That’s what I was thinking. I still like my 4 iron, but I’m not getting any younger.

I have had a Cobra Baffler Pro 18* in my bag for about 10 years, mainly bc it sets up slightly open. I switched over to the PXG 22* and set to 1.5* lower which opens the face and also play a 3 hybrid length shaft. It launches high and spins just enough to hold greens. The feel and trajectory is where the biggest different is from the Baffler. More loft, yet goes about 3-5 yards farther. Lethal combo for me.

I,m waiting for my 0211 irons to come home to pappa...But I do have 0317 X Gen2 hybrid, the sound , the feel...outstanding, I ordered a Gen2 5-wood today and I'm sure that wood will sound and feel great. I get more distance from my 0317 X Gen 2 than I do from my Ping 410, I would recommend to anyone who needs a hybrid, go with PXG, KaBomb Baby!!!

Finally got my Gen 2 17*. I put the weights in the back and tried it in the flat +1 degree of loft setting so it is playing 2.5* flat and 18* loft. Windy day today and basically all clubs at the range were about 2 clubs shorter than normal so tough to judge distance. This thing was super consistent high launch and left/right dispersion. For me, no left miss inherent in the club at the settings I had. The fuji 2.0 8x shaft is great. I have played Tensei Pro White 90TX in 3 different hybrids and was fit for the Pro White. The fuji pro 2.0 is definitely lighter, but I really liked it. From what I researched, it is soft handle, medium mid-section and stiff tip, which shouldn't be too far off from the Pro White. Probably just a good fit for me, but a good stock choice for those ordering blind from the PXG website. The thing I really like about this club is the look/shape/size. Not too big, not too small, not iron-like, not wood-like. Love the matte finish to gray carbon. It reminds me of a stealth version of the SIM Max. I'll probably play around with the adjustability on a less windy day. The amount of choices in settings is really good, but a little overwhelming.

  • 2 weeks later...

Just received my Gen2 the other day and finally had a range session and quick 9 holes with it last night. I have tried a number of hybrids to try and unseat my Titleist 909h for over the past 10 years (Apex pro, Cally x-forged UT, Ping G400, etc), with nothing able to replace it. I like how the Titleist sat at address, and it just worked for my game for so long. With the PXG sale going on, I decided to order blind, since I knew their hybrids sat a little flatter at address, which I liked. I ordered a 19* with the KBS TGI 80. After one session with it, I think I have a new hybrid firmly in the bag. It looks great at address, feels amazing (has a nice solid “thump at impact), and most importantly, doesn’t want to go hard left if I step on one. I can tell that spin is lower, as it holds its line beautifully into the wind. All straight shots or baby cuts. So far I’m really happy with it. Going a full 18 with it today, hoping to see the same results.

Gamed the gen 2 0317x with a kbs proto 95x shaft. At the time it was a game changer. I never used to get along with hybrids until i gamed the 0317x. Nice mid launch with a controllable flight. Was my 225-235 club. Only issue was that it wasn’t the best out of the rough. Too often I caught a flyer or got caught up in the grass and lost too much distance. Off the tee it was wonderful and off the fairway it performed excellently. Only issue was in the rough. I now game the sim rescue and that v sole really is special. I have no worry going for the green in two even if I’m in the rough. Similar overall performance as the 0317x but a slightly lower flight (probably due to changing into a hzrdus smoke black shaft) but remarkably improved performance out of the rough.

I've owned 0317 Gen 1 since 2016 in 22 and 25 - 22 is in bag - paired with a fit shaft, I find these are brilliant hybrids from anywhere but I especially like mine out of the rough. High mid flight in Tensei CK Pro Red 70

I’m glad you had success with yours out of the rough. For me, the performance out of the rough was poor. So unfortunately had to move on.

Could be the shaft - I play a more active shaft in hybrids for greater height. I experimented with several - the Tensei CK Pro Red 70 is in the 22 and 25. I could hold greens out of the rough with that shaft.

I've also used the GD AD HY Hybrid Shaft in 65g wiith a 19 HY in a TE EX10 - that worked well for me.

Have a few rounds on my Gen 2. Finally kicked out my 915hd. Got it with the Smoke Black shaft, 4 weights moved towards the toe and moved down 1 small -.

Hit it low, high, from the rough, tee or fairway...and its longer than the HD.

All in all, win win! Super solid when you nail it, forgiving enough on those toe strikes too! Probably the most impressive hybrid ive ever hit.

Interesting you say it's longer than the Ping G410. I have one on the way and would love it if I could keep the accuracy of the Ping but add a few yards. Beating the Ping is going to be tough, the G410 hybrids are truly money for me. But hos gonna ho, so we'll see.

I have the Gen 2 in 17 and 19 with tour AD hybrid shafts. They are great. I didn't get along well with the driver and have never hit the irons, but I switched to these after a bunch of years with Callaway Apex. I prefer a smaller profile with a matte finish at address and these look great. They feel fantastic and are forgiving. PXG hit a home run with these.

Finally was able to put my hybrids into play. Previously had, Cally Apex 19 (hook machine), then the G410.

I love the sound, a muted thump. The size of the PXG heads are smaller than the G410 and Apex. The matte black is nice.

I was fitted for these by a PXG mobile fitter. In the fitting these performed very well. I was hitting the 22° as far as my G410 19°, set to 20°. Dispersion was a lot more consistent as well. It translated to the course today. Nice baby draws over and over.

BTW, the PXG fairway wood is a sleeper. It's a rocket launcher, and accurate. Hit 7/7 fairways, only played 9, today only teeing off with 3W & hybrids. First time ever for me.

I have the Gen2 22’ with an Even Flow 6.0 85 HY. I haven’t gamed a hybrid since the 19’ 2017 M2. All I could do was miss left that hybrid and previous models. I dumped it for a 5 wood and that was the best move for me.

I decided to revisit a hybrid this year for a possible 4 iron replacement. The 0311P irons and the Proto X+ driver were winners so I decided to stay with a PXG. I can stand above the ball and not be terrified I am going to miss with a hard left shot. A good swing produces a high draw and I can cut it if needed. I don’t use it a lot at my primary course but it is a winner for me.

Am thinking about swapping out the 4i for the 22 hybrid. I've been playing longer courses recently, and pulling the 4i for a 220-240 par 3 really doesn't feel comfortable. While I've hit the green a few times with that, often its a toe-strike that rolls the final 30 yards, which is functional, but less than ideal.

I'm not sure how my ego at 32 years old would handle a 4 hybrid with the 3 wood and 5 wood and driver... so many head covers...

Well thats a great point @eRod v1.0 - maybe getting a 4H for specific courses with that annoying 230 into green shot could be a good idea. Though again.. that ego...
For those with the PXG hybrid, do you find that it fits the iron-replacement gap well? Or does it act more as a "hit the ball far" club? I see something like the SIM or Mavrik having the goal of just hitting the ball max distance. The 0311T 4i is 22.5*, the 5i is 25, and my F8+ 5W is 19. I'm guessing the 22* 4h would slot in nicely, but only if it acts as a true iron replacement and not max distance sorta thing.

I know where you are coming from as for me, most hybrids are a distance thing. I was fit for mine so I was helped to fill in my gapping. My 22° is great for what I need, as at my club I'm rarely hitting a 215-225 shot. It's either 200-210 or 230+. I would say if you're looking at the PXG hybrid, go get fit to fill your gap or bump up to 25°. Then mess with the lofts. For the price right now, you can't go wrong tinkering.
