Golf WRX Ryder Cup?

Has it ever been done. You guys across the pond pick a state, golf course, make a team from WRXers then play us European wrxers? Then two years time you come to us? Same format etc.

I think it's a great idea, but could be tough to implement. In particular, how do you pick who plays?*

 

*If I were in charge, my selection criteria would be who has the biggest gap between actual driving distance and "bragged about it on GolfWRX" driving distance. The bigger the difference, the better. Obviously.

Acutally this isn't bad idea. Do a year long thing and keep a scoreboard on the home page. Have 12-20 for each side, go at it ea couple weekend for the prize. Do it at different locations every two years across Europe or USA.

 

You hold a raffle of who gets to play and then pair up the 12 man teams based off handicap.

What if both sides did something like the US am and have qualifiers all over the country and then have one big match play tourney at the end where the top 12 make it on the team. You could have qualifiers on the off year of Ryder cups. So guys know almost a year ahead of time to really try and perfect their game.

There have got to be some travel agents on here. Work out a travel deal alternating years - US and then Euro. First 15 to pay go or something like that.

 

The travel agent works out all of the details included in the fees. (Airfare, hotels, transfers, some meals, and of course the golf)

 

And GolfWrx holds a drawing to pick the "home squad" - and they pay the same less the airfare and transfers.

 

This spring a bunch of friends of mine and I are getting together for 4 days of epic golf. Each year it is held somewhere new. This time around it will be at Reunion Resort. The fees include all of the golf, range balls, rooms, some meals, and some gift bags from the course. It started with 8 guys traveling with each other and now there are 24. The logistics are interesting but it is "doable". All it takes is someone with a little know-how and it could work.

I say we make it happen. Heck, come to MN and play Hazeltine! It's a fun course. They played the Cup in fair-er conditions than when I played it this summer. Could go play Whistling straits before the 2020 cup as well, and that's a public course, albeit quite expensive.

 

I do think WRX members should get together more often, regardless of the format or whatever, in general. The drunken arguments after the round would be quite funny as well: "NO! The Rogue max tip diameter is .351 after proper prep! Not .354!" lol

I don't think you would get that many people involved as trips over the pond are quite pricey. So that would be a limitating factor for sure.

 

Also you don't have to play it every 2 years, nor have only 1 cup every time.

 

If the number of registration explodes you can have ryder cups by handicap level : let's say 0-5, 5-10, 10-15 handicaps, and give 1 to 5 stroke to the higher handicap depending on the difference.

I live fairly close to The Belfry and I have a spare room at the moment that you could fit a few sleeping bags in. Also my game is such that I'd easily replicate Westwood's points tally from this years matches.
