Do you consider all Pars through 9 holes boring?

So, my first 9 hole round of the year, I shot all pars for an even 35. I was basically going "Fairway, Green, 2-putt" or "Green, 2-putt" on par 3's all the way until the 9th hole when I shanked my wedge shot into the green-side bunker. No problem, just pop the bunker shot to about a couple feet from the hole. I made the putt for par for the E in 9 holes.

Not sure whether the round was considered fun, because it's a very good score for my first time out of 2016, or boring because I only made pars that round.

What do you think?

I'm ok with that kind of boring.

All my best rounds are played that way.. I've played a couple 9's at +1/+2 over a few different occasions and it's always exactly what you described. Only one of which had a birdie in it. 6-7 good holes (pars), maybe one better hole (birdie) and one or two bad holes (bogey/double).

I've shot three 39's over 9 holes and those are when I am playing more aggressively. The most impressive one for myself was comprised of two doubles, 3 birdies, one bogey and the rest were pars.

The 39's were more exciting with the mix of birdies and par's, but the mistakes were bigger too, and the scores ultimately showed which round is the most exciting score to look at.

"Boring" is the wrong word. If golf ever became boring we should all quit.

If one considered even par to be unacceptable, and few of us would, then a better term might be "too safe". One did not hit the ball close enough to make birdie or take enough chances off the tee to maximize the chances to hit wedge rather than 7-iron.

Personally I'd be stoked to have any 9 like that (but I'm no 2.3 either). I guess when you play with a group that celebrates double bogeys like they're eagles your perspective is pretty different. LOL Nice going OP, hope that round went under par for ya.

Anyone that thinks 9 pars is boring has never made 9 pars in a row. Regardless of how you shot even par, you shot it, and would have beat 99.999% of the golfers on the planet that day.......Maybe more!!......

You'd have an absolutely packed tee sheet and need a lot of daylight to get it in though.

This... Is a good way to look at it. I took it easy that day and basically hit 8 or 9 iron approach shots all that day, not so much 7-iron shots, except on one of the par 3's, but that's different in my opinion.

I like to get that "cool and calm" feeling on the course.

Last year I had a round where I parred the first 15 holes ... Lagged an 8 foot birdie putt on 16 because I wanted 18 pars ... and then doubled 17.

I hate golf.

Solid passive-brag thread here. :D

90% of the folks on this site have never shot even par for 9, and would probably be doing backflips over your boring round. I've shot even par for 9, but never 18, and I'm still super excited when it happens regardless of how "boring" it might be.

Exactly..... First round of the season, maybe he should just give up the game.

As opposed to coming here and laughing at a mundane even par, for all us regular schmoes he rubs it in..... 7/7 Fairways, 8/9 GIR's, no 3-putts and to top it off stiffs his only sand shot to a couple of feet.

I hate these "whiny" posts...... :pimp:

Having had rounds that are exactly like you describe I can say I have never found them to be overly boring. Frustrating at times, sure, but never boring. It typically becomes frustrating when you can't make a couple of those shorter putts that you should be able to, but you forget about it and move on.

As others have said, working on those approach shots may be the way to start the year practice wise and then go from there.

If you want more excitement, you can have my 3rd round of the year instead, 41 front with 3 doubles, a bogey, and a birdie, 30 back with 2 birdies and 2 eagles for a ho-hum even par round of 71.

Shooting par is shooting par no matter how you look at it. My kid had 5 birdies, a double, and a triple yesterday. You both shot even par. I would take even par every day. Have never shot even par in my life. Yet, you and my son are complaining to some degree, LOL. My son hasn't stopped that he should have been under par with 5 birdies and only 24 putts. You are complaining about making par on every hole. LOL.... It is a game. Don't worry about score (unless you are playing for something) and have fun.

I am GenX.  If you really think I care about what you have to say, I don't.

Not all 36's are created equal. If I hit 9 fairways, and 9 greens, and stuffed a number of approaches within birdie range, but missed the putts, I'd probably be frustrated. If my iron play was a bit off, and not giving myself birdie opportunities, I'd be quite satisfied that my lag putting held up nicely. If I missed the majority of the greens, and still managed par, I'd be very happy that my scrambling was top notch.

Basically, if you shoot even par something worked right, and something was likely off. 'Classic glass half full scenario.

Honestly, after being on-and-off this for the last few years, I am actually still confused about what exactly a "passive/humble brag" is. I am just being honest about how a round went. My apologies if a certain round/shot accidentally turns into this "passive brag." If one of my posts in the future does turn out to be one, it's not intentional.

A few years ago I was having those rounds a bunch and asked my pro if he could come help with a few things putting wise. As I was two putting almost every hole. He said lets go play nine so I can see the whole gambit. I hit all nine greens in reg and was one under. I asked what was wrong with my putting. He looks at me with a straight face and says nothing a****** learn to hit your wedges from inside a hundred yards closer then 30 feet. He took a drink a beer and walked away. I worked on my wedge game over the next few months and saw my game get dramatically better. Truth be told if you are not hitting inside 15 feet you are not going to make many.
