Great review Rob and others. Those who were fit for the SLDR, had you been fit for your previous driver on a launch monitor? If so how much did you gain with the SLDR over your current ?

Hit the SLDR today on Trackman, with an hour and a ton of shafts I could have killed spin and picked up ~10 yards I'm sure. If I lived somewhere where the ball actually rolled out for longer than 1 month I would be even more interested. Launch was slightly higher and spin was ~500 RPMS lower with a 12* head vs my 10.5 G25.

I gained 21 yards average. I wasn't specifically fit for my driver, but I had compared it against other on different launch monitors. My opinion would be to find a good fitter and try this thing out. I played 9 holes again yesterday at my home course and this driver is putting me in places I never thought about reaching before.

1700/1751 spin numbers is something I only thought existed in dreams and the land of unicorns.

No it was carrying ~6 yards further too. Not quit apples to apples because my ping is 44.5 and the sldr was 45.5 at least. Ballspeed was the same between the two clubs and spin was all over too but with more time I could have gotten ~500 less on average I'm sure putting me in the 2500 range. Didn't kill as much spin as I thought it would but it was a 12* head too.

Another interesting note as I look over the numbers. Smash with mine on 3 swings was 1.49, 1.5, 1.51. 4 good swings with the SLDR was 1.46X3 and 1.50. How did so many of the participants see such huge increases in smash? You'd think you know how to center up your own gamer ya know?

Did you hit the SLDR enough to gage forgiveness? And how much carry is necessary for you to justify a switch?

Tough to say. The 12* head looks funny on the ground because its so much loft. Even on the 1.46 smash swings it was still carrying 249-250 (seriously between 249.2 and 250.1) so thats consistent. I would need to get it on the course to say for sure though, hopefully my club carries some demos and I will try them out shortly when we open. I hit it with a DI and a TS which is what I switch between in the Ping. The landing angle looks better too, the more I type the more I've got the itch to do a full fitting for it. I'll copy the best swings below for you to take a look at, actually gained 8 yards of carry looking it over now.

I've got a devotion sitting around too I should hold onto.

To answer your question about what it would take me to change, I'd pay full price with shaft for another 10 yards if the consistency was there. I play state AM events but I'm almost 30 and have never been as long as my peers so more distance would be huge. Driving accuracy is probably the worst part of my game unfortunately so I'd notice if the SLDR was bad in that regard. For 20 yards I'd sacrifice some of my already poor accuracy, which is probably doable with the right head/shaft looking at the numbers. It was certainly flying straight today at least.

Looking at some of the fittings that are closest to my numbers I would love to try a 12* 430 or 460 with either a Kiyoshi Gold or Ad-DI6s but those will both be in the 800.00 range. I would have to see massive gains to pay that much for a driver. I know some of you guys saw some big increases but I would have to see at least a 20 yard increase to justify putting out that much $$$$$ and regardless of everyones success there is no way I can see myself getting another 20 yards over where I'm driving the ball right now.

But is that not the same for whatever driver you are getting fit for? Any OEM driver with a exotic shaft is going to run you a ton of money. I totally understand the price issue, Im the same way and wouldnt have felt the justification even with my 27 yard gain to drop upwards of 1k on a driver. Its the same difference of people being able to put with a 100 dollar odyssey but getting a 350 Cameron.

I think the key here is to focus on the results people were getting as that was the point of the event.....and not really cutting it into details like price etc. Nobody claimed it was going to be cheap if you pimped out a SLDR, but the fact that it outperformed 98% of every driver that it was up against speaks for itself.

"regardless of everyones success there is no way I can see myself getting another 20 yards over where I'm driving the ball right now."
What is there to get? If you try a SLDR and don't get 20 yards over your gamer, and that is what it would take for you to upgrade, then don't buy the SLDR, it's that simple. However, I don't really see the point in anyone assuming whether or not they'd improve by a certain amount, because such things can be readily tested.

Also, for those bringing up that people might not have been perfectly fit beforehand, that is true, BUT that fact comes with a BIG caveat that most of you all are conveniently ignoring: There were people on this trip who had been professionally fit and were certainly not using stock clubs. Someone was even fit for their R1 at Hot Stix. So, if you want to throw out every result for people who weren't properly fit beforehand, then fine, but you are still left with some people who were fit going into it, already had exotic shafts, and STILL gained yards. So, what is the explanation for the gains of those who were fit beforehand? Certainly, the same reasoning of, "well anyone who gets fit and gets to try all the shafts would gain yards with anything" does NOT apply to people already fit at Hot Stix, right?

All valid points and I'm not denying all the successes on the trip. I just almost know that in MY case I'm hitting it farther right now than I have since I was in my 20's and that was a long time ago. I sometimes get to my ball and almost cant believe where it is and with a bum shoulder and hip, and a handful of Alleve to boot. Not tooting my own horn at all here and I'm nowhere near a lot of you guys. I don't know, maybe after 12 drivers in the last 12 months, I just stumbled on that "magic" set-up that is just right for me. Maybe if I find a demo day that has the 2 shafts I'd like to try and I see results like the majority of you guys had I would believe. Again I am speaking only for myself, I just don't see it being physically possible.

And the cost of my current gamer included an exotic shaft at no upcharge. If I were to see with my own eyes a 20 yard increase would I bite the bullet and pay 800.00+ for a driver? Possible.

I hear what you are saying and that makes sense and to be honest I would have thought the same, and did quite frankly prior to me coming on the trip. But watching with my own eyes each guy hit, the distance gain is real. I think that was the point of the event with Taylormade, they are willing to back their product to ridiculous degrees because they were so confident in it....and as we saw here it is legit.

Thanks for the insight Bubba, My Dad always used to tell me "son, believe half of what you hear and all of what you see" Well for all you guys that were there you absolutely saw it and all of us can too. For that this has been a great WRX event and a great thread to follow. Congrats to you all!!

Thanks man!

Agreed on that, I was just as skeptical about it all until I saw it with my eyes. I say anybody that is still not sure or wants to see it themselves, to go for it and check it out and see what happens.

I totally get the price hurdle as well, had I not have had the opportunity of being selected there is probably a low chance I would buy a brand new stock SLDR (or other top of the line driver) let alone custom fit with tour shafts. Its just not feasible for me to justify an expense like that usually, but that doesnt mean the results arent true or obtainable.

I think Benny Franklin said, "Believe none of what you hear and only half of what you see."

I'm convinced that tembolo had a rocket launcher instead of the SLDR for his monster drives and numbers and I was standing right behind them as it happened!

I played a round this afternoon with my SLDR at my old course. It was about 20 degrees cooler today than at my Reynolds fitting. To be honest, I don't think I was any longer than I normally am this time of year. But I did play 9 holes with a friend who is about my same distance or 5 or 6 yards longer, and I was close to 10 by him all day. The wet track meant that I'm still playing the how far can you fly it game in the spring, and several balls backed up.

One things for sure you can't hit this driver right if you tried, it just wants to go left, and I still have a toe snap hook if I get quick with it. But dispersion is better and this club just wants to hit fairways.
