Taylormade Spider Limited Putters (06/03 Release Date)

Recommended Posts

I got rid of the ss grip as soon as i took it out of box.

what an ugly grip they put on as stock!! gosh!!!

i had a spare blk/red scotty cameron pistolero grip and put it on and it's money.

i recommend to get rid of the ss grip and put something smaller to feel more of head weight.

this putter with fat ss killed all good things of what it has to offer.

Same question what grip you put on instead?

Since you asked...

I have about six other putters with SS grip on them, including 2.0 to flatso 1.0.

But just couldn't handle the stock SS grip that came with this spider.

I couldn't be happier with this grip.

Gamed my all red for the first time this week. I really like the insert, it's miles ahead of previous iterations. Pulled the grip, cut it down too 33.5' and set the lie. Wasn't thrilled that Taylormade released a sweet flat stick with no custom options but I (and the putter) servived the project. Gripped with a black cabretta Gripmaster paddle and must say it looks sharp with the black chrome shaft. First impressions, face feels AMAZING. I'm a big fan of sight lines extending all the way to to the face probably the major reason I grabbed one. Over all I'm very pleased...BB

Careful....I saw one at store and pure roll face had dents in it...

I liked the red one, face felt good even with chitty balls....also lie seems bit flatter than most TM putters....which I liked....I may go back and get the red one

Funny thing is I didn't like it when I first saw it but after putting with it was different story....take back DDLL + and she'll out $50

Went with an old school golf pride pistol I had in the garage

I actually like the stock SS grip because it's 50 g. That means I can feel the putter head. So wondering what else light you guys are putting on.

Actually the funny thing is I'm seeing specs that grip is actually 105g not 50 g like usual SS mid slim 2.0. Anyone know if this is true?

.

I just pulled and weighed the grip, it does indeed weigh 105 grams

DAMHIK, but those plugs appear to be aluminum. There is something shiny below the black paint. The plugs do twist a bit, as if they are screwed in or glued in. I can't imagine that TM would tool up for two heads that look the same. So I'm guessing that the plug is screwed in. I'm still waiting on a bigger pair, before I tear into them. I'll try and post a pic tonight.

Okay mystery solved. They are simply decorative buttons. Held in with adhesive tape. I cut a piece of bubinga on the bandsaw warmed the area a bit with a hair dryer. And it came loose. Disappointed for sure. But it is what it is.

I love the alignment and stability of mine.. Only thing that I don't like is the weird sound from the insert. I'm thinking a custom deep milled red insert by Tom Sligter might make this thing the SH!T

Excellent work Sherlock!

What an odd design. Now the question is, what to do with those sockets?

I wonder if there is enough material to drill and tap it to accept the usual weights?

Or maybe tour fill with tungsten powder / epoxy mix?

I'll get an exact volume of that hole tonight. But just guessing it's about 1/2" in diameter by 1/2" deep, about 0.1 cu in.. A tungsten powder with black shafting epoxy might give a little weight and look decent.

It would be interesting to see if there's enough depth to trim the thread off one of these weights and epoxy it in???

This is just from eyeballing it, but I don't think those weights would fit in the ports (if you can call them that)-- the port looks much too narrow to fit one of the screw-in weights.

Any updates on people's on course experiences??

I've finally had enough of my 2016 Newport and going back to a mallet

Toying between the Scotty M1 and the Spider Red....never had a TM Putter before and have an indifferent relationship with my WHP 2-Ball

Have the same question here. I currently have a newport and thinking about buying a spider limited on the cheaper end just to mess around with. I have only putted with it at pga ss. So curious if anyone has any first hand experience.

Spent a good hour on the putting green (proper one) with the Spider Red, Golo3 and the SC M1

Whilst I loved the shape of the Golo3.....the Spider Red was an absolute automatic monster.....it just wants to swing square

I've been struggling lately with getting very wobbly on my backstroke with my Newport and with the 2 Scottys I still felt like I was trying too hard to prevent a wobble......not with the Spider.....I just need to focus on tempo as this thing is just so stable!!

Let's just say it is now in my bag (I had reservations about TM Putters having been an Odyssey/Scotty loyalist for 20 years) but I have high hopes for this!!

Now to sell my Newport!!!

Called in to customer service yesterday. I was inquiring about a new insert and a sole plate for my center shaft ghost from a few years back. Asked if a new center shaft is in the works and he said no.... But he said well you know we are releasing the "Jason day putter" soon. Should we expect a "limited release" of it? Didn't ask any further questions.

If that is true I should probably wait and see if they really come out with a proper JDay version

Customer service almost never has information on future product plans, so I'm not sure how much weight can be given to info provided by a CS rep.

That being said...I was intrigued by the new putter cover Day received a few weeks ago. It's an all red version of the Spider limited cover, but it's branded on the top as "Spider Tour". That product designation doesn't exist anywhere, so it piqued my curiosity. Is it a one-off name just for him, or are we going to see a new line based on his actual model sometime next season. Or is it boring and is just the ongoing name for the Spider Limited line, which wouldn't be limited in 2017?

I know nothing, but found the name interesting.

So I just thought id share, I removed the aluminum glued screws and drill and tapped to accept the TM weights i had in an oldd superquad. It worked great, buuuuuut the hole isnt but 1/4" deep so my weights stick out a bit. I dunno, kinda looks cool to me hahaha

Any pics?

Is the limited spider the same size as the daddy long legs? Can anyone post pictures of both?

No they are not the same size. The Limited is much smaller, the Long Legs is huge comparatively

In terms of head size, the Limited is the same size as the Itsy Bitsy, the Spider S is larger than the Limited, and the Long Legs is huge
