TIGER WITHDRAWN DESERT CLASSIC

Recommended Posts

He will golf until he doesn't golf anymore, plain and simple. No reveling in his demise, cause that's just sad in it's own right. He's been huge for the game and the reason half of the young players on tour have a club in their hands right now. If these are indeed his last few times teeing it up professionally, let him do it on his own terms and without judgment. It took years to get to a championship level, I just hope he can play long enough to get his game there, and if not, so be it....

He's not hurt. Spasm excuse was a cop out for not wanting to play in terrible conditions, with no chance to make the cut and only embarrass himself.

Why the media is acting like he's really hurt is a head scratcher. Hopefully Brandel rakes his Word not allowed over the coals for this pathetic display of sportsmanship to his fellow competitors. This clown show needs to quit flying from event to event if he's not going to take the event seriously.

Tiger looked hurt from the first tee shot. You think he was faking injury from the first tee?

Yes....i think he often over exaggerates and this is coming from a huge Tiger fan perspective. I think he hit a crappy shot and acted like the back caused it. He had no problem unleashing the driver a few holes later when he violently smashed it and had a quick recoil.

That's what I was thinking. He sort of looked stiff. If you are stiff on the first tee you have to start questioning your warm up procedure, and I'm sure Tiger doesn't have a problem there.

I'm hoping he can play in LA. He needs as a much tournament as possible.

If you think about it, it is best for golf if he doesn't play anymore. Now we can get a fair view of all the players on tour not just Tiger Woods. There are some great up-and-coming young players who I would rather see than Tiger Woods.

It's not best for golf for Tiger to go out this way. Pretty much everyone wanted one more run from Tiger. The Tour, the media, Tour players, equipment manufacturers, fans, and TV executives all wanted one last Tiger run.

Anybody here old enough to remember Willie Mays? Johnny Unitas?

I totally respect your opinion but it TW retires do you think that the 297th ranked guy will get more TV time? Nothing much will change except fewer tickets sold and lower TV ratings at certain tour stops. The idea that TW is holding golf back somehow is crazy talk.....in my humble opinion.

I really wasn't talking about the 297th ranked person, although he might actually get some airtime if Tiger wasn't dominating the airtime. I was talking more in reference to the weekend's top 10 to 20 golfers on any particular PGA TV event.

for the sake of making money you may be right, but there are a great number of fans who have had enough of his failed attempts to come back and he is making a joke out of himself and the PGA. His body will not let him compete at or near the level he was, period.

I guess everyone loves a good train wreck. I have never been much of a TW fan. He just never had much personality in the interviews and the way he interacted with the fans. I don't wish any ill will on the guy, in fact I feel sorry for him. It is amazing to me how fame and fortune can wack out someone so badly.

Seriously, retire and take your 800 million dollars and enjoy your two beautiful children. Jump in the booth and announce the majors. Just by staying involved in golf he would keep his status and relevance. I worry about what he will do to his long term health.

I just don't understand why he commands so much air time. I get he is the greatest golfer ever...in my eyes the second. I personally could care less about the drama. It has been going on since 2009 and I think everyone knows that he is done and has been for some time.

Why then as golfers would we rather watch a golfer who is ranked some 600+ in the world who's play is in line with that ranking? Show me more coverage of all these great young players we have on the tour. I would rather follow Henrik Stenson on Live coverage all round than watch Tiger bogey all the time.

Show me all of the shots from the 16th green from the Waste Management on Morning Drive rather than have hours of experts calling in to discuss back spasms.

If I wanted drama I would watch BRAVO tv with my wife.

I agree with everything you said except that "Tiger was the greatest golfer ever". Bobby Jones, Jack and Arnie were better!

clfergus thinks TW is the second

Only one from your list can possibly be better (playing golf) than TW, but of course, everyone's entitled to their opinion

If Tiger wasn't hurting Thursday, then he has a job in holly wood waiting when he wants it. He is one of the greatest of all time and likely would have been the GOAT but had the need to change his swing 4 times.

Glad to see this topic in the cooler. Tiger haters need to chill out and think about what it would mean for the tour if Tiger never played EVER again. It would do a lot of harm to the future of the game. I feel sad for the game overall since 2008. Something has been missing on tour since.

We could watch good golf and the future of the game? Yeah that would suck.

Everybody wants to speculate that he can't do this or can't do that anymore, he won't be the Tiger he used to be, he has this issue or that issue, etc. Absolutely no one knows what is going on besides TW, whether it be psychological, physical or him just flat out not wanting to play on any given day. Why people come into forums toting opinions on the state of his game and why he's done, is beyond me. Pretty small of anyone to gain pleasure from his failure, and that's honestly what most of it comes down to. Like it or not, despising all that he is won't change what he has done or what he has still has left to do. He must have stepped on a lot of golf fans' toes through his early domination that now, in his struggles, those same people want to slam/defame him. Root for your favorite players not for the failure of any one individual....

If Tiger Woods wouldn't have played golf, most of the courses you are playing today would be farms, or orchards. Everyone wishing he would retire or saying he is done, how many PGA Events and majors have you won? It doesn't really matter if he WD, he will still have more fans, and media than the winner of either events this week. Set your clubs down for 15 months and then try to go play competitive golf. Give the man some time, and read what he said about his swing.

Then by that logic the game of golf was doomed the moment Tiger arrived, time waits for no one. This moment of Tiger not able to play competitively or deciding to retire was inevitable. However, the game will march on as it always has done through every age where a great one captured the eyes of the masses, those who would never care for the game, let alone watch it, without a star shining bright.

Lol, I don't see that as a "cute comment", I see it as an absolute obvious response to a silly question. What is it you want us to think about? The tour calling it quits and it would be the end of professional golf once Tiger retires? Sure Tiger will be missed, but there's still tons of fantastic golf being played today for us who like to follow it. I'd much rather he hang up his hat sooner then later. Retain some dignity and let us TV watchers follow the best players out there.

Come on....

The people who don't like Tiger like having a chance to complain about him. As evidenced by this thread.

Tiger is going to be the main attraction no matter where he plays. He's polarizing, both fans and haters need to get used to that.
