Too many things swimming through my brain and that's just the stuff that needs to be dealt with in the next week as I have a home inspection scheduled as well as needing to firm up with a mover and obtaining insurance coverage for the new place. I guess you just work away at it a bit at a time ticking off the various boxes as jobs are completed. At least it's not my first rodeo.

>

> Just to add more moving parts to the equation, next Tuesday is orientation day at the golf course for employees. It's the usual WHIMIS training along with what I'll call the gamut of acceptable versus unacceptable behaviors with respect to interpersonal relationships and interactions. Should be pretty much common sense although my bridge colleagues commented this past week that the type of flirtateous exchanges that used to take place in the workforce and were commonplace are not only now frowned upon, but grounds for sexual harasment. I always figured that these sorts of things required two to play and if that's what they wanted to do then no harm no foul. However today, if a third party sees this happening and doesn't like it they will likely report it even though it didn't involve them directly.

That’s the new way Sco, Intolerance to any views other than your own.

Ok, brain freeze on my short pitch shots the other night in the league. (I do a lot of research, usually after the fact) So I retaught myself about my club handle, or better yet, shaft position in relation to my bounce. I was way ahead of the ball position pretty much not letting the bounce do the work, this video reminded me of that. Hopefully it may help someone else out as well...

Old Reason is a very scruitinizing viewer of golf videos. It's simply in my nature to ask if we are or aren't being shown something that leaves very highly key bits of information unsaid, or worse said in a misleading way.

Not to worry! Won't pick this vid (or the others) to shreds. Not by any means. But there is a little addendum of my own I'd like to put WITH this video if I may. It's something that may ease minds and free us up a bit when executing.

A fear we all have is "blading" it. In the old days of balata balls we remember the phrase "I put a smile on that one" anytime we put a fuller swing on it and that leading edge broke through the cover as she squirted out low. And so it goes with pitch shots and today's' ball. We often tend to move the ball back in the stance and swing the clubhead down steeply into it so as to avoid skulking a bullet across the green due to hitting it thin. And, when we stand the shaft up more vertically at address and/or open the clubface up in the grip, we KNOW that leading edge just rose up closer to the ball's equator. As such, we can fear what this video suggests may lead to a thinned bullet that rockets way to low and hard.

The helpful hint I wanted to serve up is that while it's true, a leading edge driven right into or very near the equator of the ball will skull it, THERE'S A LOT OF ROOM FROM THE VERY BOTTOM OF THE BALL AND THE EQUATOR WHERE THAT WON'T HAPPEN.

You can literally hear it when the more vertical shaft, therefore more activated bounce, slightly raised leading edge hit the ball anywhere between say halfway down fro the equator to the bottom of the ball. Sounds like a chopstick being snapped inside a wrapped towel. Almost a 'click' to it.

It doesn't have to be perfect, down to the exact dimple on the ball. Yes, you are in fact blading it, but it's happening down just far enough for the ball to lift and launch properly.

Now, use a wedge with 12 degrees of bounce - with the face opened up - sitting on the tightest lie on a hot dry day... OK, then yea you risk squirting that one low and 50 yards. But so often (my opinion), that bounce "can" be your friend. There's way more margin of error than most realize.

LMAO - We hear folks say they practice pitch shots, even flop shots, on a wooden deck. In fact I believe our buddy Stu does it. Well, there's a couple of way to make it happen and one of them is to go ahead and accept you ARE blading it. You're simply blading it down below the equator enough to snap that chop stick without forward shaft lean.

Two more things. One golf relate and one personal.

For me (as Fella says YMMV), my pitching and chipping starts to gel when two things happen, and they happen in this order:

- I visualize and start to eventually get a certain TRAJECTORY.

- Then based on that I next begin to land he ball reasonably close to whatever spot I want that trajectory to fly it to.

What I'm saying is, until I put in the reps to have a good feel for how high or low I can expect a given wedge and swing will give me, I have ZERO hope of where or how it's going to land and roll-out. In short, no expectation for trajectory, no hope. Even a chip with a 7 iron has some sort of flight to it.

Now beyond that, it's (for me at least) all pure trial and error in getting that anticipated trajectory. Open stance, square, open club, square, weight here, there, choke-down, and all colors of the rainbow until I see a consistent trajectory.

And now you guys know why wedges are viewed in my book as convincing ladies of the night. They all promise me they're the best! ?

Oh, and the personal note -- My mom fell yesterday afternoon in some restaurant two states away and broke her hip. So I'll be a lot more off than on starting soon. Wish I could rant more about swings but I got to hit the road soon. I'm pretty close to all she has left family-wise. So far it's sounding like she broke it badly and with her 90th year approaching.... well you guys can fill in the blanks. Thanks for today's nice little distraction, tho. Old Reason needed it this time more than ever.

Will catch up as time allows. Keep my seat warm, and help Scotee count down the days. Be good to yourselves and each other!

Oh Reasy I'm sorry to hear about your Mom, I hope she gets the best care possible and is not in too much pain. Will be praying for her recovery and best wishes to her, I hope she does well in the time ahead, and that those who are medically taking care of her give her the best of the best attention and care possible.

With birthdays we now have a breakfast on the weekend before or after the day depending which is the closest, so today is my birthday breakfast. This is me blowing out the candle on the cake (a dish of pancakes surrounded by fruit) on the table a plate of bacon, a dish of fruit, strawberries, blueberries, blackberries and raspberries, a dish of crumbed crispy bacon with maple syrup, chilli flakes and plenty of black pepper freshly ground, and the ever present. Costco maple syrup, one of the best you can buy. Went down well with a large coffee and I am now unable to do much for an hour due to an expanded waist line.

The telescope has a motor that allows you to set it and follow stars etc as they go across the sky.

One exception to that rule ( ain't there always?) A Chow Chow has straight back legs. I had one that lived to the ripe old age of 16 and that is also part of their description in the AKC specs FWIW

Had a telescope for awhile that we would look through on the road when we

were at high elevation where the air was clear and there was no light pollution.

Once in awhile we could identify Saturn or Jupiter. Watched a comet in the

night skies over Kansas. Of course, looking at stars and galaxies leads to

contemplation of just how vast it is out there; really beyond comprehension.

I married a hoarder...

42 bundles of wrapping paper later, not to mention all the accompanying gift bags and ribbon and bows and I had a very colourful fire going out in the burn pit. Well, it wasn't that great of a fire as it was more of a smolder than a fire what with all the soaking wet yard waste that i've been waiting to burn... I did manage to pretty much ruin my suede winter boots slogging through the muck going to and from the house. Should have broke out the Wellingtons, but they don't slip on and off nearly as easily...

I will never move again. They can drag me out in the meat wagon! I guess she figured that I hadn't done much all winter so she could work my like a pack mule... And I get to do it all over again tomorrow!

Welcome to my world, we have had 9 full moves during our married life, plus 4 where our stuff was in storage untill we were ready for a permanent move when we rented a furnished house short term, that’s one every 3.4 years, so it’s no wonder we are good at it, beeen in this one coming up to six years and we are never moving again. Looked up in the diary last week and we had 150 boxes of varying sizes for our last move. Another big problem is getting rid of all the boxes and packing after the move. We have now started donating surplus goods and chattels to local charities rather than store it for later.

Take it easy Sco.

AS you can imagine, I am sore at this point. Woke up, went to the loo and after a few stretches I was reaching for the Voltaren. Not to be surprised by all this as this is my first sustained lifting work since probably last October. I was hoping for golf this week, but that's going to be out once this job is finished today. I'll probably need three days to recover.

This is our third move I guess. The first two were pretty straight forward as we didn't have a whole lot of stuff, but this time is like cleaning out one of those commercial storage lockers. When my mom died we should have thrown out (or sold) everything. To hell with the sentimental crap when it sits in a cubbyhole for over 20 years with the only visitors being mice! I guess I'm just as guilty of hoarding as my wife...
