New Wilson 50 Elite.

Minarets

Recommended Posts

For anyone looking, GT has them 2 (12 packs) for $26.99 right now. Orange, Yellow, White, in stock.

I grabbed another 2 dozen as these are my favourite cheap balls (until I can get my hands on those cursed Kirklands!). Hard to find a better performing ball for the price, especially up here in Canada where everything costs a fortune.

I stocked up at the PGA store when GT was having a tough time stocking balls. I have one box left after buying all the colours for fun. Great ball.

Did you pick up at one of the local stores? North van or richmond

I'm still gaming them. I've been swapping around between this and a chromesoft truvis and I don't see a load of difference in the ball beyond the price (and I like the soccer ball look).

I've got Wilson Elite 50's in white, pink, yellow, and orange and I just swap around when I'm bored or if a colour is better. Overcast days yellow and orange work well... pink if I want to mess with my playing partners head, or white for most normal times.

Hard to find a better ball for the money.

I am still gaming the 50 off and on mixing it in with the Bridgestone B330RXS. The 50 is a great ball, I don't see any drop off in scoring with it and it simply does what I expect from it.

Can I ask why bother with the Bridgestones in that case given the price difference?

With the greens as hard as they have been the Bridgestone B330RXs provides better stopping power. We can play pretty much year round here in CO with brief periods of interruption, but we have to adapt to continuously changing conditions. The temps can have huge swings we had close to 80deg days here in March only to get snow the next day. I play the 50 to hit and roll and if the greens are at all receptive it does just fine, if they are not the Bridgestone is a better choice. Its all about the greens through the winter into early spring here off the tee I could play the 50 without pause. The price of the 50 is about half that of the Bridgestone I picked up 6 dozen Bridgestone B330RXS last year for $24.00 a dozen and I am on my second sleeve of my first dozen.

What are AD333's???

They are/were the Q stars everywhere else besides the US.

The chromesoft stops or spins back for me but I have to play for runout on the Elite 50. The feel pretty similar on a full strike but the behavior is definitely different for me.

I'm not sure about that. I used a dozen AD333 last time I was in UK and it seemed like what is called the Soft Feel back home, not a Q-Star.

Ive had great success with these. I could never say anything bad about the Wilson 50 though. If you are up in the air about a ball, the Wilson is a great option.

  • 2 weeks later...

Put this ball into play for the last 3 holes yesterday. Wow I forgot how awesome this ball is. Yes it won't spin like a prov but gosh it feels so soft and awesome off the irons and putter. Maybe it was mental but I was hitting everything at least 5-10 more than I normally would. Hit into a par 4 with my 9i (normally 125) which had apin 123 yards in. Ended up on the fringe past the hole which was at least 10 yards past the hole, and I didn't hit it thin either.

If it didn't feel like a pancake off my driver, I'd honestly put the ball into play a lot more. I just hate the feeling of a mega low compression ball when it compresses that much. Otherwise off the mid and shorter irons... The best.

Snagged 2 DDZ. for $50 this week. I'm set for the yr. :)

Same here, ya can't beat that deal. 48 balls for $50 :)

Sure you can beat that deal. About two years ago, Kohl's department store (yep, Kohl's) had these for like $7.99 a dozen on clearance. I then used a 30% off coupon and snagged these for about $5.60 a dozen. I cleaned out a few different Kohl's and stocked up with 25-30 dozen. Set for years :)

I didn't get that many but was able to find about 10 doz for $3.99 ea. That was the best deal I have ever gotten, maybe on anything.

I did the Kohl's thing a couple times. It was nice when they were listed under the men's accessories clearance. you could use the 30% off and the extra 20% off men's accessories. I stocked up that day.

Through the first 12 rounds this year I hadn't lost a ball (Wilson 50s) so I decided I'd treat myself and try something new and colourful.... enter the Volvik Vivid.

In my first 9 holes I lost 2... lost 8 in total since then. While they play similar to the 50 I find they don't perform nearly as well. The 50 is just perfect for my game!

I need to lose the rest of these balls and I'm never paying $40 for a dozen balls again!

And since Golf Town has the double dozen in pink and I don't need to worry about anyone picking up my ball either!

Love the look of the Vivids, but like you said, not @ $40/dz.
