Ping g700 or g410 irons?

JaketheJack

Recommended Posts

Currently been gaming 718 ap2s which are great clubs. But not necessarily a high launching club. I need something more forgiving and want to launch higher. Not too concerned with distance as I hit it plenty far.

Thoughts on options or any ideas to get them up a bit with more forgiveness ?

My buddy just bought the srixy 585s and they are red hot, but not necessarily a high ball or high spin. They seem to just trampoline off.

G410. Much much better looks. I am an 8 hdcp, was playing Srixon Z785. Wanted more height and a little more forgiveness. So glad I switched. 6, 5 and 4 are sooo much easier to hit. Some of the shots I've hit are just mind blowing to me. Sound and feel have been good as well.

G700 are just too chunky and have too much offset for my eyes.

Ha! Fun thread. I have been playing a combo set of AP1 AP2 (AP1 712 5, 6, 7; AP2 714 8, 9 PW. Sometimes I play the AP2 7-iron in the summer when I am playing well.)

I have bought the following: G700 6-iron, G410 6-iron, i210 7-iron. Right? I might be transitioning to a Ping iron bag.

I will have more to say on this thread in a couple of months, since it is still too cold to hit balls outside. I will have a definite opinion by September! who knows, might stick with the Titleist's. But I am a PIng driver and fairway wood guy. Easy.

I would say the G410 will give you everything you're looking for in a package that is much closer in appearance/feel/sound to your Titleist than the G700.

Currently playing G700 Recoil F3 w/Power Specs. I like the clubs but I am putting them up for sale and switching to the i500's. Our store just received a 7-iron demo of the TM P7TW...WOW...very forgiving but not spending $2400!

I’m with @steelhead on this. I had a set of G700’s and sold them after a month. The performance was OK but I couldn’t get past the clicky sound. I almost got the 410’s but being frugal I went with G400’s as I figured the difference between the two was likely minimal. I am very happy with my choice.

Another vote for G410s. Prefer the look and feel. 410s are quite a bit cheaper too. Another one to try OP might be the HM Pros? Smaller package and seem to get up pretty good for me. A shaft change might help too?

G700 all the way, they look fantastic and make a nice click when you hit the sweet spot. They are very high launching and forgiving. Give them a demo and you will be pleasantly surprised. The Ping 410 are nothing more than a different look Ping 400 so if you want to go that route get the Ping 400, and save some money.

Besides the Pings, you could also look at AP1 - maybe bent a bit weak for more traditional lofts.

What shaft are you hitting in your AP2's.

When it comes to a combination of height and forgiveness, it is hard to beat the G700's. They just want to go high and straight. The G410's are nice as well, but shaft for shaft the G700's fly higher for me.

But if I change the shafts of the G410 to XP95's or Modus 105's then the height becomes comparable to stock G700's with the AWT 2.0 shaft. And the G410's do have a softer feel than the G700's.

Maybe I'm a bit odd but I prefer the look of the G700's over the G410's. I don't like colour in an iron head - black and silver only for me.

The 700's look like big blades to me - once you've played a couple of rounds you get used to the size and feel. It was a tough decision for me between the two but the extra forgiveness and looks (for me) swung me over to the 700's. You can't go wrong with either - AP1's were my third choice.

I have the G700's and really like them. To the posters that speak about the clicky sound - I can agree with this, but it really depends on which ball you play also. I typically play the Chrome soft or the Srixon Z Star. If I use either of the X versions of these, the sound is definitely more pronounced. So much so, that my buddy can tell which ball I am playing by the sound off a par 3. Again - I love the irons and would not change, but they do have a different sound.

G700's produced numbers on par with my expectations, but there was absolutely no way I could get past the overall size and mostly the hollow clink sound at impact, it almost hurt my ears. Tried the G410 irons earlier this year at the KC PGA show, and absolutely loved them. The decrease in offset and blade length doesn't sound like much when reading it, but looking down it is noticeable and very inviting. Sound and feel were both very soft as well.
