Most well received Adams forged irons?

played the original idea pro mb's, and have had the cmb's in my bag for the past 3 or 4 years. i cannot say enough great things about the cmbs. they were my first cavity backed iron in years and while i find them plenty forgiving, they still give off a classic blade-like look. the stock c-tapers that they came with certainly didn't hurt either.

I'm playing XTD Forged currently. Like them, but you know when you missed it off pure.

Maybe that's a good thing. Previously played Pro A12 for several years and really liked those. Always wanted to try MB2's.

try em' for a blade design they are amazingly forgiving.

I bought heads only of CMB'S and MB2"s and had a combo set built to my specs. I gotta tell ya the MB2's are hard to beat. The CMB's were more economical to manufacture more set were available. CMB's look friendlier to the eye and the performance was /is astounding for a small head cavity back.

For me it was the CMB by far. Looks, feel, forgiveness, stock C-tapers (before anyone had heard of them).

Great great clubs.

Stock C-tapers in the CMB was clutch... no doubt!

I think its tough to argue that the CMB wasn't their best received offering. Classic looks with some subtle modern touches to improve forgiveness and playability. I still think the XTD is a more forgiving offering, and more playable, but the slots changed a bit of the feel and sound and came at a time when so many were bickering on the legitimacy of the benefits of sole slotted irons. It seems now that the sole slots are beneficial, at least as far as raw performance on vertical and lateral misses off center. Either way, the XTD didn't get the love the CMB did.

Man, excuse my ignorance, but was the MB2 tour only? It seems that the only ones ive seen forsale are crazy expensive (considering age) or they say tour issue???

Some were the simplest way to tell is the number of brass weight plugs. The retail version has 5 plugs and the tour issue version have 7 plugs. Also I believe all the ones that are the satin Finnish like the sets that Aaron Baddley plays are also tour issue.

Love the mb2 still bag them today !

The Idea Tech A4 Forged was my first real set of irons back in high school. Loved them. Sole glided through anything. If you liked those irons and want to play something similar, look at the Wilson Staff FG Tour V4 irons. Wilson brought in some former Adams guys on their design team and the V4's definitely are influenced by the A4 Forged.

All this mb2 talk has me looking for a set. Hit me up if anyone wants to offload some!

Has anyone hit both mb2 and cmb? How much more forgiving are the cmbs?

I've hit both and at the time was a 9 hcp, similar to you. To be perfectly honest with you I didn't see a difference. I know I liked looking down at the MB2's more but the CMB's had a thin topline as well. Anyway if you can pick up a set do it, you won't have any regrets.

Check my sig for a link to my custom-length CMBs...they're easily the best clubs I've ever gamed.

And because I can't help myself, I'm now building a custom-length set of MB2s (PVD finish) in 3-G.

As far as how people feel about them is concerned, I'd say the MB2s have the largest cult following of any Adams irons. PGA player James Hahn is notorious for buying up sets off eBay, and let's be real here—the raw finish is the coolest thing any OEM has done with irons in the last 6 years.

I own two sets of raw MB2s, and while one of them is bone stock with the black KBS Tours, the other is shafted up with TT Monacos (stiff)...the copper shafts and the rusty heads have been head-turners every time I've taken them out on the course.

I was going to say the same thing. Mb2s are so forgiving for blades that there isn't much difference.

For me the tour issue satins with the 7 plugs launched lower than the retail. Not sure if it was the shafts but the retails felt like there was more weight lower which wasn't necessarily a bad thing.

The only Adams irons I have ever played are the A4's....and they are still in my bag! I have tried many others over the years but have yet to find any to kick the A4's to the curb (actually the closet in the garage!). I'm a 12 index and these are plenty forgiving. I played the Diablo forged for a season and then went back to the A4's on a whim and fell in love all over again. I have to admit the Mizuno 850f's have caught my eye.

3 sets of MB2 in my possession, one of them is the 7plug tour issue set which are gamers. I am building one of the other sets with the same shafts/specs which will probably be the new gamers. CMB is very similar in forgiveness but they look more forgiving if that's what you're into. I'd say the CMBs feel a little softer as well.

Adams was making some great forged clubs before the Evil Empire bought them out. I have owned the CB2's and CMB's. (I still own and use the Gap Wedge from my CB2's). I can say that I regret getting rid of both of them. The CB2's were the first set of sticks that I had ever bought brand new. They were incredibly soft (I dare say Mizuno soft) and amazingly forgiving for having such a small profile. I personally did not have any problems with the black finish wearing off. The only reason I sold them was because I had originally purchased them when I first started playing seriously. As my swing speed increased the KBS Tour 90 shafts became way too light for my swing. They are a great shaft for someone with a slower swing speed, but if you pick up a set of CB2's and have a driver swing speed of over 95 mph then I would plan on re shafting them.

I am probably more depressed about selling my CMB's. I picked up a next to new set off of BST that actually had a 3 iron in it. They were in great shape. I played them for 3 rounds, when I had a bad knee, and therefore could not give them a fair shake. I had to sell them after I had knee surgery and my wife found out that I had 3 sets of irons in the garage. I really want them back though. They are a poor mans AP2 that feels better and is a bit more forgiving. You will probably pay a good bit more for the CMB's than the CB2's, but it is worth it. They are sweet. The only draw back for some may be the stock C-Taper shafts. If you are a natural low ball hitter then you might want to stay away from them.

The Adams CB1's are one of the best irons I've ever owned. I always kick myself for selling them. They were relatively rare so unfortunately many never tried them. The CMB's are incredible as well and nearly bought them a few times.

I've had the A4 Forged, CB2, and current set of CB3, as well as the A12pros.

My favorite were the A4 Forged ( wish I hadn't sold them) great feel and look, played some of my best golf ever with them.

CB2s were good, but the KBS tour90 shaft was a terrible fit for me. I'd be interested in a decent shape set of heads to put some Recoils in.

Pretty happy w/ my CB3s, but they don't quite feel/sound as good as the A4 or CB2.

Just a little something I picked up yesterday.

YOU LUCKY S O B. Those are beauties.

Why, thank you

Wow, thanks for all the responses. Again, when I started this thread I was simply curious. Now I NEED a set of MB2s and CMBs.

Now, somebody school me on the MB2. I see some raw, pvd, satin, some with plugs. Which ones are retail, which are tour issue (obviously I need these, this is WRX) Which ones should I be looking out for, etc?? Pics would help :) I am a visual learner!

Oh, and where in the world did you get those??

Hmmm. Well I'll have to read to see what form forged means. I've owned and played a set last year and was under the impression they were cast. Felt cast. But honestly the most forgiving iron of that size CB or mb I've ever hit. I mean you literally can hit it outside the grooves and it feels the same and goes.

Interesting read. I will say this. When you go to bend them for loft lie you will think they have ping written on them. Outstanding iron , and one I would buy again if I run across cheap. But not on the soft side. Cmb I owned felt better but honestly not more forgiving than the mb2. Both are exceptional quality wise.
