I am now six rounds into my CS 16 (usually only play prov1). And I love them. I love prov1 as well so for me it is almost a tie.

I am not pro enough to say I have gained massive spin on wedge shots etc. they behave pretty much the same as the prov1 for me. I really like them and I will game these and the prov1. I hit my irons quite long (I play the apex CF 16 non-pro version but adjusted lofts to the same as pro version) and I have no problem shaping shots when I need, hitting a baby draw or fade. Feel wice it is pretty close, maybe the prov1 is a tad tad softer but if I were to play the balls blindfolded I doubt I could really tell the difference.

I think the balls are pretty much same same for most of the average players down to low single digit HCP. But then again, I have realized that there is nobody on this planet as picky and "pro-on-paper" as us golfwrx members :)

I was getting low on my ProV1x so I decided to buy a dozen Chrome Soft ( Yellow) thought I'd try a colored ball too! 1st time on the course with them today. I can't say enough about how good these feel off the putter, wedges and irons, feels a bit soft off the woods but no distance lost, distance control is excellent, no issues with flighting the ball. Need to add, my daughter got to witness my hole in one too, I think i'll be gaming these for a while. :)

Officially made the switch. The ball does what I need and all the optic options are extremely helpful. They are in the bag for this season.

On Saturday I played the first round, in an event with the Chrome Soft instead of the usual TM Lethal ball. The distance on full swing shots was comparable but there were two areas where it was different. My normal flight is high and nearly every club in the bag, including hybrids, will stop within a few yards of the pitch mark. Even with wedges struck crisply from the fairway, the ball would release at least 15-20 feet.

With the lower compression, it definitely would take time to get used to it greenside. Most putts were left short as were chips. It just felt squishy coming off the club face.

I can see in time that it could be a solid ball once you got used to it but it made me go on Amazon and find some Lethals.

Thoughts on ChromeSoft vs SuperSoft? I've had the SuperSoft this season (I'm not a fantastic ball striker, and I'm looking for less spin off the tee), but once I get into the shorter irons to wedges I'm pretty consistent, and I've noticed on anything less than 170 yards that I have trouble stopping the ball. This is most noticeable with those 30-50 yard pitches/chips/lobs to try and get to stop hard or hold up and not roll out. Supersoft has been great, but I wonder if Chromesoft would be even better?

two different balls, SS is a straight ball, less feel, no green side spin. CS feels better is straight and has greenside spin - 18-20 price difference.

My club received a few thousand chrome soft test balls from Callaway Golf. The balls are labeled "practice". The printing is black on some balls and blue on others. Our pro told us that we will be using them on our range for a few months, then Callaway will retrieve them and test them. We've been encouraged to take a few onto our golf course and play a round or two with each color, then give feedback. My guess is the covers are different on the two varieties. I have played a couple of rounds with each ball and find both fly lower than my Pro V1X. Both feel much softer than the Titleist and release a little more on full shots into the green. Carry yardage is similar or a little shorter than the Titleist. The blue colored ball spins quite well on chip shots and full pitches. Better than the Pro V1X. The black ball does not grab on the chips as well as the blue Callaway. Overall, both balls perform well and will find a market.

Our pro has led us to believe that these balls are prototypes for the 2017 version of the Callaway Chrome Soft golf ball.

For what it's worth, that's what's happening at our club this summer.

No issues like that for me, opposite in fact!

I agree with jjr

I've recently gone from the ProV1x to the Chrome Soft (2016) and played about 6 or 7 rounds with them so far. They stop just fine on well struck short irons; certainly don't release 15-20 feet.

ProV1x may stop a tad quicker but the difference is negligible.

I played a round with the new Chrome Soft yesterday, and was very impressed. I normally play RZN Black. The CS felt great off the clubs, was long, and had nice controllable spin. The issue i had with the RZN balls, was the spin was inconsistent. Only one round so far, but looking very promising.

I played the RZN Blacks last year and now play the 2016 CS. I had similar issues. The RZN Black seemed more of a bump and run type of ball around the greens. Off the tee, I thought the RZN Black might have been a little longer, but not by much. I ended making the switch to the CS due to feel (especially off the putter) and greenside performance. Good Luck with your decision.

As a usual player of the Snell MTB, I bought a dozen CS to try after putting several times this week with it at different golf stores when demoing putters. Man it felt so good, especially off the Seemore I kept demo'ing (and purchased).

I just hope is doesn't spin too much off the driver.

I play the yellow version most of the time and I also play the Truvis- just depends on the time of day and the weather. I find the Truvis to be easy to identify, especially around the Spring/Fall season when the course is not quite as green or when a course is burnt. In my experience, it did not appear any bigger from the yellow ball or the standard white version. It is nice to see the amount of spin on short shots (chips and short pitches) from around the green and the roll off the putter.

I suffer from really bad eye allergies from time to time, so having all of the optic versions of this ball helps when my allergies get a bit out of hand. A random benefit is that my kids love that it looks like a miniature football (soccer) ball. It gets them excited to play and practice with me on the putting green. Overall, I like it. Hope that helps.

Good stuff. That is pretty cool that it helps with allergies. I think Callaway would like to hear that feedback. I am being serious by the way. Anything that can help us enjoy the game more is a plus. Now getting your kids to want to practice is down right good stuff!!!

I'm playing it, the yellow one. See it just fine in the air.

Tried the white one too (with red) but can't see that one as well in flight.

So this ball is clearly all the rage on here....

...how is it on durability vs a Pro V1x?

As good, if not better. I played 36 with the same ball, looks like new.

Bought a sleeve of CS Truvis white/red last week as I need to purchase some new balls pretty soon.

Loved it for everything but putting(only tlking visual stuff, not performance) The Truvis pattern seemed to distract me quite a bit as I usually would use a line on the ball for alignement. Certainly something that just needs some getting used to for me but it made me hesitate a bit
