Anyone else still using Titleist 962b irons?

Mitchell

Recommended Posts

As title states, anyone else still using these irons? Just got another set of unused heads for shaft experiment, low offset, more traditional lofts, great sole grind, smaller head size, conforming grooves and practically indestructible in same fashion as older Pings. I am curious if others appreciate the irons or if I am one of few remaining.

My tourn partner still games them... He picked these up to replace an older set of Snake Eyes CB's...
I believe shafted with s300's & he throws monster high cuts into every green with them... Perfect consistent spin every time....

I think that they are one of the top irons ever made. Great looks and playability with a bit of forgiveness.

I had some for 7 years but moved on...... liked the stainless steel heads.
Did have to send the PW in to have it regrooved once, but GolfWorks did a great job on that.
Played well with them!

Triple sole grind...:) I have a set of 962's in the basement with "Precision" Rifle 6.0's in them. My son would disown me if I ever got rid of them...

i had both the 962 and 762 but i prefered the 762, they were such sweet irons, and i really miss titleist making the 2 iron for there sets. Those were the good old days!

In addition to my normal playing set of 3-pw listed in my signature, I have an x100 shafted 962b 2 that sees a fair bit of use in windy conditions as well as another unused set 2-pw I am planning on shafting up soon.

currently in the bag... picked up a used set cheap. Plugged some original satin Project X with gripmaster stitchbacks in them. Needless to say they are one of a kind at my home course. I like these A. the triple grind is versatile B. Very durable cast C. a very workable players cavity back, compared to modern irons including many MBs I hit a more penetrating ball flight with these. IMO for value sake you can't go wrong with a set of these older Titleist castings, durable as heck and perform as long as you hit the sweetspot consistently.

Excuse me as I troll ebay for another lightly used set!

Still using 962b set in starting line-up, see absolutely zero reason to change in foreseeable future.

I did up until this year when I finally made the switch to a more forgiving club due to my drastically reduced amount of golf. Had them since 97 or 98. They will never leave my backup bag.

The 962B irons had one of the absolute smallest sweet spots of irons I've ever played. Loved the head shape, size, and grind but moved onto forged irons and have never looked back. I'd have to go back to playing 100 rounds a year if I wanted to play the 962B's again.

I find it extremely hard to believe that avid golfers still play these! Pretty much any iron made in the last five years is light years better- even the 716 mb's are going to be more forgiving!

nah... B heads are right there with any MB made.... Ive had experiences with irons like that where i thought the sweet spot was tiny.. usually turns out to be a lie angle issue etc where im just not catching them right .... B heads are longer hosel and therefore favor the hosel side though...But nobody playing them is hitting them on the toe so thats really not an issue... I could play my set in a second and be just as good as the 680 proto set im playing or any other MB i have.... Somebody somewhere is playing them at a high level ... how do i know that ? they are on the USGA conforming list....and they wouldnt have gotten there if someone hadnt sent them in and forced the USGA ( yes i know they test anything you send) to test their set and enough samples to put them on the list... Plenty of other sets around those years arent mentioned on the list as good or bad.... and individually tested sets dont make the list ( my protos are unstamped and passed, yet arent mentioned) ...i wonder who that player is ?? anyway point is they pass muster...

I gamed them from when I was like 15 until this past year, so... 17 years! I wasnt really playing that much, but when I started back up I picked up a set of Callaway x forged from 2009.

I loved the 962b's, still have them, was thinking of selling them but probably cant get much for them. have 2-pw

I use them in the winter months to hit balls in the garage. Great looking iron, they don't feel as good as my 680s, but still a very gameable iron. They're much smaller from Heel to toe than most mbs. I have 2-pw, got them heads only from mikes golf outlet a few years ago for under $100. I can take a few pics tonight of them, the triple grind sole is a winner.

Do the 962b's have the same shaft as your 680's? Not doubting your statement on 962b vs 680 on feel, but shafts can make a difference on feel, I believe. The 680's are a set of clubs I would like to have some day, I've had the 681[liked], 690mb[liked], and 670[didn't care for].
