Hi-Toe vs Vokey

agood3putt

Recommended Posts

Currently play a 50*/54*/58* wedge setup and looking to see which wedge is the more forgiving of the two? Love my Hi-Toe lob wedge and the Vokeys look and feel great when struck well but want to give myself the club with the largest margin for error on full swings.

I would keep my current setup of 50*/54* in Vokey SM7 and Hi-Toe 58

Or

Go all Hi-Toe in the wedge make up

Thoughts? Also I have tried the Callaway and PING offerings but I’m not a fan

I think Vokey and TM Hi-toe are equal when it comes to forgiveness, in other words, both are blade-like so there isn't much. If you want forgivingness you might check out CB wedges.

I just switched from all Hi-toe setup the other day to a combination of Vokey SM7 and Hi-Toe. I felt like I hit the Hi-Toe went too high in the lower lofted wedges so I was coming up shorter than usual. I never played Vokey before but gave them a try and liked them much better. I love my Hi-Toe 60* though and ain't getting rid of that.

I like the high toe. But I wish it was heavier.

I am assuming that other wedges like the vokey m grind and the Callaway c grind would be comparable in performance?

I moved from a full Vokey SM7 set up to TM milled Grind 50 and High Toe 56 (bend to 55) and 60 ATV Grind. Here are my thoughts

60 High toe is amazing and the ATV Grind is outstanding out of bunkers and with funky green side lies. Will be tougher to learn full shots but the other features vastly out weigh that fact and if u put in the practice u can learn the full shot.

56 High Toe. This is where I initially was worried about the change. I have the 4 way sole and it’s awesome and I absolutely do not regret this change. I find it great for green side chipping and full and half shots.

50 Milled Grind. Not loving this switch I find the wedge a little clunky and my misses are more noticeable. While I won’t go back this season when SM8 launches I may switch this one out

This statement is very accurate and it has to do with the Hi-Rev shaft which you probably won’t like in your 50 and 54. That shaft that works for a 60 though.

Hi-Toe with the stock KBS shaft is 115g. I ordered with a PX 6.5 (125g) and a buddy got it with DG S300 (~130ish g). Made a huge difference for the better if you like heavier wedges.

I also found the Hi Toe to fly lower than Vokeys. Moving from SM6 with the stock shaft my full wedge shots were going straight in the air and it was hard to control the spin. Hi Toes with a heavier stiffer shaft helped me greatly.

Only thing that might (!) give you more forgiveness on full shots is the availability of high bounce options in the lower lofts. If you dont struggle with turf interaction/fat shots, then this might make no difference for your decision

I went from playing Vokeys for years to an all Hi-Toe setup, in stock form I think the Hi-Toes are more forgiving than the Vokeys, partially due to the stock Hi-Rev shafts being lighter than the S200's in the Vokeys. The are also larger at address than the Vokeys. The Hi-Toe's definitely feel lighter to me (maybe partially due to the cutouts in the HiToe heads, and the shafts produce a livelier response than the Vokeys.

Both probably the same forgiveness in terms of miss hits on the face. Pretty blade like on both options.

With the right shaft now, I'm really liking my hi toe 58*. Ball definitely comes out low and has a lot of spin on it. Very easy to 2 hop stop a little 25-30 yard pitch. I'll probably never go back to a traditional wedge again for my lob wedge...And I'd possibly try it in my 54* too.

Are you only interested in those two wedges? The mizuno s18 has some forgiveness and doesn't look hideous (CBX). I love the s18 for full shots.

I'd imagine the glide 3.0 has some built in forgiveness as well.

A bladed wedge is a blades wedge.

Hi toe full shots are as easy as my SM7 in 50 and 55 degrees. You guys are overthinking everything.

My current set up is 50 and 55 SM7 (54 bent weak) and a 60 Hi toe. It’s a great wedge setup and depending on your approach and use of clubs for particular shots along with your amount of play, you shouldn’t notice a difference in anything. In terms of forgiveness, there isn’t much of any in both designs.

If you want forgiveness, look into the the CBX and Glide 3 wedges. You say you’re not a fan but, they are very forgiving and that’s what you’re aiming for.

I like the Hi-Toe ATV better than my vokeys. Wedge shape give me more confidence and the turf interaction is great. I also think the cutouts move the center of gravity higher in the face, producing a more penetrating ball flight.

Depends on the individual and their swing but I found it to be "just amazing". You really should try it for yourself if you get the chance.

Just purchased 56/8 and 60/8 SM7s in brushed steel. Coming from old spin milled Vokeys and love them. Really enjoy the look of the hi toes though...
