The standard length of the 5 iron in this set is 37.5 inches. Mine swing out at D2.

The weight port is designed to adjust the weight by a mere 2 sw points.

It is likely that it was designed to be used to adjust the weight at the toe to modify ball flight rather than any serious attempt to modify the SW. ie a tendency to draw or fade the ball.

wouldn't the sw depend on the weights....I have a number of the weights (came w/an old Kenneth Smith sw set) and they are all different sizes.

I never recall seeing a factory "weight kit" from Wilson on those. Do not recall seeing them in the Wilson Catalog. My old man was a Wilson dealer at the time. I have pulled down like 3 sets of those. One had nothing at all one had small fishing weights and the other one had lead powder. Most of the good players that messed with those Wilsons used lead tape or at least in my area they did. I would be curious if some of the Wilson experts chime in on this

The Pro I worked for, Odel Trueblood, told me of his memories with the adjustment weights...he also remembered, not all that fondly, of replacing cracked pyratone sheaths (which you can see for sale in Kaplan's)....

Just went and checked - here's the pics of what was in the lower box of an old Kenneth Smith...looks like I was incorrect of what was in my box, tho some of those discs were cut & there is a small lead weight. I do recall a repair shop in San Antonio that was a great place for info, some buys...in the actual repair area, I was shown various sizes of what I thought were lead, they sure were black or very tarnished & alot of lead powder (Is that what those black cones are for, I wonder?).

The amount of weight the weight port accommodates only makes 2 sw points difference.

If you go through the archives you will/should find a post by me or Stixman showing the weight kit Wilson issued for these for both the irons and the woods from that year, along with the instructions and specs. It included comprehensive photos and comments by Stu.

I've got nothing further to add.

I can almost smell that box.

Here's a pic of the weight kit from the 1974 catalog page in the Kaplan book.

Thanks for the posting...went and looked in my Kaplan's - the kits aren't mentioned in the '73, when the adjustable sw was introduced, but was in '74 & '75....they weren't in the cataloge after than (tho, I only checked thru '78)

Actually there is something to add. The 'street' term for this model was 'Adjustaback', for the terminally helpless they were called 'Rattlebacks'

Those threaded blind bolts are from Spalding and are used for counterweighting in the butt end of the shaft.

Thanks, I was wondering about those bolts....I wonder what/where/how it works, I've used the modern system. I guess I'll have to check an old Spalding orphan club & take it apart.

Like I said it goes in the butt of the shaft, I think I spy a plastic grommet which should have an internal thread. This goes into the butt end and the threaded bolt screws into it, jamming it in place. At one end of the bolt you will see a recess for a square? driver, maybe torx I forget, but that's how it works. Think they came from the MV2 series of cast Spalding blades when they wanted to adjust the SW without disfiguring the voluptuous beauty of the head. I've mentioned this recently in another thread.

I found taylormade (left handed) mini driver at a local thriftstore..  Might have been 300Ti

I think it's an older model.  I thought of buying it for a friend.. but wasn't sure if he will like it..

Anyone know if the mini drivers has any value?

Maybe I'll go back and get it.. Usually they are $1-2 dollars..

Strikes me as being a component brand. Not inherently a bad thing, though I've seen lots of clubs on eBay and at thrift stores under the "Pro Model" name.

What I suspected, but $5 made it an easy buy.  I look forward to trying it out.

Found some interesting items to mess around with today.

Some laminates and a steel driver... Will be pulling the Spalding shaft to put in a NOS persimmon Spalding 4W. The Tour Model was bought specifically for the Precision 6.5 shaft as well. The 6 and 8 woods... Well I bought those because one of our fellow members said the 6W is a blast! The 8W actually has a Dynamic in it as well, unknown flex.

Some irons as well. I've never seen a MacGregor Chieftain before so I grabbed it, nice leather grip.

Went shopping at a local large golf retailer.  Taking a brief look at the used rack and come across a 2-pw set of the 73-75 Wilson Staffs, the screw in weight model.  They were in surprisingly good shape, had (stock, I assume) Ultralite shafts in stiff (red paint band), and may have been over length.

Nearly walked out with them, but looking at everything I've got that doesn't get played, chose not to grab them.

A fun surprise in the midst of the shiny new stuff

Don't know anything about it, but I like the look of it and wouldn't hesitate to put it into play. Useful little rescue club, for one thing.

That little Northwestern 6 wood is identical to the one I ordered new and carried for years until it finally split sometime in the early 90s

I used it once Friday on a layup type hard right dogleg par 4 hole because why not?  Looked like a wedge in trajectory!  Got a whole 180 out of a well struck swing. Had 130 left into the green. I can see it being used on some longer par 3s for stopping and staying.

I have a V-steel 9w that I sometimes play with my modern bag (a V-steel is still modern, right??), and I call it my long-range pitching wedge.

The only problem is hitting it into the wind. Then it becomes a short-range lob wedge...
