The uneven speed of greens are what I putt on every weekend. With that being said, when I saw the worm cams on putts, the problem is the balls wobble to the hole. That's what's bad about them. You have to hit and hope it holds the line. You can see the unevenness in the grass when they use a worm cam.

Thank´s God!! Thought I was the only one who saw the ball dancing to the hole

Sergio needs to understand it doesn't matter. He is playing the same course as all the other players. They are all playing the same greens. It is what it is. He needs to get over it.

The greens are bumpy and inconsistent. But... the first rule of golf is... play the course as you find it. It's not like they're bumpy for Sergio and not bumpy for Stenson. This is what you get with this type of grass.
The rule is play the ball as you find it actually.

The thing with bad greens, it will only ever knock a good put offline and a bad putt online - so it's a bit of a joke. When our greens are bad you can see the higher handicappers score better and the better players score worse.

Sergio is right in his opinion, maybe better off not airing it, but still right.
Brandel is certainly backing him and all the GC crew admit the players are
unhappy with the putting surfaces. I would love o hear Rory's prtvate
thoughts on this, some of his putts looked like Steph Curry was dribbling
them to the hole.
My thoughts - Course itself A+, putting surfaces D.

No win situation for Sergio. He voices his dissatisfaction and is instantly criticized for being a whiner; granted, he hasn't done himself any favors from his past antics.

Personally, I'd rather hear this type of opinion rather than the canned responses we are accustom to.

Sergio is also going to be on pg 1 of the leaderboard by Sunday.

When is Sergio happy?

For someone in such a privileged position, earning money playing the game he's supposed to love, he acts like a teenage girl and gives the impression that he'd rather be anywhere other than on the course. Honestly, I wish he would quit.

I actually feel like Sergio looks like one of the happier guys out there (atleast in recent years). He's been in contention and, when falling short, he still gives interviews and seems in good spirits.

Bubba on the other hand. . .

Hey! Give the super a break...he couldn't re-schedule the green aeration...had to do it last week.
Paul

The Super should never be held accountable in a situation like this, he didn't pick
the grass to begin with and the USGA advises him on the maintanence.

I agree with Sergio - the US deserves better for its Open. Course conditions shouldn't be such that the game can, and likely will, be decided by chance. The green conditions are deplorable and the course itself is a poor layout. Good shots may, or may not, be rewarded. On this course it is reasonable to say a wonderful day of ball striking and putting can be rewarded with an overpar round purely by chance if the "breaks" don't go your way. This may be true to a minor extent in other venues, but here it can send someone home. I'm a fan of Whistling Straights and the whole collection of courses at Bandon Dunes, but Chambers Bay is a definite miss.

If the greens you play are that bad you should switch courses.

Does the NFL play their games on a high school field? MLB? The NBA on a cement court? NHL on a frozen farm pond? This is inexcusable and Davis should lose his position for signing up a course at 8 months old for the national championship. Even worse the USGA didn't demand that the greens be replaced with something somewhat closer to what we actually do play on. I can drive 20 miles in any direction and find multiple courses with better greens to play on for under $50 that would make a better test of who the best and not the luckiest golfer is currently.

Isn't this the same guy who spit in a cup and said he would never win a major?

He's damaged goods and just trying to justify his bad play by blaming it on something other than himself.
No he's calling a spade a spade as much of the field is in more diplomatic ways.

I'm on like my tenth hour of coverage today and I don't think I've seen a single putt really knocked off line. They're very fast downhill and really slow up, but the best players in the world should be able to figure that out.

No, they don't look good, but solidly hit putts go in and weak, tentative ones don't.

If you're going to tweet this kind of stuff, you should probably just go home. By tomorrow they'll be heckling him with "crybaby", and he'll be throwing hard looks at the crowd and it'll get ugly.

When the greens are crappy, as usual, at the British, not one European will open his mouth.
Open championship greens are not "crappy", they are generally a bit slower than the top pros are used to, however they have to be that way because of the wind that blows across these courses. Shave them down to 12+ on the stimp meter and watch those balls moving all over the greens by themselves.

Having actually read Sergio's post, it came across to me not so much as a complaint as an opinion - one that is shared by most if not all the field. Haven't read anyone come out and say how fantastic the greens are.

If posters on here want to use that to bash a guy they don't care for then that's fair enough. Sergio shot level par and is T26 at the moment, so it's not like he shot 80 and is out of it already.

I agree with everything Sergio tweeted. Read what he actually said instead of what you heard or think he said

sergio is on the money. the us open does deserve better than these crap greens. i kinda feel sorry for the tax payers that got roped on this deal, because this course will be a sand pit again in 10 years

I watched 10+ hours today and while the greens did not look great, I did not see putts bouncing off line and they seem to roll pretty dang true. Several guys, Michelson included, commented that the 2 to 3 foot putts were the toughest because you had to commit to the putt and hit it.
Sergio...well he didn't like Augusta either. So what. I think any player who gets the mindset that there is something wrong with the course that everyone else is playing has just about killed his chances of winning.
You must have been watching different coverage than I did. I saw almost every putt as it slowed down bouncing all over the place. They had slow-motion of several putts bouncing. Norman mentioned the putts bouncing several times. Even the leaders and those playing well mentioned that the greens were bumpy and the putts were bouncing (Johnson, Mickelson, and Spieth all mentioned it), especially in the afternoon.

In fear of being flamed here, I offer my opinion.

Firstly, I am NOT a Sergio fan!! And I am not a "twitter" fan!!

However, we live in a social media microwave society. I am not comparing twitter to the some of the greatest inventions of the 20th century, but if you read history, there was much controversy over "telephone etiquette" after it's invention. The reality is twitter is a different communication media, albeit a "mass media" communication rather than one on one.

After reading the actual twitter feed, Sergio voiced his opinion and it is one shared by many of the golfers playing this week. Agree or disagree...it is HIS opinion.

With that said, my opinion is there has to be better options for a tournament of this historical magnitude.
