On the back 9 with a 2 shot lead, Lexi Thompson is notified that she was being penalized 4 SHOTS for what they claim was an incorrect replacement of her ball on a green the day before!Puts her 2 shots behind 3 other players with 6 holes to play.

 

Detected by a T V viewer who studied slow motion video of the day before. No advantage was gained in the marking, the ball was a couple of millimeters to the side!

 

Several things wrong with this - outside viewer, the day before,today's round was nearly over, no advantage gained by the player, obviously not intentional!

 

ABSOLUTELY RIDICULOUS RULING ON A PAR WITH A PREVIOUS LPGA U S OPEN, MAJOR CHAMPIONSHIP RULING TAKING A MAJOR CHAMPIONSHIP AWAY FROM ANOTHER PLAYER.

 

I will never attend another LPGA tournament.

 

They are being governed by people with 2 digits I Qs.

 

They are about to steal a major championship from a 22 year old American player, who happens to also be the highest ranking American player in the world!

What guts! The kid just birdied the next hole to get back into a tie for the lead! She really has a 4 shot lead now!

The mark was off for sure, but my goodness...here we are in another major with a ridiculous rules situation that may effect the outcome.

 

It was not that clear. There were shadows and her fingers behind the ball.

 

Oh, I agree, man. If we are going to get really technical, no one EVER replaces the ball EXACTLY where it was marked. It will always be a millimeter to the side, 100th of a mm in front, etc. This is crazy. It effected the putt in NO WAY. Total BS.

Viewers need to let the players and tour officials call the penalties-the fact that a day has passed and she is assessed the additional 2 strokes for signing an incorrect scorecard is absurd, as well.

Would we ever see a viewer send in an email to MLB and show footage on a pitch that was a strike when it was called a ball and have the call reversed.

Ok now what if this happened on Sunday... Lexi wins, someone calls/emails on Monday, do we reverse the result and redo the entire winning ceremony? What happens than, or do they ignore it because the event is over.. this is absurd in all sorts of ways.
