QMany's Swing/Sticks (KS Mid-Am Team Champion p. 125)

Q, sorry if I missed this in the last few pages (I think I've read everything, but just in case....), what are your thoughts on the FocusBand after having it for several months? Are you still using it?

I am still using it. I put together a weekly practice schedule which includes at least one five-minute FocusBand session. I feel like I have been much better in my routine and blocking out the "noise" on the course. I don't think it is worth the $500 retail but I feel like I've gotten plenty of value for what I paid.

Cool, thanks! Seems like it could be a valuable tool, but I just wasn't sure how practical it was on-course. Do you actually take it out on the course to practice, or just the range?

I haven't been able to talk myself into taking it to the range/course; I keep it at home and use it with putting practice. I probably should get it to the range to work on my pre-shot routine with the full-swing.

Feels like a halfer, staying wide, and then getting the L shoulder low and forward in transition.

Ball flight has been lower, farther, and straighter. Probably the best I've ever hit irons and wedges.

I agree, from a value perspective the Focus Band makes much more sense for coaches to have for work with multiple players rather an individual player owning their own. My coach has one and I've used it to good effect, but I can't imagine dropping 5 Franklins for one of my own. That's not to say that you won't benefit from owning your own as obviously Q has, but the full price of entry will likely make the juice not worth the squeeze.

Kanza%20Players%20Cup.jpg

Last year, I was looking at the Kansas Golf Association tournament schedule to figure out my plan and saw an event I wasn't familiar with, the Kanza Players Cup. I learned that the Top-8 Mid-Amateurs from East and the Top-8 Mid-Amateurs from the West square off in a Ryder Cup event usually alternating between host sides. Last year was at Prairie Dunes.

Rankings are based off of Player of the Year Points which are awarded for high finishes in the KGA championships and other events. I set a year-long goal to qualify for the East team. With a few Top-10s in big championships and 3 Mid-Am Series event victories, I finished 6th in the East and qualified!

The event is class, through and through. Each team member gets a personalized bag (East green, West blue), team uniforms, and there's a players-only banquet the night prior including the match draft.

During the event last year, they announced the 2018 host: Flint Hills National (Golf Digest Top-100)! It made the perfect venue. Our East squad was able to get one of the Lodges right on the range.

After a solid 5 & 4 win in our morning Fourball, we lost on 18 in afternoon Foursomes. But more importantly, our East squad held a commanding 5.5 - 2.5 lead heading into the final day Singles.

I drew arguably one of the West's best players with an impressive resume: US Amateur qualifier, 2X Kansas Amateur Stroke Play Champion, and much more. We had a great match! I played some really good golf, and it was a learning experience. At one time, I went a stretch birdie-par-birdie-birdie and made up no ground. On #8, I stuffed it to 24" which it looked like it was going in. My opponent had a hole-in-one! I was 1D on 17 and had my birdie putt to square the match go halfway down before lipping out. It just wasn't my day. I lost on 18. I was really happy with my ballstriking (especially irons and wedges) and mindset. But sometimes, you just get beat.

Thanks brother! Hahah, it’s the KGA’s newly-retired Executive Director. He’s at all of the big events with a serious camera, it’s pretty cool! Just have to get used to the paparazzi in your downswing.

Swing is looking NIIIICE! Just wanted to stop in and say, i fiddled with your lead shoulder intent this week and holy sh1t! I am already pretty long (7i is stock 185 club) but this is crazy. Ball flight is lower and the ball just jumps off the club. I took it into a tournament yesterday and it held up under pressure. I scored terrible b/c my distances were all way off. Two different times i had 168/9 to a back pin and flew 9i over the greens. 158 and flew a PW over the green with a stock swing.

This is not an intent to brag, who would brag on a 79? I definitely think this move is great for irons. I plan to keep messing with it and see where it leads.

Play well!

That is the "problem" I had when I first started working on this move. And the wind doesn't seem to touch it as much. Again, good problems to have! :taunt: Irons and wedges have been incredible with this move. I just need to straighten out driver a touch; it is solid, just a little squirrely.

I knew within a couple swings that this intent doesnt work for woods for me. I find it very difficult to hit up on a Driver or 3w with this move. I am probably going to keep my driver swing as is, if it aint broke....

Again with the laser focus. I don't know how you stay on top of your game while waiting for the other players in the group to take the extra 17-37 strokes. The waiting would kill me. Congrats on the PB.

It is tough, and I did lose focus one time. The round was slowww, and while I was over the ball on the par three 11th, my playing partners were talking about the group ahead of us lollygagging around. Complete blackout SHANK! Luckily, I watched it intently into the gunch, found it, and made bogey.

I was playing with my father-in-law and his buddies. They are the show and go type, so I didn't get a chance to roll any putts prior. I three-jacked the 3rd, missed slippery 5' and 9' birdie putts on 16-17, and finished with -1.52 SGP. :censored2:

First thing I noticed was the scores of your playing companions, and the amplifying details make it all the more impressive. That Focus Band work seems to be paying dividends.

Seriously, I love the progress you've made. I'd say it gives me hope for my game, but that might be a mighty stretch.

One of the very first posts that kicked off this crazy thread and journey was from 2013 when I played in my first tournament. I jumped in head-first and entered the Missouri Amateur. My brother drove down from Omaha and looped for me. He knew absolutely nothing about golf, but it didn't matter. He was my best friend, and I could have had no one better on the bag to shoot the sh*t with and compete alongside. First try, we got through together!

I'm writing this with a heavy heart; Mitchell Dean Quandt was killed in a trucking accident on I-80 outside of Utica, NE on Wednesday, May 30. We were only 15 months apart; we were lifelong best friends and each other's Best Man.

This thread has helped me along this crazy golf journey. I've shared many ups and downs, and the GolfWRX community has helped me get through it all. If you are so generous as to help me one more time, I'd ask you to visit the Mitchell Quandt Memorial Fund to help support his mourning family.

He leaves behind his wife Jancye, twin boys Calvin Mitchell and Cohen Dean, and a baby due January 2019.
