Chrome Soft vs. TP5 vs. Z Star vs. ???

I’ve been playing TM Tour Preferred prior generation balls for 3 season, down to my last few boxes. Looking for a good solid ball that does well with driver, iron and around the greens. For some reason, ProV feels little heavy for me off the driver. I never like the ProV’s.

Driver: Ping G400 Max 10.5 Stock Alta (need shaft fitting)
Fairway Wood: Ryoma F5
Hybrid: TaylorMade M6 4H & 6H
Irons: OnOff Kuro 2015 6 - PW
Wedge: Cleveland RTX4 50, 54 and 58
Putter: S.C. GoLo 3
Ball: TaylorMade TP5X

Load up on Z-Stars for $29.99 - such a great ball. There isn't anything it doesn't do well.

Chrome Soft is also a solid choice, but not likely to find them for price point as the Z.

Cobra F7+ - Stiff
Callaway V-Series 3 & 5 wood with Aldila Rouge Silver
Srixon 585 5-AW - Modus 105 Stiff
Ping Glide 2.0 Stealth 53 & 58 Degree
EVNROLL ER5
Srixon XV - Yellow

Get Snell MTB’s. Black is softer. Red is firmer with more green side spin. Hell, Dean Snell invented the ProV1 and the Project a balls (and many more with Titleist and TM). Cannot get better than the guy that invented them and has over 40 patents!!!

Tried all the Snell balls. I didn’t like any of them.

My rankings for these that you mentioned, although I added the CS X as I think it compares well to the Z-star and ProV1...and I added the ProV1 (2017) as I think it is the best of the lot:

ProV1 > Z-star > CSX > Tour B SX >>>>> CS > TP5

There isn't much difference between Pro1 and Z-star...ProV1 maybe a little softer. CS X is a good choice too, but it doesn't bite as well as V1 and z-star. I also like the Tour B XS but it wouldn't supplant v1 or z-star. I've tried so hard to like Chrome Soft over the years, but even the latest version has two issues I just can't overcome...it runs out on chips and pitches and putts too much (although latest version is better in this regard). Just hard to adjust to when many other tour balls don't do that (but I love the feel of it off the putter and wedges).

The TP5 was the worst of the lot IMO...it didn't do anything well in any of the categories I care about. Feel was OK. Distance was not that great. Couldn't stop it around the greens. It didn't take me long to figure out I didn't like this ball.

You needs are too general. ALL tour level balls are "good around the green". Some launch a bit more, a bit less; some spin a bit more, a bit less. Some feel more firm... Some more soft.

The main difference is really going to be the irons. I've tested many balls this year on GCQ and off the wedge they honestly all spin enough, they launch within like 1 to 1.5* of each other. The irons though, I saw massive differences between balls, especially say Chrome Soft X and TP5X. If you want a ball that spins with a wedge but doesn't spin as much off an iron, go TP5X or maybe Srixon XV. If you want a ball that spins more off irons, go Chrome Soft or Chrome Soft X if you've got higher CHS.

Yes I lost some distance but the flight and stopping power were ideal. I don't need to pump my 6i 215... That's unnecessary.

Crazy, thought the Bstone was the weakest of the 3 in performance. Distance and spin control. I tried to love it like Kuch and Tiger but alas no dice

I also found the Bstone BXS to be a bit shorter off the tee. No diff on iron shots, nice feel and spin. soft putting, too.

You do understand your not hitting your 6I 215. One of your shots on that list went that distance. So saying, "I don't need to pump my 6i 215" is not necessary, because you're not. Those are if the most optimal launch conditions to achieve most distance took place - high launch, low spin. That is not what you want with you irons. Stopping power to hold a green is what is important. When you get fit, do you tell your fitter you drive the ball 350 cause one day you had a 75 foot drop with wind at your back, and a down hill landing area on firm conditions with roll out?
