Woman's NCAA Tournament

Okay, I was watching the matches today on the golf channel as well as watching last year, and I noticed that these girls will yell and scream after a winning putt, okay I get it you're excited that doesn't bother me. Now what is a little weird to me is when the entire team runs onto the green after a match is finished and they are screaming, yelling, celebrating, but the issue is they are doing all this after a girl was just beat by you and you are basically celebrating in her face. Now I could just be being a picky guy and what not, I just find it a little tough to watch these teams get so excited right there on the green while there is a female from the opposing team almost in tears 5 feet from you.

Am I in the minority here or does anyone else agree, or see where I'm coming from?

Just trying to learn how to putt.

I felt bad for Ridderstrom for UCLA, but I would never expect a team that just advanced to the NCAA Championship by way of holed bunker shot on the 19th hole to curb their celebration. That is effectively a Final Four buzzer-beater. They weren't taunting the other team or anything, just expressing pure joy for their success. I have absolutely no problem with it.

Yeah I think that is it more than anything, I watched that and felt bad also. I get they weren't taunting anyone, and just showing their emotion which I like to see. The more I think about it the more i realize i am in the wrong here, I just re watched the exact clip you spoke about and posted this thread.

Ridderstrom got lucky to hit the flag on 17(? I believe) That hole was a lucky break. I just believe wins should be applauded. I hate the way the world has turned in every kid gets a trophy for participation. Breeds entitlement. I hate my kid got a trophy for soccer when they didn't keep score at any games. Every trophy or medal I have ever gotten, I have earned. And when I won, I celebrated. Not to rub it in, because my hard work paid off. I wanted to win more than my opponent and put in the hours of practice to get there. I'm overly competitve to a fault sometimes. But I will never fault someone for celebrating my hard work. I never got upset that someone else celebrated a championship when I was on the losing end. I congratulate and walk away knowing I gave it my all and just wasn't good enough on that day.

Who you folks got for today? Washington or Stanford with the back to back? I'm pulling for the under dog here, but they've got a fairly large mountain to climb.

Stanford. They're playing WAY too good.

Yea you're definitely in the minority and quite honestly, come off sounding like a bit of an a**.

They're college kids competing in the biggest tournament of their lives. God forbid they get excited when they win.

It's an opinion and a conversation starter, read the thread before calling people names as I retracted what I said in probably the 3rd post. So actually you sound like the Word not allowed. I am also a college kid and have been in similar situations and no what it is like to have emotions running high.

I agree...what's the big deal about celebrating the biggest win in woman's UW golf...they hugged, cheered and cried on the sidelines when she she holed out of the bunker...the girl who made the shot barely celebrated herself...she was too busy raking the bunker

Only one person on here came off like a jerk, and it was not him. There's always one... nice work being "that guy."

Personally I'm not a fan of celebrations like that on the spot. When a match concludes, you peacefully shake hands or hug and then go with your team and celebrate.

Any more than a fist pump is too much, in my opinion. One of the things that I like about golf is the self control and respect we must have.

Have you ever watched the Ryder Cup?

I remember last year as soon as Baylor's player missed the putt on the final hole, Stanford's players instantly started screaming and celebrating. This year, when Stanford missed the final putt, the Washington players showed restraint for several moments before celebrating. A lot of class demonstrated by the Huskies this evening. Well deserved.

When golf becomes a team sport, like here our the Ryder cup, I think there should be more emotion shown. It makes it more fun to watch. Crowds should be loud and into it. This idea that golf has to always be this emotionless competition with nothing but a cap tip and a handshake is hogwash. It is quite easy to be excited for your team and still show respect for the game and competitors.
