You have to wonder the thinking behind playing Torrey and then flying across the world to play Dubai. For coming back from back surgery it seems you would want to ease back into it.

2 million reasons

plain dumb call. you have hundreds of millions yet you choose not to fly saturday after missing the cut to pocket your appearance fee but potentially stuff up your next month or so.

Maybe this week no so good for Taylormade

I wonder how water tight that contract is.

Wonder why either side took this on, is Tiger still chasing money .and TM hoping to cash in on an aging golfer .

I'm sure it has a lot to do with Adidas wanting Tiger to buy a large portion of TM.

Steinbergs story could be true. As a person who has spasms occasionally I can tell you it makes you feel like he looked playing yesterday. The so called back experts here kill me. You can tell most have never had a back issue and don't know what they are talking about.

Really strange that he would chase an appearance fee on the other side of the planet. Even with his divorce/recent poor play, he's got to have a quarter of a BILLION dollars in the bank. Why risk it? Why not just go play Phoenix, try to have fun/stay healthy? Really odd choice.

Tiger needs to see Dr. John Sarno. The best back doctor in the world. The one who knows that the substantial majority of back pain is caused by mental problems, rather than physiological problems. Look him up and read about him - google Howard Stern John Sarno. But Tiger won't ever admit that side of himself, so it's really a pointless suggestion.

This is all just smoke and mirrors. I've never seen more manufactured (read: fake) hobbling around in all my life. He looks like he should be playing professional soccer out there. Just calling it like I see it, and what I see is a guy who is embarrassed to be shooting 75+ when he used to be unbeatable. He's looking for a more graceful exit than "I just lost my edge." It's understandable, but a real shame that our generation lost the person who was very clearly the best player to have ever touched a golf club because he refused to come to grips with his issues. So I guess in that sense, Jack will always be #1. He held it together for his entire career, and in golf where your career spans darn near 3 decades, that's not an easy thing to do. Tiger gave us the best 12 years of golf ever played, but regardless of when he officially hangs it up, his career ended on Thanksgiving of 2009.

This is the least surprising withdrawal in the history of competitive golf. Who among us would want to play in 40 MPH winds with a stiff back and everyone in the world watching? Beyond the physical discomfort, he ran the risk of shooting 90 and leaving behind video that would haunt him the rest of his life.

Sorry to see it, but no point getting nutty about it - it's his back, not mine. He very well could have felt fine until Thursday, and whether spasm or something else had a problem. Not surprising. Nobody really knows what he is feeling or the cause. Wait and see. How anyone could be angry or have an attitude about his WD is beyond me.

Why the title change.? There are other players still, right?

Nope, no tournament without Tiger. :taunt:

I can see what Tiger is trying to do...play at courses he's had past success at. But I agree with you that he really doesn't have any business flying to Euro tour events coming off his injury. Just stay stateside and work your way back.

I also understand why Tiger WD. He was +5, not feeling good, and the weather sucks.

I'm starting to get the feeling that we're entering Freddie Couples territory here with Tiger with regards to simply scheduling tournaments and then hoping the back holds up to play them.

It is truly fascinating to me that he continues to say he isn't in pain. Anybody who watched him play the 1st round in Dubai could clearly see that he wasn't moving well and was walking excruciating slow at times.

Why continue to lie about what is really going on?

I would not be surprised to see Tiger retire before the end of this season. He just can't get any momentum and at some point he's going to have to accept his fate.

I agree. But put yourself in his shoes. If he admits any pain the media will pounce. He would have double the cameras in his face and more ignorant questions than you could shake a stick at. It's a loose loose at this point. Vultures circling hoping for failure so their pitiful jobs are made easier reporting the "news".

Everyone on here is speculating what is wrong with Tiger ...... only time will tell if his agent is lying or not !

Well if there's anything agents are known for, it's truthfulness. So I'm sure it's all just as he says it is.

Annie: Are we sure we want to bring this Nicklaus on board?

McCormack: Arnie, Arnie - he's fat and everybody loves you, he'll kill his back swinging that hard, flash in the pan, no way he's any endorsement competition for you (winks) - I'm the one taking all the risk here.

Whose responsible for his return playing schedule? Steiny? Some real intelligent scheduling. Brilliant plan: lets play 5 weeks in a row.

1. 1st Torrey Pines: wet, damp, chilly, penal rough.

2. Dubai: 17 hour flight

Looks like he should have waited until the East Coast swing. Logistically it works for him (he lives there). Temps are warm and humid. Better for a tight back than cold and wet.

Hard to believe Steiny saying it's just back spasms when Steiny also said that Tiger didn't have any pain during the round yesterday. Just can't admit the truth.
