, and most realoze that they can go toe to toe with most new mid handicap to players irons today. But to refuse a sale because one has a hast of eye2's sounds almost racist...

That greenish powder is just copper oxide, or whatever they call it. Copper's version of rust. The BeCu cleans up very well with just an overnight soak in denture cleaner. Just put all the heads in a small bucket, fill with water until the hosels are covered and keep dropping tabs of Polydent denture cleaner until the water turns a very dark green. Put it in a corner where nobody will stumble over them and in the morning rinse with clean water and brush with a stiff nylon brush. The heads ought to look newly bought without the shine, other than whatever battle scars they may have acquired from use. I did the same thing to my BeCu 1-A putter and very much liked the results.
