What is the best fairway wood in 2020?

Is the best fairway metal in golf the longest? The most forgiving? The best looking? Best sounding and feeling? Some combination of all or some of these attributes?

See our front page feature here.

    How did the Srixon zf85 not make this list? That thing is crazy long and forgiving, not to mention that it’s also way more affordable.

    I can agree with this. The sim rocket is the hottest fairway would I’ve ever hit and yet, so easy to shape while being forgiving. Instant classic. Well done Taylormade!

    The TS2 should be accompanied by the TS3, they're both just as good.

    I’ve been using the f65 for a few years now & it might never leave my bag. Although they are gaining a little more popularity Srixon is without a doubt still the most underrated equipment company from top to bottom.

    • Cobra F9 Speedback (9*) -> Tour AD-TP
    • Srixon Z-F65 (15*) -> Project X HZRDUS Black

    I am very surprised that the Tour Edge Exotics EXS 220 FW did not get more love here. It is a fabulous fairway metal (the EXS Pro is even better for me, but due to its deep face and smaller head it may not be for everyone). I am a Professional Clubfitter, and I get to try virtually all of the current clubs, from drives to wedges and putters. There are many good to great fairway models available currently, but in my opinion the Exotics EXS 220 models are the absolute best of the bunch in terms of distance, forgiveness, and feel.

    Cause its closed at adress. We dont want that. haha. No, but I agree, its a really good fairway but its getting old and Im guessing a new model is about to arrive pretty shortly.

    Thank you for your post about TEE. I absolutely love their clubs. But what about the new pro model. what about as a driver replacement, do you need to have a lot of speed to game it or does my 95-96 club head speed with driver qualify? Also, the 220model, does it have a draw bias or sits closed?

    I am looking at replacing either my 5 wood or 3 wood with a TEE EXS FW. My driver swing speed is about 90 at best. Working on it. I can maybe hit new Cobra F9 10.5 reg shaft driver about 210 total if I catch it.

    Current group:

    1. Yonex Dynastar 3 W 15 deg stiff shaft. This club is 12 years old but when I connect - I bomb it like 200 yards off the deck (mat). Sometimes tricky off the deck.
    2. Callaway - 3w Steelhead III Big Bertha 15 deg with regular shaft. Maybe 180 to 185 at best. I am not gaming this one.
    3. Adams Tight Lies 3 w 16 deg with senior shaft. Maybe 177 yards at best. Bought used for something good off the deck. OK.
    4. Callaway - 5 w Steelhead III with reg or senior shaft. When I hit it well it is about 165 to 170 yards. Okay off the deck.

    I like the EXS FW has grooves like Cobra baffler rails. Hopefully helps off the deck/fairway. If I bought one - EXS 5 wood or 3 Wood - maybe 17 deg 3 wood?? Reg or stiff shaft?

    Pings are the best. Still play the Ping G25 and have tried to change it with the M5 and M6

    SIM and the M series go a mile but aren’t as playable as the Pings in my book

    I really should get in and hit a Sim. Haven't carried a 3 wood the past 2 seasons, but everyone swears by the new Sim.

    -- I've tried them all, and I play TS3 and TS2, but TBH my favorite might be Mavrik. I stick to Titleist woods because they are classic, and the TS line is hot. But the feel of the Mavrik (also with relatively traditional looks at address) was a real standout (both standard and sub zero). If I had been able to test Mavrik with the proper shaft it might have eclipsed TS.

    -- Liked the look of the SIM but not the feel (same as last year).

    -- Hate everything about Ping fairway woods, but I get why some people like them. (They need to be done with the turbulator nonsense already.It looks cheap, gimmicky and dated).

    -- Also liked the Cobra F9 Tour a lot. But footprint with 3w was a little intimidating, and the rails are too deep on the 5w.

    -- Really wanted to like the Mizuno ST line but it never clicked with me.

    Really like the Exotics 220. Great flight and workability from the deck and off the tee. The sound and shape of other 2020 heads may be more preferable but launch and control outweigh that for me. Man, is this thing HOT!
