Chrome Soft

my proshop gave me a box of the 2016 two dot chrome soft..i played 18 yeaterday and shot 74 with them...to say im stoked is an understatement... best ball off the putter and a wedge I have EVER hit...reminds me of balata.... with driver I cant see any distance loss over prov 1x.... My home course greens are Bermuda and shagy this time of year and I got so much better roll with this ball that I cant even belive it.. I hit around 10 putts side by side with the pro v 1x so a direct comparison for sure.... I didn't even now tey were new until this thread this morning... my pro just said "here...your a die hard prov guy....test these for me" he must have got them from the rep to test.... anyone know when they go on sale?

I want to say it will be around the 1st of February, but I can't remember exactly.

I found the putter feel was weird... if I hit a TPx and V1x and a Chrome Soft at the same distance the CS goes way further = bad for my dodgy putting

I found the exact same thing..BUT it works if your on hairy slow Bermuda during winter.... now something slick In summer may prove difficult..but I bet I could adjust..to me the less I have to swing the putter the better.. short stroke equals pure stroke more often

thanks...im going to try to bribe my pro to get me another box if he has or can get one to tide me over till then... I really think this ball may be for me... practiced all afternoon today and I hit several irons with them and consistently longer and very accurate.... ball really jumps off the face for me... but yet spin is same or more around the greens.... so far im a big fan

Yeah, there were a few things about the original that made me prefer the SR3. The original CS was WAY too lively off the putter face, it was too soft off irons making everything feel like a flyer and distance control was an issue, and it didn't spin as much near the green as I would like. From what I've experienced with the * proto version of the 2016 ball, all those issues have been improved and if the retail ball spins even more around the green then it's going to be just about perfect.

I've been playing the CS in cooler temps (45-60) and they have been great. I didn't care for them in the summer as they felt too soft off the putter and driver for my taste.

 

They really shine as a cool/cold weather ball.

So what do I do with the four boxes of the 2015 CS that I have if the 2016 is that much better. As much as I am hard on myself when it comes to my game. I couldn't lose four boxes worth of balls if I tried.

If you like them, keep playing them. It's not that the 2016 ball is somehow universally better for everyone. It's just slightly different in some ways that make it a better fit for some guys who didn't like the original as much.

I think my goal for 2016 will be to get my swing speed to a point where I can complain about the Chrome Soft is not a good ball for me.

So I conned 6 more 2016 chrome softs off my pro this morning ... He said he would have some in stock by the end of the month. Wasn't sure when they launched, but that he would let me know when he had a box or 2 for sale. Can't wait to play it again. Really love the ball off the putter.

It was 0 F here this morning but the optimistic weather report says 40F and dry at 1pm so I am going out for a round and will play a 2 ball with a Chrome and TPx, both pre-heated and see if I can solve the putting dilemma..... I prefer a more muted ball off the putter so I can long swing her

I am exactly the same with putting, I like stroking the putter instead of having to bash the ball. I rarely play on fast greens, so I appreciate a ball that gets a little more roll out, it suits my putting style. I also prefer a soft feel off the putter face.

I love that course. I used to play it regularly when it was TPC, before I moved to Richmond about 12 years ago.

 

I did get to play it this past summer and it was is great shape.

I'd give them a try...chrome+ was long for me, but couldn't find them in yellow...went to pinn gold...but for the added spin, cs+, if as long as c+ was for me, could be an option...

I love the CS, have been playing it since January last year...I cannot wait for the X to come out, I wouldn't mind a bit firmer...

The new Chrome Soft will be a bit firmer, but unless Callaway has changed their plan the X version will not be coming to retail.

I play the Pro V1 over the X just because it's a bit softer feeling off the face, especially the putter. I'll certainly try the new Chrome Soft* when it's out for retail. I agree that the first gen is just too soft off the putter and I had some distance problems.
