Do you consider all Pars through 9 holes boring?

Nice to see I'm not the only person that thinks this way. Had one of those yesterday late in the afternoon. Hit 8 greens and shot even. Had three "US Open pars," as I call them: Had to pitch out from trouble off the tee, then stuck my approach close with a wedge, and made the par save. Those feel GOOOOOD!!! :-)

If I'm playing bag and scrambling for those pars I feel like I'm winning the day. If I'm striping it and the putts just aren't going in (usually because greens suck) then nah, I feel like I lost somehthing.

 

I'd say 9 pars in a row is good, never argue with 36. But 7 pars in a row with bogeys on the end will irritate me. That one or two of those 7 should have been birdies to offset the bogeys. But I'm at around a 4 handi now so +2 on a 9 doesn't get me too excited.

if by boring, you mean ecstatic because I just shot the best round of my life, then yes!

I could see how Fairway, middle of the green, 2 putt could get boring/frustrating. But at the end of the day I would dream to be that bored. I've shot some 38s before, and it felt exciting but that's because I was scrambling for pars, getting up and down.

In putt-putt I do. Not in real golf. That's seems to be pretty consistent but a lot of factors. GIR, FH, 3-putts can all affect your outlook of even through 9.

Gotta say no, shot a -1 on 9 last year with 3 bogies and 4 birdies. My best 9 ever but not on my heart, what a roller coaster.

Good round of golf IS boring, least for me. When I card my lowest rounds its because I am relaxed, not thinking about much anything other than the current shot and what needs to be done, then exicuting the best I can.

 

Last weekend was even par going into #12 and didn't know it till finished. Finished with a good score, but not my best.

A run of pars scares your opponents. I had 7 on the run 2 weeks ago and it was getting to my regular playing partner!

Had a run of 6 straight pars, two were scrambling then bogeyed, then birdied then bogeyed....that was the first 45 minutes.

The next nine was a train wreck. +9.

 

But finished in an hour ! 10+ in 1:45.

 

That was my lunch meeting so I had to make it quick. Lucky for me the course was empty!

 

Straight pars was more boring than straight bogeys on the back. But much more gratifying

I had 3 birdies and shot 38 on the front 9 yesterday... 2 horrendous doubles mixed in there. I would have been much happier with parring 9 for 36 than seeing my ball absolutely plugged in the lip of that saturated bunker on #9....

 

As many have said, boring golf is good golf, but, there is always room for improvement. In the handful of times I have broken par on 9 (never been better than E for 18), I have always been able to recount a couple strokes lost... that lipped out birdie look, not stuffing it close with a wedge on a hole I had a chance to, etc.

 

Doesn't change the fact that it was a great round. Just proves the fact that golf can never be perfected.

First, yes, it's boring as hell. Second, yes, it's frustrating as hell to hit 9 greens and not make a single birdie.

 

Lastly, I like boring golf. I'll gladly accept that frustration, because statistically speaking, every birdie putt I miss gets me closer to my next made birdie putt. If i keep hitting greens, I'm going to have a good day. Just a matter of time.

Not sure I have ever had nine pars on the front nine. I would take it in a NY minute. Yet I would be upset I did not have a birdie or two in there. Sometimes it is hard to get the ball close on your shot into the green. I have hit 16 of 18 greens and only had two putts inside ten feet and missed one of them.

As a matter of fact I did it today. Boring but easy. 36 on the front-all pars. 39 on the back-7 pars a bogey and a stupid double. Had good but not great looks at birdie all day and could not buy one.

I posted this earlier in the thread, but i'll post again because i just shot a 72 on Tuesday and it made me think of this thread. Front 9 was 9 straight pars and the back was 2 birdies and 2 bogeys

 

But the front 9 was kind of all over the place. On the 1st hole i got up and down from over the green with a very nice chip. On the 2nd hole (a par 5) i had to chip out laterally and then hit 3 wood into the green, 4th hole was an up and down, 5th hole was a sand save. And then 6,7,8,9 were GIR's

 

But still 1-5 was an adventure and i still shot a 36 with 9 pars

 

Golf is rarely boring
