Anyone else still using Titleist 962b irons?

Recommended Posts

I use them in the winter months to hit balls in the garage. Great looking iron, they don't feel as good as my 680s, but still a very gameable iron. They're much smaller from Heel to toe than most mbs. I have 2-pw, got them heads only from mikes golf outlet a few years ago for under $100. I can take a few pics tonight of them, the triple grind sole is a winner.

Do the 962b's have the same shaft as your 680's? Not doubting your statement on 962b vs 680 on feel, but shafts can make a difference on feel, I believe. The 680's are a set of clubs I would like to have some day, I've had the 681[liked], 690mb[liked], and 670[didn't care for].

Yeah both have dg t.i. x100s, IMO the 962b feel similar to my r9 B stamp irons.

As title states, anyone else still using these irons? Just got another set of unused heads for shaft experiment, low offset, more traditional lofts, great sole grind, smaller head size, conforming grooves and practically indestructible in same fashion as older Pings. I am curious if others appreciate the irons or if I am one of few remaining.

Love them!!

So I figured I would necro a 962 thread after Mr. Wunder's interview articles about the B's being his favorite iron of all time: My favorite irons of all time: Titleist 962BAlso, I'd love to hear some recommendations of wedges to complete the bag if you play the B's. I'm thinking that some Scratch wedges would work really well with their smaller heads, but what say you?!?

Seemed as if the 990 irons were much more popular at the time these models came out? The 990s never seemed very playable to me.

Oh yeah....had a set from 1998 until about 2005. Smaller compact head and looked, felt great.

Stainless steel cast head with small cavity...Excellent!

Don't blame me, blame ya boy @johnny_wunder!

Seriously though, I have the 6-P of the B's and 4 & 5 of the regular 962's. I'm debating grabbing a B head for the 4 & 5 as well, not that I should be.

Ultimately, I want to have my set of clubs built and ready to go, should I ever "need" them. The irons choices have come down to the 962/B set and a set of MP 32's, that I could also make a 60/32/67 combo set with. That MP combo set has kinda become the basis for my 1/2 set, and my other permanent/never sell set is my dad's EYE 2 BeCu 1-L. Since those aren't technically legal, they will become a fantastic office piece which leaves me with the 962/B combo set to build my "personal" set with. For those wondering, my Callaway set is what I practice and play in games/events with, of course, but I'm a junkie and any excuse I can come up with to put another bag together is ok with me!

All that said, I'm not doing to bad, right? The iron sets that I have on my workbench are MP 32's, EYE 2 BeCu's, and 962/B's.

Sounds like I need to get on the 'bay and find a set of 845's (had one in high school, lol) to complete the collection! Seriously though, I just can't. The garage is already a mess and my wife (who is an amazingly patient woman!) would not be very, uhh, amused right now if boxes of golf clubs start showing up.

Maybe if I find something in that corner of the garage to sell I can swing it. She seems to be ok with anything that makes the number of clubs smaller.

Hmmmm......

My main playing set has weight-sorted (w/o the fancy labels) s400 hard-stepped once with hickory dowels. Have a “couple” of 2-pw sets, just in case, ?evidently I have been making this game way too difficult for a lot of years?

Sorry to resurrect this thread but I just have to say: I have a set of 962b irons that I use every once in a while. Last year, I put them in the bag for a bit and shot my lowest 18 hole round (-1) with them. I figured it was probably the Indian rather than the arrow, so I eventually put them back on the wall in favor of my set of T100s irons. After bad rounds, my brother would joke that I should probably put the "David Duvals" back in the bag and we'd laugh.

Fast forward to this year when I decided to put them back in the bag for fun and THE SAME THING HAPPENED. I ended up shooting my lowest 9 hole round (-4) with these old 962b irons in the bag. I'm to the point now where I'm probably going to sell my T100s irons and just go full time with the 962b set. The ball flight is better (higher with more spin), I have no problem finding the sweet spot, and they look cool as hell.

EDIT- Forgot to mention that in the 2 weeks since I put the 962b irons in the bag, my handicap has dropped 1 point.

Thats awesome, when something works it works. Like the David Duval reference.
