for those who have these wedges in play how are you finding the spin around the greenS? Seems to me they bite a bit more than SM4!
Played my first round with them yesterday. I got the 52f and 58m in chrome. I'd have to agree with you for sure! 52 was about the same as the sm4 but the 58 reminded me of the original sm series. I love it!

Just finished jrshelbie's method for removing the raw black finish. Start to finish the process took me about an hour. I'm very glad I went with the raw finish.

Yesterday, a local driving range had a demo day. This was the first time I have seen Titleist attend a demo day; and, I certainly didn’t leave disappointed. Since I will be going to college shortly, I knew I needed to change my wedges since the grinds and bounce wouldn’t work for me at the university’s course. Fortunately, the rep brought the entire Vokey SM5 line!

We started the fitting by discussing my current setup. I play a 50°, 54°, and 58° set, and really love the gaps of them. Nick was my fitter, and he began asking questions about the course I will be playing in college. He went on to ask how I use each club, and fit me from there.

Vokey SM5 50° F grind: This was probably the easiest of the three to come to. Nick, as with every loft, asked what I use the wedge for. A 50° wedge for me is mostly full swings, and occasional chips around the green. Knowing this, he decided that the F grind would be the best for me. I hit it on the lie board using full swings, and established I needed 1° upright.

Vokey SM5 54° M grind: Nick started this one as all the others— by asking how I used the wedge. I mainly use a 54 for partial or full shots, and occasionally long bunker shots. Based on this, we decided to hit both the M and S grind on a lie board. Based on my contact and impact marks, we confirmed that the M grind would work best for me. As above, a loft and lie board confirmed 1° upright, based on the partial and full swings I took with it.

Vokey SM5 58° S grind: This is where Nick really came into the equation. We started with the M grind, but based on the shots I use it for, Nick preferred the S grind. He stated that I could have probably used either wedge fine; but, I liked me slightly better in the S grind. As all the others, the lie board confirmed 1° upright.

In the end, I will order these wedges before I go to college. I couldn’t be more thankful for the experience to get a one on one fitting; I truly learned a lot.

Looks like you use your 54 for long bunkers so does that mean you use the 58 most of the time for greenside bunkers?

Yes. I really only like the 58 out of sand; however, I don't like trying to take less sand to fly my 58 extra far on a long shot.

How's the K grind for full shots. Thinking about a 58* K but I like to use my 58* for 80-90 yard shots and wondering if the added sole has any negative effect on full shots.
No it's fine on full shots, everywhere else is what gave me trouble.

thanks. How was the K compared to the Nike TS from the sand and around the green. Seems like the K didnt work out for you but I was curious to hear about the differences.

Ok I saw these in person for the first time today. Why do Vokeys just look perfect at address? The Black finish is clearly the winner. The gold is awful and the chrome is nice but too shiny and not enough satin.

Good thing I just bought SM4s late last year.

Anyone take a shot at removing the raw black finish yet?
I stripped mine with a little naval jelly and some scotch brite heavy duty dish scrubbers. Took a little longer than the oil cans, but still easy.
Nice work, same process as the others pretty much, I will be doing this to mine when they come in

Thinking about going from 3 wedges to 2 this season (not including PW). I've been playing a 50 (mizzy), 54M, 58S in oil can finish, which I liked, but I dropped the 4 iron. Want to put back the 4i and maybe do 52, 58.

Considering ordering a 58 TVD-K or SM5 K grind....and going 52 in SM5 (raw black) or save some money by getting a SM4 oil can (now that I think of it, it would probably be the same price as it's Titleist).

Between the TVD-K and SM5 K, the only difference is finish, graphite ion vs. raw black, and 1 degree in bounce I believe.

Tough choices!!!!
The Sm4 will probably be between 20-40 bucks cheeper if you can find them, don't know what the discount would be if you ordered them. Also the tvd k is 1* less bounce, slightly narrower, has slightly less camber and has a little more heel relief

Thank you for that info. Would 1* of effective bounce really make a huge difference?

I know there have been some questions about the "S" grind, so I thought i'd toss some pics up. The face lays open very nicely, and there is more of a grind than the stock pictures show. Let me know if you need anymore pics, I also picked up a 54S and a 50F.

Quick question: Why did you go for the S grind in both the 54 and 58? I'm going with the 50F, 54S but can't decide on the 58 grind.

I'm sure it's somewhere in the thread but if I play in firm sand conditions is the K what I want to go with? Keep reading the K is great out of the sand but not sure if it applies to firm/packed sand traps.
