Dog stole my ball

Teed off, ball went towards a brushy area. Balls lands, bounced a few times and stops. This "thing" runs out of the brush, I wasn't sure if it was a deer, a dog, a coyote, until it got close enough. It went straight to where the ball landed, head goes down, then it ran away. And there was a skunk on the course. Interesting round.

In case you were wondering what you should have done:

Decision 19-1/6 Ball Picked Up or Deflected by Dog on Putting Green After Stroke from Off Green

Q. A ball played from off the green was about a foot from the hole and still in motion when it was moved by a dog to a spot about ten feet from the hole. The ball was either deflected by the dog or the dog picked it up, ran with it and dropped it. What is the ruling?

A. If the ball was deflected, it would be played as it lay, without penalty, from the spot to which it was moved by the dog (Rule 19-1).

If the dog picked up the ball, the player should have placed the ball, without penalty, as near as possible to the spot where the original ball was when the dog picked it up (Rule 19-1a).

Knowledge of the Rules is part of the applied skill set which a player must use to play competitive golf.

Had this happen before. My playing partner and I both hit our drives in the middle of the fairway. A very large labrador retriever ran out, scooped both of our balls, ran into the bunker rolled around happy as could be. The owner came out horrified with a bag of balls the offending lab had stolen in the past week. They had just adopted the felonous pup. We were both laughing to the point of tears when she came towards us offering his bounty! We petted the offender and took a drop at our original location.

Would have adopted the pup if offered as exchange for two Pro V1's! He was a big beautiful lab, extremely friendly doing his normal retrieving!

Take the drop! Thanks for the rekindling the memory!

Some dogs will eat anything. My son’s puppy had surgery yesterday. They found a pair of underwear in his intestines. I never found out if they were boxers or briefs.

Encountered a dog once that wouldn't stop fetching our shots. Had to resort to hitting old balls OB to keep him

busy while we hit our shots.

A neutered pup still angry at the world, perhaps?

Callaway Supersoft yellow

Chupacabra?

From the tee box to where the ball landed was probably 225ish. The way it ran out, it was kind of galloping, it didn't look like a dog. Once it scooped up the ball it ran our direction and once it was close enough I could see it was a dog. A lab.

Sorry to heat it was only a lab, very common (I even have one myself - he's black and named Bogey). A confirmed sighting of the mythical Chupacabra would've made for a much better story.

Played a course in Maryland where I was stationed when I was doing the Navy thing. We had a fox that hung out on 17th fairway that collected balls - it was the darnedest thing!

Crazy that so many have had dogs/Labs steal golf balls. Me and a buddy had hit our approach shots on the green one day when a Boston Terrier that we are familiar with came out to visit and had a Golden Retriever with him. The Golden grabbed my cheap ball and ran circles around the green. I grabbed him and used an old dog training trick to get him to release. (pulled his ear) He dropped the ball and my buddy is hysterically laughing until the Golden runs over and swipes his ProV and runs out of sight! Now I am laughing hysterically! The dog evidently has good taste.

We've got a pretty notorious German shorthair at our course that is always on the lookout for golf balls. She is really good at getting out of her fence and onto the course. She will lay in wait in bushes near the sixth green and dart out and grab your ball right off the green. Fortunately, she just wants to play so if you throw a stick or something she will usually drop the ball and run after the stick. Unfortunately, she now expects you to play with her so you have to keep throwing the stick until you finish the hole. One player in the group has to occupy her while the rest finish up the hole.

Honestly, if I'm having a bad round that little diversion can turn everything around for me.
