Okay, I was watching the matches today on the golf channel as well as watching last year, and I noticed that these girls will yell and scream after a winning putt, okay I get it you're excited that doesn't bother me. Now what is a little weird to me is when the entire team runs onto the green after a match is finished and they are screaming, yelling, celebrating, but the issue is they are doing all this after a girl was just beat by you and you are basically celebrating in her face. Now I could just be being a picky guy and what not, I just find it a little tough to watch these teams get so excited right there on the green while there is a female from the opposing team almost in tears 5 feet from you.

Am I in the minority here or does anyone else agree, or see where I'm coming from?

And hate watching them use push carts

Not sure what you are trying to say, never mentioned anything about push carts. I frequently use one in my college events so actually zero issue with it at all but thanks for trying.

Just trying to learn how to putt.

Let's see how you act if you or your team wins a semifinal or national championship.

P.S. Get off my lawn.

I'm saying i think you're acting like a cranky old man, and I hate celebrations but realize they have there place.

The carts are here to stay. D1 men use them, many high school players are starting to use them. If they can save you even a stroke or two over several rounds of competition, they're an advantage. As a coach (and player), I have zero problems with this.

As a college player with a bad back due to other sports (in my case hockey) I would not be able to play without a push cart. If I have to carry my bag my back is fried for several days afterwards. If you have a problem with them that is your opinion, but you must understand that for some they are necessary. Especially for college players that play a lot of golf, carrying is archaic.

OP, I understand your sentiment. I've never considered Golf to be a competitive sport in the same arena as Football, basketball, soccer,etc.. I've always seen it as a game of class, dignity and good sportsmanship. The world has changed and unfortunately so has golf. I'm not saying it should be emotionless, but things have gotten out of hand for my taste.

Pull carts? Celebrating? I was seeing something else. A really fun match to watch with a lot of drama. Hole out from the fairway to win the match on her last collegiate shot? Are you kidding me? Wow. Two determining matches going into extra holes. That was great stuff to watch.

Man, it drives me nuts that we continue to move toward a society where we can't celebrate victory. In anything. Because we might "offend" someone or make someone mad.

These kids arent 6 year olds receiving t-ball participation trophies. These are college kids playing a game they are attending school on scholarship for, and winning an NCAA title carries with it major prestige...even gets a few kids into professional tournaments. They shake hands/hug at the end, and then celebrate winning. There's nothing wrong with that.

In sports, there are winners and losers. If you can't handle losing, you shouldnt play.

Me neither. They still have to walk the course, but it Improves pace of play a bit, and makes things a bit easier physically on the golfer to actually help them play better at the end of the round, when it usually matters the most.

Amen. Everyone is easily offended. There are winners and losers in life. It's just the way it is. These kids had a monumental achievement. It could never happen again. They shook hands and went off to be with their team. Next we'll be telling the Super Bowl or Stanley Cup Champs they can't celebrate after winning because someone's feelings might get hurt.

I think the celebrations are great. The Women's NCAA tourney has been phenomenal to watch that last two years.

A little in line with the OP, did anyone see when Oregon made it into the match play on Monday? The were waiting for a player from ASU I think to finish her last hole. If she made birdie they would go to a playoff, if not they are in. When she missed the green and failed to chip in they kept it cool and gave it a little time before celebrating. I think it showed an incredible amount of class and maturity, as they would have been celebrating the miss of another player immediately as it happened.

No problem with push carts but I have actually seen something stating the opposite. It said carts make you walk in an unnatural position generally leaned forward more than normal which actually puts undo stress on your back.

my sense would be that it's taking the bag off and picking it back up again repeatedly that would effect the wear and tear over the course of a round or rounds. I will say that I don't see the college players using them here when they are practicing (or when the women's team players will occasionally tolerate playing with a hacker like me), but I'd guess that's the issue.

Yes you are wrong. In the 1999 Ryder cup the US players and wives ran onto the green cheering and yelling after Justin Leonard made the winning putt and they are professionals.

There is difference for me between hitting a big shot (holing out from bunker) to win and spontaneous celebration and celebrating when someone else fails. Oregon did it right in there situation and I can't fault UW for boisterous celebration.

However that was widely criticized, and rightly so, as very unprofessional and poor sportsmanship. Primarily because JMO still had a putt.

I think a big celebration at the end of a big event is great. However, I think it should take place after due respect is given to your opponent and it should be off the green. Once the handshake is completed - just run off the green and swan dive into your teammates!!!

Having said that, I have coached young teams and when they get overcome by emotion, there is little to keep them from acting on it.

The Stanford men's team started using them after research showed that physically, pushing a cart is much better for a golfer than carrying a golf bag. Other teams seem to be catching on.
