I just got mine delivered today. Hooray, I can't wait till I get my hands on this baby.

one question. from the previous thread, I see many options to move the weights. Can you guys kindly advise the difference you experience in terms of spin, ball trajectory and distance between placing blue weights on the center and heel (draw) & toe (fade)?

I have not hit mine with my flightscope hooked up yet, but at the range there is a clear ball flight difference with the different weight settings. I tried the "forgiving" setting that many have success with (one in draw one in fade) but everything was pushing right. In the center channel I get a straight bullet or a tiny fade and with one in the back and one in the draw it gives a nice draw pattern. My miss is typically a over-draw/hook so its nice to be able to fade it.

Think you just have to play with it to find what works best for you. I tried the “wide” setting and was too low spin for me. Currently have both weights in the Center channel, positions 1 and 3.

^Well said! After numerous range and rounds testing various settings one thing that’s consistent for me as that I get the most distance with the weights in the 2-3 center channel positions. Toe Heal are close but the driver just feels the best in my hands this way. Also love the adjustable sole plate set between open and neutral (almost right in the middle of those two settings when setting the face behind the ball at address.

what was the issue with "too low" spin? was the trajectory too low?

Just got my JDM MP Black Leather Head Covers to top off the Vader look with my re-finished heads. Quality on these covers is 100% better than the stock JPX covers, and I love the black on black.

The “too low spin” was my interpretation of what I felt/saw so might not be that at all. The ball just didn’t carry at all so I assumed spin was too low.

Contrary to tmag marketing, too low of spin can be a problem. Unless you have lots of speed not enough spin means the ball will fall out of the air and you actually start losing distance

I have both weights in the center, slots 1 & 2 I think. I finally started swinging decent again today (been way over swinging with the driver since I got it a few weeks back). Played 9 this morning and missed 1 fairway and it was just off a few yards. I'm really liking the flight of this driver. I have it set to 9.5*, neutral on the sole plate and, again. weights in the center slot. I don't have access to a launch monitor so I've just been messing with it on the course.

what was the trajectory like? is your SS 100+?

I have no idea what my ss is. I have the 661 stiff shaft in mine. I play stiff shafts in my irons too...nothing crazy. I think the last time I hit balls where my ss was measured (had to be 7 years ago) my 6 iron or 7 iron ss was 84 if I remember correctly. The trajectory is good, it gets nice and high but doesn't balloon. It also seems to stay in the air for a long time. It's always windy where I live so I don't want it too high - so far its been good. Good luck with yours.

The pro at my home club seems to think that Mizuno has a replacement lined up for the JPX 900 driver that will be ready for release sometime in December...

ST-180 and GT-180 models are already well known to be coming.

ST = successor of JPX EZ

Personally, I do not agree with new model name.

RockBottom has them on their website with the following description:

Built for raw power and launch - the ST180 driver is a real game changer. Designed to rip it, not having an infinite track allows us to push even more mass lower and forward into the head for super low spins. Combined with the SP700 Titanium face, the Shockwave Sole produces raw power and explosive ball speeds. Simply put, it was engineered to go fast and long.

It doesnt sound like the successor to JPX EZ

Of course, it does not. IMO, since JPX EZ had disappeared from Mizuno website for months and very simple screw on sole, I can only think of one model.

The ST180 driver will be for the player who prefers minimum adjustability(hosel only) and the GT180 driver will be for the player who enjoys max adjustments. I understand the shape will be a little different on the two.

Now where have I heard such an Epic idea before?

  • 2 weeks later...

Finally I got to play it yesterday.

I set the center weight at 2 & 3 next to each other and the trajectory weight between neutral and fade. 10.5 degree.

It felt good. straight & long. Compared to Nike Vapor Fly, so much steadier and more stable perhaps due to heavier shaft (EvoII 661). I liked mid/high trajectory.

I have a set of these, driver 3 wood and 5 wood all with the stiff stock speeder shafts. They're great clubs, super straight, just not the distance I'm looking for. Will probably be posting them in the BTS section soon. All mint right out of the wrapper if anyone is interested.

Hit them up against my M2 and the dispersion was leagues better.

I got to play again Saturday and today.

My new aggressive swing (like Sung Hyun Park or Justin Thomas) and JPX 900 driver go along like BFFs. I can totally smack it without hooking or slicing. Like someone said, the dispersion is completely in different league of its own.

I simply love it. The best investment ever.
