I thought it was great. They did a great job with Arnie's documentary as well, but this one was better I thought.

I read an article about Jack in Golf magazine in the 80s when I was a junior. I'll never forget reading him shooting 69 at Scioto when he was 13. That's 69 on a US Open championship course. Unreal.

Great tribute.

The old footage was great.

His rotation through the ball was flat [£€%^+£€ awesome.

Every 40-someodd aged player at my home club (those that grew up in the Jack era) bought those Response putters after the 86 Masters. Ugly blade.

Jack had the same personal clubmaker from 1962-2010.... that's pretty cool.

Not sure how many Response putters MacGregor sold after the 86 Masters but it was a LOT..........I know I still have one...... :)

I've got one too! Actually putted quite well with it for a while.

He may be the greatest golfer of all time, but he is not well-liked among the staff at either Scioto or Muirfield Village. When you can't relate to the 'littles', it says something about your essential character, I don't care how much you've won.

You mean like the little kids he's raised millions for and helped?

Former Superintendent at Muirfield a fan. http://www.superintendentmagazine.com/the-latest/around-the-industry/paul-latshaw-exceeds-expectations-muirfield-village-golf-club/

He rarely went to Scioto after he turned pro, so there wasn't "staff" to even interact with for decades (guess you were a busboy there in the 60s, lol). Good article, and not surprising, about his relationship with the club and how it changed over the years. http://www.travelandleisure.com/articles/golf-welcome-back-jack

I'm sure there are some anonymous staff somewhere that don't like someone/anyone for whatever real or imagined reason and are happy to relate third or fourth hand "issues" to friends who then can relate them to anonymous internet posters who think that such nonsense is worth a damn. Prove it up or go home.

Solid family man, virtually universal respect in and out of golf after being in the public eye for almost 60 years - better than most.

And yes, he doesn't suffer fools - look out!

Just found this article from about 10 years ago. Really, really good - a lot of insight into Jack and some good stuff I'd never read anywhere else.

Enjoy.

Great read...thanks for posting this!

BTW, Punta Espada in Cap Cana in the Dominican Republic is spectacular!

Did anyone else get the sense that we had seen the second half of part 3 before? I feel like I saw it a couple years ago. Especially the part about the Response putter, etc. Was Part 3 a retread of a previous documentary?

Actually some parts of all, but especially the third were used in a shorter piece previously aired.

Jack isnt well-liked at Muirfield Village? If you have heard that, I assume examples were given.

Are you willing to provide some of those examples? Thanks in advance.

431 with a persimmon head and wound ball? You kidding me? It still amazes me at how good he was.

He admittedly bet on golf. Keep him out of the HOF?

Nah let him into the HOF. I don't see the problem of guys doing stuff like this. Does Phil deserve to not be in the HOF? No, Phil and Jack need to be in the HOF

He bet on himself to win. There's no problem with that. Every player should do that, actually.

"How confident are you in yourself? Well, put your money where your mouth is."

We'd see competitive levels rise even more. :)

Holy cow, those greens were slow and receptive at ANGC in his day! And putting with the pin in, no less!

Google the "stymie" and Bobby Jones video. Then you'll really see something.

EDIT: This will give you some idea

Cool video, thanks. It reminds me a lot of Jack's early major footage. Can you imagine how much easier it was to get up and down on greens like that?

It wasnt though at all. there were no square grooves or 2/3 piece balls or lob wedges. Highest loft back then was usually 54*...

considering there wasn't the depth of coverage compared to todays endless videos of golf history, it was remarkable to look at the classic footage of Jack and other legends of the game

It is a must see for any fan of golf

Ive said it in other threads but if golf channel played one of those old majors every night id be all over it.

I'd take a wound ball and a v-groove 54* wedge if you let me chip/pitch into those greens any day over getting up and down on a modern course. I'm not new to the game.

Either way, it was a great watch.

Searching for clues after the, for an un-americano, incomprehensible thread start.

So there was a documentary on Golf Channel on Jack Nicklaus that was seeworthy? Hope it comes to the Viasat Channel over here. Any Scandinavians here who knows?

Yes there was and it wasn't boring. ;-) Hank, the thread start was clear and perfectly American - we assume the whole world is watching what we are watching - have you not seen television the last 20 years?

RBImGuy is probably already ranting about Jack's swing and how he is coming down for a $300,000 lesson, so you might PM him - I'm sure Jack has called him, Tiger and Rory did!
