Courses with two 18's

Recommended Posts

Does anyone ever think that for golf to survive we need to get off our Peter Millar high horses, golf etiquette has had its standards jacked up, like these new irons. You will always have people that push the envelope when it Comes to rules. Jeans t shirts doesn’t bother me. Pay your green fees or membership, and follow golf etiquette. We need as many people playing the game as we can get for it to survive.

Funny that later in this thread you talk about etiquette being that you are the one judging people. One of my simple pleasures in life is the occasional cigarette on the course. Does this make me riff-raff? Who cares about my golf knowledge or etiquette or that when I smoke I will purposefully walk behind (or in front of, depending on wind) my playing partners and more often than not on the opposite side of the fairway.

Just an FYI, you should probably look in the mirror. I work on a course and more often than not you are the guy who’s ball marks I am fixing or who’s trash I’m picking up the next morning.

Sorry for back to back posts but the more I read from you the more annoyed I get. Do me a favor, if you ever come play in Oregon please let me know so I can make sure you don’t play my course or any courses my friends work at.

Why don’t you go join a private club and be as much of a doosh (I know it’s spelled wrong) as you want?

Funny isn’t it, how a single issue automatically lumps you into the poor etiquette category? I play with a smoker quite a bit, quite frankly, I never notice it, even when we’re riding together. He’s extremely conscientious about keeping it away. And I’m very sensitive to smoke. Never seen him just toss a butt away on the ground either (fortunately he’s usually got an empty beer can to put it in?). Just a good guy and I’m glad I never said I didn’t want to play with him because he smokes.

MallRat, you can play with Hawkeye and I, you can smoke and we’ll wear jeans. I bet we’ll have a pretty darn good time. We’ll bring @DPelz4 along too, since we know he can tolerate both Hawk and I!

That's hilarious!! Especially since all you did in your original post was judge people! You're right about one thing, you shouldn't judge people for wearing jeans and smoking.

Proper etiquette above all is important. I don't mean to insinuate that everyone who smokes cigarettes or wears a tank top while golfing shouldn't be allowed to play. Maybe OP was worded poorly or didn't have enough info. I'm merely stating some observations I've made of this other shorter course. There is a time and a place for different kinds of golf and I'm thankful this particular course has room to accommodate both. I've also seen courses that feature foot golf and disc golf at the same location, along with a full 18, nothing wrong with that.

I actually live in California, so there. Tell me this, where is the line to be drawn to separate casual golf from the more traditional game?

For example, if you're at the first tee at Pebble Beach and or some fancy resort course, are you wearing jeans and a tank top? Chugging butts and blaring music from your cart?

The line isn't hard to figure out. It's a thing we call common sense here in the Midwest. When it's in the 40's and 50's here in the spring and fall I wear jeans. If I went to Cog Hill or Medinah, or Pebble Beach, I'd wear the appropriate attire. It's really not that hard to find that line. Just because I wear jeans or smoke doesn't make me clueless. Whoever coined the phrase "clothes make the man" was a snobbish idiot.

I would very much disagree with this take on 'clothes make the man.' Certainly fancy clothes doesn't automatically turn someone in a gentlemen, but when you are out in the world, the world sees you. Whether it's on the golf course, at work, an evening out ect. This is a problem I have with adults in general these days. Grown men out in public who are dressed like they're 12. In cargo or basketball shorts, tank tops, flip flops. The daily work that goes into looking like an adult is commendable and used to be a common thing. And people wonder why they're no real men anymore.

You obviously don't live in rural America. And that's cool. Just don't think I'm a idiot because I happen to wear jeans and (HOLY CRAP! ) cargo shorts once in a while.

Once again you are judging people based on their apparel. I used to wear suits everyday but now I work a blue collar job and have never been happier. I would bet money that I have a bigger smile on my face at work every day than anyone you know. I always have a “hello,” time to hold a door open or give random golfers a thumbs up or golf clap for a good shot. But on average I am probably the dirtiest guy most people see on a regular basis. So why are you judging me, because I don’t wash my rain gear but every couple weeks because I’m just going to be in a muddy hole fixing irrigation again tomorrow?

So is my dress worse than smoking? Am I riff raff?

What is the problem with wearing t-shirts and basketball shorts in public? With that logic if you are not wearing Rolex watches and driving a BMW you are not a gentleman. I wear t-shirts around town but have played a lot of world class facilities around the world. Such riff raff!

Haha - now a dig at cargo shorts? A couple of pockets on the outside of the shorts vs. the inside? BFD. Wear 'em almost 100% of the time when it's warm enough - look great, thanks.

You have gotten yourself all over the place in your effort to escape the silly and revealing comments earlier in this thread.

"Keep 'those' people off my course" - I think everyone understands where you are really coming from.

Quit wearing suits to work 6 years ago with a career change - will break one out every now and then for certain occasions, but same here -- smile on my face every single day I go to work!

Just as big of a smile every time I step on a course in my cargo shorts, or jeans or nice golf slacks - whatever is appropriate for the weather, the course and the company.

I thought it was interesting, when I took the $485 dollars out of one of the leg pockets of my cargo shorts the guy working the counter at Pebble Beach didn’t seem too worried about it.

As for etiquette, at one point after I raked my own bunker, our caddie asked why I did that. I told him he was busy in the other side with my playing partner, no reason I couldn’t take care of it. He said that is a rare attitude there.

Good manners and etiquette come wrapped in all kinds of clothing.
