What's with Johnny Miller? Did he have to say the course was set up REALLY easy. A 62 is a 62.

Was he wrong?

If you compare green conditions are todays not better than 40 years ago?

Im the last person in the world to defend Miller but a 62 is not a 62 as you suggest in your anger about what he said. There are various things that make scores unique.

Thst being said , what a fantastic round.

You're right about one thing. A 62 in a major is so unique no one had done it until today.

True enough but conditions ARE important. The trees and bushes are barely moving and the greens are like dartboards. And -8 still isn't the best to par in a major.

And while, of course, nobody else is likely to shoot 62 today I think the scoring today will be historically great.

Spieth wins. Course is beyond easy thanks to yesterday's testy weather. He's gonna tear it up. I say he ends the day at at least -12.

We shall see. I'm rooting for him but he needs to keep his driver in the fairway.

Why? The way the rough is playing, having a preferable angle might be more of an advantage than the fairway on some holes.

When ever you get no wind and soft greens on a links course it's going to be taken apart

This is correct. You can't set up a Open course like a US Open. If the wind picked up the course would be unplayable. The Open is so much about the weather. Good weather will always mean goodnscores on almost any of the courses in the rota.

The greens will always be slower and the rough is what it is that year. If it rains then it will play softer.

Jordan can make a bunch of pars from the rough but birdies are still hard. Pot bunkers will cause bogeys however.

Remember 99?? They set it up like a us open and I was in truth unplayable when the weather came in.....just enjoy the good golf

Ummmmm, the wind was 20 MPH with gusts to 30 and 40 MPH all day yesterday - not to mention the rain off and on most of the day.

Jeez. Scores of 62, 64, and 65 in a major. It's like they moved round three to Erin Hills. I'm sure Johnny Miller could've shot a 58 in these conditions. Just ask him.

I agree with all of this; however you can still do certain things to make the course play tougher and closer to major championship standards... more difficult hole locations, max out the distance, shave the greens a little tighter than usual, make them put a Johnny Miller 2 iron in the bag, etc.

I think his point was that a US Open type set up would be unplayable in those conditions.

I come to this thread for the moment by moment "this guy is out of it" "this tournament is over" posts and I am not disappointed.

2 shot lead is nothing here and I wouldnt be surprised if it changed hands a few times by eod tmrw.

Spieths poor tee shots havent hurt him yet but lets see.

1. Stop being reasonable

2. -1 like for no Vanilla Ice reference in your post.

Correct. That's why you don't set it up like a US Open with greens speeds. My point exactly

Early in hand photos of the new GT2 models t the truck.  As soon as they show up on the range in player's bags we'll get some better from the top photos and hopefully some comparison photos against the last model.
