Jones Bag Users

Recommended Posts

  • 2 months later...

OK Jones users, I am a SunMountain stand bag user currently and have been thinking about picking up a Jones bag. I carry 12 clubs at the most, sometimes 9. I am debating between a nylon bag and the waxed canvas. Per the website it only looks like a .4 lb difference. Will the waxed canvas have better water resistance for those wet mornings, or is just a difference in looks? I was looking at the players and the original

I would have to say almost certainly yes ... it would be hard to be worse than the Original, which is pretty much at the opposite end of the waterproof scale from goretex. I love my Original, but if it is going to be wet, I put everything I want to keep dry in a Dry Bag inside the main pocket :)

Thanks Blade Junkie, hopefully someone with a waxed canvas can chime in on how they do on wet grass. So are these the main difference between the original and the player series: 1. player has s support rod 2. player has 2 spaces vs 3 on the top 3. the one pocket has a drink and iPhone holder?

I have been on their site but without seeing them in person, I am just wondering on the main differences for $20 between the Original and the Players, and then it looks like another $90 for waxed canvas?

thanks

When you say that nothing can be worse than the"original" is that the all vinyl bag or the nylon bag with vinyl accents? Just curious as I am really torn on the Jones bag line up of carry bags. I am trying to decide if I like would like the all vinyl, nylon or waxed version the best. I think I am leaning towards a players bag vs the original, but there are not as many options available in colors.

I want to get one so bad... but i just dont think they are practical. I play early morning in a very dewwwy course and dont want to worry about my things getting soaked. or worry about having to look for a dry spot near the green..

also heard they have a great holliday sale... so maybe be on the lookout?

I have one, and it stays in my garage because I play early, and it does get wet. Also, my towel gets wet, and hits the back of my pants and soaks them. A good bag, but not practical for me.

For those who are concerned about the bag and contents getting wet, I found that if you treat it with a waterproof spray, it works great. Things stay dry and as a bonus it keeps it from staining. I've played in dewey conditions with it and have never had an issue. I absolutely love my players series. Going to order an original with the black friday deal.

Good idea on the spray. I think I am going to pull the trigger but I am really torn between the players and the original. the players is limited on colors, but I like the internal spine and the water bottle holder so I am leaning that way. I wish I had a better understanding of the differences between 660 nylon and 1260 nylon on the players bag, #10 Duck Water Repellent Canvas in the players and the 13.54oz Martexin Original Wax Army Duck "Plain Weave in the Original bag. I'm sure they are work fine but it would be nice to know if the players bag is a waxed canvas but just called Duck (maybe this is just a trade name on the material?). I probably should just go for the nylon players and call it day, spray the bag, and if I really like it then go for the "waxed" version later.

I spoke with Jones Co, very helpful guy. I'll input the details as I remember:

- the 1260 nylon players 1 / 2 is the same nylon used in the regular bag. he stated it has a little more of sheen to it

- the 660 nylon used in the Players 3 is the same nylon used in the stand bag, a flatter look to it

On the above, he stated one is not heavier than the other just different looks.

- the Duck canvas is a more expensive canvas that they purchase for the players 4 bag. It is not a waxed canvas, but it is made to be more resistant to water than the nylon. It sounds like the Waxed and Duck are trying to accomplish the same thing, a more water resistant fabric, but he made it clear they are not water proof! it is also slightly heavier than the nylon bags.

- he stated the only waxed bag is in the Original bag. It has been discontinued and once those that are still listed on the website are sold they will be gone.

Hopefully this helps a little for those looking.

Ouch! That shipping is rough, I think mine was $15. Can't wait to get it and put it in play.

I am a big fan of the Sterling irons. i have a number posts out there of reviews, but my game has improved since putting them in play this year with hc drop from 10+ down in under 7. I am playing the 6-SW.

$15 is much nicer!

Waiting for the lefty Sterling silver this Spring. Building a 1/2 set with the 5 hybrid to test out as a minimalist set. Can't wait!

You will love the sterlings..I play with 12 clubs most of the time but I played at least 7 or 8 rounds this year with 7 clubs and I am not sure I really noticed a difference. It depends on the course and the distance played but playing with 7 takes a lot of the decision process out of club selection and free's up your mind to be creative or be fine with a layup, vs trying to hit the perfect shot, perfect distance every time. (which as we know results in disappointment most of the time).

I am looking forward to carrying the Players bag vs my stand bag. I like my SM X stand bag a lot as it has a lot of great qualities, but I do get tired of the dual strap, the leg lever at the bottom of the bag, and having it blow over on hilly areas. I wish Jones had a better color selection in the Players bag. I went with the white one 002 even though I kept telling myself I should pick the players 003 as it will look better after using it for a year. Jones stated they will be coming out with a green Players bag in the spring of 2017 and they will have the 001 (black) back in stock as well.

Very nice...

I'm hoping to go with an aeroburner or SLDR mini driver, Wishon 5 hybrid, 7,9,G,L and my putter. Might swap the mini for a driver and wood... we'll see. The goal is to simplify everything and that goes right down to the bag. A few people on my other golf board are selling some original series bags that I might scoop to save the $55 in shipping!

Anyone have experience with the utility stand model? Compared to a standard carry bag? I have a ping 4 series and the straps aren't comfortable so hoping the Jones utility will be better

I have the utility currently and think the strap system is garbage...so much so I took it off and put on an izzo double strap. Much better. Having said that, I think I'm going to the new Ping 4 Series...so I guess alot of this is just personal preference...

I have the first version 4 series, the newer one looks like the straps are more cushioned. Hate the colors other than black though

Good to know on the strap...the local shops don't have the '17 bags in stock yet. The Utility I have is the gray (or slate, don't remember what they call it) with red accents, and I'm not a fan of all black bags, so was excited to see in the new Ping line up the gray/black/red. It should still match all my headcovers, and while I'm not huge on branding/logos (part of the Jones appeal), Ping isn't too over the top with it so I'll try to deal with it.
