41st in the world, qualifies for the most elite events in the world and he's average joe. I think you may be blinded by the same 8 or do names you see all of the time on coverage and in commercials because only in crazy 350 yard 7 iron golfers land is he average

 

That's the point. Everyone on the course today is very very good. Some are above average, some are below. But a 3 time winner among those out there is an average (US OPEN qualifier) joe.

 

Obviously it's quite subjective, but to me the top 25 are above average, the 26 - 100 are average joes and above that are below average PGA Tour Joes.

I guess Mcilroy was an average Joe at Congressional in 2011 with only 1 professional win at the time.

Having been around similar environments that sounds about right. After watching the sappy GC fluff piece on the Swat and comparing it to elite surfing I had no doubt it would be exactly as I expected. Do they get me wrong, I've been invited to play the course a few times (never worked out because if schedule ) and would jump on the opportunity if my game were in shape (it's not currently thanks to barely playing this year) but I would go in with my eyes wide open and mouth shut lol.

What's with the tornado warning sirens

 

Sounds like the sirens we have in my hometown. More of a tradition than to serve a useful purpose. It used to notify volunteer first responders of and accident or fire.

 

It has become a symbol of our community and is kept in working order for no other reason.

These greens are f***ing stupid. I understand the idea of punishing bad shots more than a regular tournament, but when great shots get penalized because of the asinine greens something needs to change.

The notion that "good shots" are punished is miguided. Watching on TV, where contours are not easily seen probably leads to this idea. A good shot is not where the ball lands, it's where it ends up. If you land it in the right spot with the right trajectory/spin, you're putting for birdie. If the ball lands next to the hole and spins off the green, it wasn't a good shot.

Kokrak hit a 320 yard drive that rolled 1/3 of the way onto the green then rolled back off. bullxxxx.

Has nobody finished that hole? LOL. Sounds like a false front. Perhaps if it had rolled a bit farther it would have been a great shot. The green on a driveable par 4 is going to be designed with only a small area that will accept the ball - the vast majority of drives that touch the green don't stay on. Risk and reward, with a fine line between success and failure.

Maybe Carn finds Koepka's talent largely untapped. Everyone has commented that Spieth has a lot of maturity for his age, so his mental game is one of his strengths. Doesn't mean Brooks could find his rhythm and put up a season like Spieth's. Not an "absurd" concept IMO.

 

Some of you guys get awfully defensive about a bunch of strangers. I dunno, maybe Jordan's your cousin or something !?!

 

If someone's talent is "untapped," by definition they can not be "the best."
