Ping i-e Irons?

It's seems like vcog is a big part of the mpf calculation and where the ie1 and i25 score lower. And for a lot of players that vcog difference won't really translate into any noticeable loss of forgiveness. Some might actually prefer it. I agree that MOI is the bigger forgiveness factor.

Interesting that ping kept the same head weight even when lengthening the shaft (bumping up swing weight slightly). It does allow people to basically get the same fitting as they had on i25 if they go -1/4 and same color code.

I wonder what the difference will be in the shorter irons now that the tungsten in the toe is gone. MPF uses a 6iron I think so those numbers are with the tungsten.

Yes, wasn't happy to see the removal of tungsten in the short irons. Maybe it doesn't make a huge difference, but I can't help but think it was done simply for cost-cutting.

Ping doesn't seem to be a company that makes cost cutting decisions if it effects quality of play of their clubs.

Of course they do, maybe only marginally. But all OEMs make cost-cutting decisions. I'd expect they'd say they difference was small/unecessary for the short irons, but that doesn't mean cost wasn't some element. Ping once touted their USA manufacturing facilities as a plus, until they couldn't afford it anymore. I'm still in the boat of giving ping the benefit of the doubt over many other OEMs as far as putting quality first, but that doesn't mean cost isn't a big factor in their decisions.

Quality first, don't flatter yourselves. I've had issues with their i25 driver and their hybrids. I have seen a few off the rack iron sets with misapplied paint and slightly unaligned grips. Many have reported of other discrepancies. You guys talk about Ping like they're some boutique goddess without an assembly line of casual workers. They're an OEM, and their branding and place in the industry have clouded the realistic judgement of many.

They're in at Drummond golf in Australia. $200 an iron. Wooow. That's seriously out there. Last set of irons I bought was the tm tour preferreds 4-Pw at around $900. 4-Uw is still going to come out at over $1500. That's nuts!!
That exchange rate is kicking your backside lately.
We have the same problem here in Canada. $1,300 for a set plus 13% tax. 714 AP2s are $1,200. 716s will be $1,600?!?!

The short clubs don't need tungsten to get the weight distribution Ping desires. It's not cost cutting, it's called smart design. And Ping isn't the only company doing this when using tungsten.

Doubt it. Ping...like many others is trying to make the scoring clubs more playable. You don't want tungsten in the toe of your sand wedge do you???

I was just fit for these today at Club Champion Philly. Just want to say what an awesome experience Club Champion is, definitely worth every penny!

I am coming from the I20's. Turns out my specs were TERRIBLY off from what I thought I was playing. They felt noticeably softer than my I20's.
I hit multiple shafts: S400, KBS C Taper, Nippon Modus 105, Project X 6.0. I ended up going with the C-Taper Stiff +

Here are some numbers from 10 shots with each 6 iron:

Club Speed Ball Speed Smash Launch Spin Landing Angle Height Carry Total
I20 95.3 131.6 1.38 15.5 6403 48.7 108.9 189.5 196.1
E1 96.8 138 1.43 13 5577 46 103.7 204.5 214.2

I gained one full club length! Pumped about that!
I cant wait to get these in and tear it up this fall season!

Got 9 holes in with mine 4-u project x 6.0 and although played a short course got to hit 4,5,8,9,u irons and great turf interaction and point and shoot, I was putting and driving and chipping well for once and shot 2 over. Felt incredible coming from s55 with kbs.

When did you receive your irons? I'm still waiting on my PX 6.0 4-PW that I ordered (and paid for!) back on July 18th, and all I've heard is "by the end of the month."

Have two rounds under my belt with the Modus 105's. Definitely a different animal than I've ever played. Hit the ball noticeably higher but still quite piercing. Because the weight is so low, it's more difficult to achieve a higher swing weight, but that may not be an issue for some that prefer that feel.

Finally got Ping to acknowledge that D3 was possible with the 105's. What SW are you at?

What shaft did you play before?

I have always played the DG S300 in my previous irons. I hit the Modus 105's at DSG's a few weeks and they felt really good. Better than the other options. I currently play 712 AP2's, but I really like the looks and forgiveness of the i E1.

I'm getting fit this Sunday at Man O'War golf in Lexington and can't wait to see how these perform in real conditions.

Wow, those are impressive gains. As someone who loves their i20s, I was kind of hoping to see only minimal improvements from switching to iE1s so I didn't have to go buy them, but this has me intrigued. Are there any other i20 players who have seen similar results going from i20s to iE1s?

i20 player here. My i's are coming tomorrow, and it is like Christmas eve here for me. Got fit at Cool Clubs with outdoor ball flight. Carry yardage was 10 longer than current set, total yardage 11 more yards per club. I have played i20's since initial release, but I really feel these will outperform them ten fold.

I literally am more excited than Christmas actually.

They are definitely a different feel from anything that I have hit before. Other than stock CFS shafts this is the first time that I have hit any other shafts. I liked the Nippon the best next to the C-Tapers that I ended up ordering. Very smooth feel but just got a couple better numbers with the C-Tapers. I would definitely recommend them over the other "stock" offerings

Thinking about getting fit for the i's in the next couple weeks. Was considering a couple different fitters including a Cool Clubs location. Which Cool Clubs did you get fit at and can you tell me about the Cool Club's experience and your thoughts on it?

Haven't heard much on this thread regarding the true temper XP 95 shafts. Tested these against the modus 105's and they launched slightly lower with more distance (at least for me) so went with these. Going from i20's and i25's and can't stress enough just how good these look and feel compared to its predecessors. Ping's got a winner here!

For the numbers nerds (like me); I asked on the forums of the new Maltby site about the iE1s. Here's what they measured:

"The preliminary numbers on the Ping I E1 iron are .832 vertical cg, C-Dim 1.357, RCOG .463, MOI 14.2650"

The final MPF number is 570 pts.

The MOI is very impressive for a compact iron.

Just in case some of you are interested.

Cheers.
I also saw the GMAX irons had a MPF of like 940. Yowza.

As far as the practical implications, Im still torn. The analytical side of me WANTS the ie1 to have a higher MPF than the S series and also the AP2 and similar irons to reconcile what I feel when I hit them and the i25, i20, etc. The i series feels and seems way more forgiving on the monitor but the MPF says otherwise.
If you pay attention to MPF as a guide at all, you're already lost... MPF tries to be analytical, but it just doesn't hold up. The methodology is relatively sound, but the results just don't hold up to those of us not playing "on paper".

14 Pings. Blueprints are incredibly good. Fetch is the most underrated putter on the market. Don't @ me.
