Titleist Vokey SM5 Wedges: In-hand pics of all grinds and finishes

For those keen on a raw finish, it looks like the Black Ox might not be too tough to remove - judging by the normal wear alone on Chesson Hadley's gap wedge anyway.

 

 

 

 

I just picked up my 52.08F grind and 58.11 K grind Raw Black and by now I knew you could not remove the finish. You can however take the black off, or change it chemically, to look and act like a raw wedge. The Raw black will obviously feel the best being un-plated and now I believe this will be the best of both worlds as spin killing rust won't be as frequent. IMHO the Raw black looked awful and now these look like my SM4 Oil cans with the finish removed. Heres what I did.

 

I let the wedges sit with Navel Jelly on for about a 1/2 hour and then scrubbed with a tooth brush.

 

Then I put CLR on a scotch brite pad and and softly went over the wedges to remove any chalkiness.

 

The last step was Blue Magic metal polish to remove any streaking.

Thanks guys. I'm so glad I did take the raw black off. This could be the best finish I've ever seen. No glare Matt grey finish. Just like a fresh raw wedge.

Absolutely. I'd be fascinated to see some new pics in a few weeks when there's been chance for some oxidisation.

I got to see all 3 offerings yesterday at my local golf shop, and they are very nice. I'm really glad that I ordered the Gold nickel, b/c it looked great.

how cool looking are these wedges?? These are Rocco's wedges that Vokey tweeted a picture of. Looks like some type of black oxide finish and EVERYthing is stamped except the R's. Really cool

Scooped up a black LH 60-07 at PGA SS today. Real nice looking finish. I prefer it to oil can.

I hit about 15 balls each with the 60K in gold nickel and the 60S in black ox today, but off mats. Going back when things have dried out a little more to try them off real grass. Even from that I don't think the K grind is for me, unless I can get it with lower bounce. Really nice feel to both and I liked the look of the black ox. I was just going to get chrome to match my 200s but am seriously considering the black now. The heel relief on the S grind was more than it looked in the pictures, which is a good thing for me.

Really like the way they came out. Can you tell a feel difference between the raw finish and the 2 other finish options for the sm5?

I looked at all 3 finishes today at Golf Galaxy. Boy does the gold nickel put off a TON of glare. I couldn't imagine looking down at those on a sunny day. I'm glad I went with the black finish.

Just ordered up a 50F, 54S, and 58L in tour chrome. Can't wait to try out the S and L grinds. I thought I'd be all over the new Gold Nickel but the Tour Chrome just looked too good.

I didn't think the gold nickel was bright at all.... Very faint hardly noticeable IMO....that's in fact the one I ordered 54.14 gold nickel From what I was told the Gold Nickel is the most popular. Supposedly it's the softest as well. Due to being treated with 2 coating of the finish.

got to look at all 3 finishes today. the new tour chrome shines more than the sm4, which was a disappointment. the black finish looked too black, wouldve been better if the grooves section was a little lighter, perhaps like a dark grey. the gold nickel looked great imo, i was really surprised by them, like a lighter oil can.

overall, i love all the different grinds, such variety and prob the best stock selection on the market today.

Did you do anything slightly different than his method. Your wedge looks lighter which I like. Looks great btw
