Most well received Adams forged irons?

socied

Recommended Posts

Just seeing what yall think. I know most Adams iron fly under the radar and don't get a lot of love because guys on tour don't play them. But I have seen and heard nothing but great things. Which ones have you tried? I've never hit them and might try and pick up a set super super cheap. If I can. The ones that caught my eye are:

  • CMB
  • XTD Forged
  • CB3

MB2 should probably be at the top of the list, especially if you are pretty consistent. Top notch in all respects.

A12 Pro's are right there with them, with a little more forgiveness. Might be tough to find a set in great shape though.

CMB get great feedback from nearly everyone that plays them. Same for XTD forged.

CB3 are about as forgiving as forged gets.

You'll probably have to pick one and take a flyer. They will be hard to compare side by side, since none are currently in showrooms.

Yeah this was my thought process. I want to stay away from the MBs, I want the forgiveness of the cb especially if I will just be messing around with them

I'm playing XTD Forged currently. Like them, but you know when you missed it off pure.

Maybe that's a good thing. Previously played Pro A12 for several years and really liked those. Always wanted to try MB2's.

Every Adams forged irons I've ever hit have been awesome. The MB2's were probably my favorite all around, and by far the coolest looking off the shelf irons ever made. The CMB's were probably the most well received though and they were great too. But the most success I personally ever had was the A12 pros.

A12 Pro's were/are great. Haven't decided on which irons to use for the year quite yet, but they are great irons and I picked them up 3 years ago for $100 (!!) used but in great shape. I think which ever set you decide on you will like.

I've played the CMB's, CB3's, MB2 satin and the A12 pros. Obviously I'm a big Adams fan, I kick myself in the Word not allowed for selling the MB2's. Once of the best irons ( especially looks ) I've ever owned. Any for the forgiveness I would say the A12 pros are at the top of the list followed by the CB3's. However the finish on the CB3's doesn't hold up very well.

I will also say MB2 based on personal preference and experience, but since you want to shy away from MBs I would go with the A12 Pro's. Not far behind the MB2 in terms of feel and are an all around fantastic performing iron. I've also gamed CMBs and love them too, but I think the A12 offer just a bit more in the forgiveness department. Haven't played the XTD Forged though, but I certainly do at some point in time just for the heck of it.

Thanks for all the replies. I hate this forum hahaha. Not even in the market for clubs, I saw something shiny, I post up a thread and now I am watching about 7 sets of irons on ebay haha. All in good fun. I want ot get the tinkering out of the way before the season really gets started.

As on now im watching:

cmb - seems like these get a ton of love and are reasonable

A12s - a lot of love and one of the cheapest

MB2 - well, you guys basically sold me and just because

The original Idea Pro irons are also very, very good. I don't know how well received they were, but man, so easy to hit. Small, compact, thin topline ... I had two sets before the MB2 ... and they can be had for cheap.

I'm trying to think of a forged iron they've made that Wasn't well received. I've played A12 pros but they were the wrong shaft for me. Great feel and great at address. I sold them instead of Reshafting them. Also played the a4 Forged years ago and they were fantastic as well. I really don't think you can go wrong with any Adams forged iron that fits your eye.

I've hit none that you mentioned (so why comment, right :taunt: ) but I've played Idea Pros, A4s and Pro Black CB2s. If forgiveness is what you're looking for I'd find the CB2. From what I've read the CB3 is chunkier and more offset than CB2. CB2 is progressive offset. More of a players look than CB3.

Totally agree. IMO, CB2's are a classic. Among the best sets of irons I've ever owned (now being used by my son). Much better looking than CB3's.

Loved my CB2s. Gave them to my nephew and he's loving them. Very nice feel and more than enough forgiveness.

I actually have all three sets mentioned by the OP.

I honestly think they are all 3 spectacular. If I had to rank them based on my personal opinion 1. CB3 1A. XTD Forged 1B. CMB.

I currently game the XTD Forged. But, I have always said, the CB3's are my favorite irons ever. However, the XTD Forged are starting to get really close. Alot more forgiving than I initially thought.

I scored a MINT set of XTD Forged recently 5-GW w/CTapers for $200 shipped. It was too good of a deal to pass up. I threw a touch lighter shaft (XP105) in them and couldn't be more satisfied. I do not think you can go wrong with any of the three.

If I was to rate them based on categories:

Forgiveness

CB3

XTD Forged

CMB

Looks

CMB

XTD Forged

CB3

Feel

XTD Forged/CMB (toss up)

CB3

Playability (I found that I could catch a flyer on the CB3s every one in a while. I find the CMB's the least forgiving, so IMO, they are the least playable for my own game)

XTD Forged

CB3

CMB

I got a set of XTD Forged built with some Recoil Protos when they first came out. Love those irons and I still have them. That being said, when I found a set of raw MB2 for sale on Craigslist for $250, I offered the guy $200 and he took it. They have been in the bag since then.

The XTD Forged are a great iron at a very reasonable price point right now. You can't go wrong with them. They can feel 'off' on mishits, but it seems that my mishits still fly the right distance while not feeling pured.
